Sudden but Inevitable

Season 3 of SBI is here! Our Cap'n laments the near-immediate cancelation of 2021's live-action Cowboy Bebop, and the human buoys that are Josh and Ricky D keep him afloat by insisting upon equally near-immediate coverage of the series! Joining our humble little friendship for the premiere of season 3 is returning spacefriend Robert from Science Fiction Remnant, who previously introduced us to the very cool space western movie Space Sweepers! If you'd like to help #SaveCowboyBebop, you can sign the petition!

Our final episode of 2021 is here, and shucks howdy is it a doozy! This week, we are joined by the amazing Meg of Bed, Wed, or Behead to discuss the 2001 classic Donnie Darko. This is Meg's first time seeing the movie, and Ricky D has been waiting to mansplain this movie to someone for years! Josh provides the variance against our baseline this week, but in a way that is truly fitting for both this movie, and this year.
We've also got some special appearances by Measuring the Score and It's a Fandom Thing Pod!
Thank you for a warm and wonderful welcome to the world of podcasting, we can't wait to see you in 2022!

In this second bonus episode of the week, the crew sits down together to watch Logan's Run, a 1976 science fiction gem that Josh suggested, but this time with Ricky D! Josh shares what makes this movie so special to him, while Ricky D wonders what makes this movie so special to Josh. Meanwhile, the Cap'n is having a good ol' time imagining a new society built from the combined ashes of the ones in the film, complete with its own musical culture and societal goals! The bonus episodes may be close to winding down, but our crew sure ain't!

This week we've got two bonus episodes! Our friend Marcy (formerly of Green Shirt) stops by to help us get ready for the 1976 classic that is Logan's Run! She breaks down what makes this movie so watchable, and helps get us geared up to discuss this absolute acid trip of a movie in our weekly livestream, while Josh and the Cap'n reminisce about all the suggestions the Cap'n has taken in the past...or not taken.

This week's SBI Bonus Episode comes to us courtesy of longtime friend of the show, Cameron Harrison of Green Shirt - A Newbie's Trek Through the Next Generation. He's here to introduce our Cap'n and Ricky D to James Gunn's 2006 directorial debut, Slither. Buried under all those slugs and meat is the triumphant return of our good friend and trusty pilot Josh! Dive into this parasitic parade of a proper genre-mash that clearly lays the groundwork for Gunn as a master of tone. Of course, that's all before we even take the Nathan Fillion of it all into consideration!

In this very special SBI bonus episode, the crew gets together just before the premiere of Netflix's live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation to watch the first two episodes and discuss their immediate reactions. This episode contains plenty of spoilers, so be sure to watch both episodes before jumping in. Unless, of course, you need some convincing as to the temperature of these here jazzy space-waters, in which case go ahead and listen right now. Did Netflix finally get one of these things right? Do our two newest Bebop fans like what they are seeing? WHERE IS RADICAL EDWARD?

This week we continue our series of Bonus Episodes with a brand-new classic, the 2021 Netflix original film Space Sweepers! In yet another milestone for SBI, this is a property that our Cap'n has never seen before! That means we'll need the guidance of our latest guest, Robert from Science Fiction Remnant, to find our way in the neon-drenched, sonically magnificent live-action ode to the spirits of both Firefly and Cowboy Bebop. Even our resident grumpy fish Ricky D liked it, and you can take that to the space bank! Consider this your (well, our) introduction to the world of Korean pop-culture!

Let the SBI Bonus Episodes begin! We are kicking things off this week in style with the 1986 classic film, Highlander! Ricky D has never seen it before, nor has Shawn of CheapSeat Reviews! Luckily, our captain has, and friend of the show SineCera stops by to help explain to the neophytes the glory that is Highlander. This may be our most contentious episode yet, so get ready to pick sides and draw lines in the immortal, sword-wielding sand!

This week, the crew is joined by Cameron of Green Shirt and Cowboy Bebop superfan Phil to discuss the visual ecstasy that is the Cowboy Bebop movie. Ricky D slides into the producer seat for this discussion, which Cameron then breaks wide open partway through with the suggestion that the entire movie may be a dream! We also make some big announcements concerning seasons 3 and 4 of SBI that you're definitely going to want to hear! Join us for the SBI Season 2 Finale, won't you?

The crew is joined once more by Cowboy Bebop superfan Phil to discuss the series finale, The Real Folk Blues! Josh and Ricky D come to terms with the ending of their first anime series, while they estimate their likelihood of a rewatch. Kylie and the Cap'n get lost reminiscing about other series that drew them into the medium in the first place. This ain't quite our final Bebop of the season, either, so stay tuned - and get ready for Season 3!
