Sudden but Inevitable

This week, the Captain is back in midseason form, and just in time as Heavy Metal Queen starts out swingin'! Kylie has some fun facts ready to go straight away this time around, and by Waltz for Venus our pal Ricky D's guilty conscience is really starting to weigh on him! And finally, Josh cannot remember the name of single named thing in either of these episodes - but he does remember all the names of people he wishes to thank for their support this week, as well as the wonderful listeners who rated and reviewed our show in the month of May.

This week, the crew is joined by Cowboy Bebop superfan Phil to discuss Spike's "first" encounter with Vicious, as well as the harmonica-wielding maniac lost in time! The Captain has some engine troubles, but Kylie fills in masterfully. Ricky D has so many questions, but is absolutely enthralled, while Josh is still buried deep in the music.

The crew is introduced to Faye Valentine, and we discuss the way her character is shot in contrast to some of the others. Ricky D drops a truth bomb on everyone, and then leaves the room when he finds our video gaming proclivities are not up to his standards. Kylie educates us a little further regarding the show's music, and Josh tells the tale of one of his greatest accomplishments in the world of pranks!

Part 2 of our discussion (not a new trend, just a one-time necessity) features Josh and Ricky D's reactions to some of those, y'know, anime tropes. The crew also gives their selections for Shot of the Show and Kylie introduces Spiegel Spiel. Finally, we ask for help finding a new name for our biggest superfans! Can we cure our newcomers' Asteroid Blues, or are we about to see this Stray Dog Strut right out the door on anime?

The Sudden but Inevitable crew is back and we're watching Cowboy Bebop! Josh and Ricky D from Bestflix with Ricky D have never seen the show, and they're even a little resistant to anime as a whole!

Part 1 of our discussion (not a new trend, just a one-time necessity) features Josh and Ricky D's initial reactions to the world of anime, and we spend some time discussing the tropes of the space western subgenre. Keep your ears peeled for Part 2 later this week!

This week, we took the final cinematic plunge into the Firefly 'verse with a viewing of the movie, Serenity.

Josh and Kylie talk us through their emotions, wishes, and laments at the culmination of the series, and what it feels like to be at the end of their first-ever Firefly viewing experience.

The crew lets all their love for the show and our fans flow, and we can't wait to see you next season for the Sudden but Inevitable Rebop!

Special thanks this week to Josh for editing the show, I couldn't have asked for a better First Officer, my friend.

Did you know there will be more opportunities next season to become a Shepherd of Shine? There will be a new, thematically appropriate name to be handed out  and the Captain's got an itchy handin' hand!

This week we are joined by none other than the Hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne himself, Adam Baldwin! Through our wonderful Shepherd Suzi, we were connected directly with our favorite non-Baldwin Baldwin who graciously spoke with us about his experiences on set, the connections between the cast and fans, and weighed in on some of our more pressing questions about Jayne like, "is he dumb?" or, "is he a generous lover?"

We also discussed convention life, improvised moments, and the possibility of a Firefly reboot in animated form! We want to thank every one of you who has ever listened or watched or downloaded or supported us in any way - this interview, like Firefly itself, belongs to the Browncoats.

In this extra-large by necessity episode, the crew gathers in the galley to discuss the series finale of Firefly, Objects in Space. Josh realizes that he doesn't want the story to be over, and is finally brought all the way up to speed on the difference between Serenity, the pilot episode and Serenity, the movie. Kylie jumps into the Twitter waters in preparation for Season 2 of Sudden but Inevitable, and puts her finger on the worst thing Jubal Early does in this episode. And finally, fresh off his appearance on Cheapseat Reviews, Ricky D talks about feet a little bit!

This week we had planned to cover the Firefly series finale, Objects in Space, but Josh and Kylie had a sudden kitty emergency! Don't worry, the fur babies are safe, happy, and healthy now.

But without our Firefly newbs, we couldn't discuss the series finale, so instead we called our big sisters Meg and Carla from Bed, Wed, or Behead and played a live round of their eponymous game! Given the choices of Mal, Kaylee, and Simon, who would you bed, wed, or behead?

In this, our penultimate episode of Firefly (don't worry, we're gonna cover the movie too), David Black of Spatial Anomaly returns to discuss its successes and failures. Josh wonders if he could be in the room for a childbirth, while Kylie assures him he doesn't have to find out soon. Ricky D's shuttle gets an upgrade as well!

We'd also love to thank our friends and listeners for voting us "Pod of the Week" in It Goes Down in the PM's weekly contest!
