Sudden but Inevitable

The crew is celebrating Ricky D's birthday this week the only way we know how; with a single season television show! This is the first installment in a yearly series (yes, yearly) covering one of Ricky's favorite shows ever in Freaks and Geeks. The Cap'n and Josh reminisce about their high school days with Ricky D, and take some time to appreciate the small amount of growth they've all achieved since then. Minute, even.
Join us next week for the beginning of Season 4, covering Death Note!

The end of another season of Sudden but Inevitable has arrived on this, our 50th episode. To help us get through all the emotional drain caused by this, our friend Philip Krogmeier, our resident Bebop Superfan, has returned to helps us process our feelings. Josh takes a moment to read some new words from a friendly review, and Ricky D struggles mightily against the whims of a housecat, all while the near perfect adaptation that has been Cowboy Bebop comes to a close. Don't forget to check out our seasons covering the original Cowboy Bebop, Firefly, and our bonus season sharing some of our favorite movies.

This week brings a special treat and first time guests Chris and Leslie of Measuring the Score! Their expertise as a composer and musician respectively make them two of the most appropriate possible guests we could have for Cowboy Bebop of any kind, and this week we're applying our not-so-critical lens to episode 9, Blue Crow Waltz. Is this pure flashback enough to draw in a new pair of fans? Is the music as amazing as we all think it is? Is smoking cool?

Let's all take a trip to Earthland this week, as Legacy Podcaster and friend of the show Shawn from Cheapseat Reviews joins us to discuss the eighth episode of the live-action Cowboy Bebop remix, Sad Clown A-Go-Go! With no recent experience with the original series, how does Shawn feel about the glorious, demented mix of genre tropes and ultra-noir imagery of this episode? How does Josh feel about Denethor's digestive proclivities in comparison to the Eunuch's? How does Ricky D feel about Ein getting left behind? All this and more can be found in this week's just-barely-under-2-hour-episode of Sudden but Inevitable!

This week's discussion of Galileo Hustle just wouldn't feel right without Cameron Harrison of Green Shirt - A Newbie's Trek through TNG here to compare it to the anime source material with us! He also brought along the hottest take yet this season, and forced us to ask the question; is this series better than the original? Next, Josh and Ricky D plant themselves firmly in the child-free camp for some reason, while Cam and the Cap'n have a big announcement to share! Is there any pain that mommies can't heal?

Watch the trailer for Frank and Zed, an all-puppet horror film that Cameron helped create!

The crew takes a crack at Binary Two-Step with the help of long-time supporter and first-time podcast guest Cali D! Is the relationship between Mel the Mechanic and Faye the healthiest across either version of Bebop? Did Ricky D notice anything else about this episode? Is Josh subtly encroaching upon Ricky D's brand? Does your brain feel itchy yet? If you enjoy very cute things, consider a purchase from Cali D's Adorabubbles store! The crew is joined by one of the hosts of Bebop Tabletop, Andrew, to discuss Darkside Tango! The not quite so sudden, but definitely inevitable betrayal of Jet by his former partner provides the sepia-soaked backdrop for our discussion on adaptation, a topic that Andrew is well-versed in. Josh and Ricky D stand back and let the fireworks fly this week, before doubling down on their love for Faye. If you'd like to help #SaveCowboyBebop, you can sign the petition!

This week the crew is joined by yet another member of the Green Shirt podcast, and this time it's the undisputed Alpha of the show, Producer John T. Bolds! While John may be a Federation veteran, when it comes to Bebop he is brand spankin' new, and the live-action show is his introduction to the property! Josh and Ricky D realize that perhaps they've been allowing the Cap'n to color their lenses thick with scarlet paint, will John T. Bolds be able to scrape those lenses clean? And is Daniella Pineda's Faye Valentine the best thing about this series? If you'd like to help #SaveCowboyBebop, you can sign the petition!

This week our crew is finally introduced to the live-action counterpart of our favorite space-corgi, Ein! Long-time supporter Steve joins the crew to discuss our furry friend's introduction, as well as our favorite hand-to-hand fight of the series yet. Josh has some big podcast news, while Ricky finds himself agreeing with our first ever negative review. If you'd like to help #SaveCowboyBebop, you can sign the petition!

Our crew welcomes the return of Cowboy Bebop Superfan Phil K, and the discussion is nearly immediately threatened by an unruly live chat! Fortunately, Josh and Ricky D are able to keep things mostly contained while Phil and the Cap'n get down to sharing some love for this week's episode, Venus Pop!
