Rick Rosenfield is the co-founder of California Pizza Kitchen, the $1 billion restaurant brand he built with his law partner, Larry Flax, after the two left careers as federal prosecutors to open a single pizza restaurant in Beverly Hills in 1985. Funded with second mortgages and $300,000 from friends, that one location grew into a public company with more than 265 restaurants and roughly $1 billion in annual revenue. In 2011, they sold CPK to Golden Gate Capital for approximately $470 million. Credited with pioneering California-style pizza, Rosenfield chronicled the journey in The California Pizza Kitchen Story and continues to invest in and advise new restaurant concepts through his venture firm.
