Fantasy Football Week 3 Start and Sit

Well, Week two was unlike anything I have ever seen in terms of injuries. If you managed to win your matchup last weak, congratulations. If you managed to come out of it remotely healthy go buy a lottery ticket. Seriously go, go right now run!

The San Francisco 49ers apparently sold their soul for a trip to the Super Bowl last season and it appears Beelzebub, has called in the marker. George Kittle missed Week 2 with a knee sprain, they placed Richard Sherman on IR before their game in New Jersey versus the New York Jets as well. During their week 2 contest they lost, QB Jimmy Garoppolo, RB’s Raheem Mostert, and Tevin Coleman, DE Nick Bosa, and Solomon Thomas. In addition Dee Ford was out with a neck injury and I haven’t even begun to address their WR situation.

The team arranged for an MRI truck to handle all these injures and it broke down, hell when they were heading to New York, The plane that was supposed take them there somehow someone crashed into it on the runway, and dented it, forcing a delay as they arranged for a new plane.

The team was very critical of the field conditions in the Meadowlands and their reward for enduring all this last week is a game, you guessed it in the Meadowlands once again, this time against the Giants.

In addition we had Saquon Barkley, and Courtland Sutton go down for the season, Christian McCaffrey for 4-6 weeks. Denver QB Drew Lock out a minimum of 3 weeks and likely 6, Devante Adams has a hamstring injury as does Julio Jones, and D.J. Chark a chest injury. There are injuries to key non skill position players as well like Washington’s Brandon Scherff, their best offensive linemen, and Miami CB Byron Jones. These injuries impact our starting lineups huge. Bonus start sit here fade Antonio Gibson and fire up Gardner Minshew, and as a result of Chark being ruled out, Keelan Cole as well.

So week two of the Listener League is complete and the marque matchup was Sully’s 2 Cents favorite duo, Blair Dickey and Josh Crab going head to head. Both we 1-0 coming in and Josh came out on top 181.31 to 147.88. I fell to 1-1. The League uses the same points structure as the Scott Fish Bowl and it very complex at the QB position. Points for completions, negative points for incompletions and sacks as well as the usual turnovers and so forth. I started Drew Lock and Daniel Jones and they combined to get me -5.9 points. I was somehow still in it but my buddy Cory Garbolinsky came out on top by 17 points on the strength of Alvin Kamara’s 38.4 Monday Night. Dis I mention that I drafted Saquon Barkley and Courtland Sutton there. Needless to say, I have some work to do.

The RotoHeat Guillotine League is thru two weeks and we are now down to 15 teams, thankfully I am one of them. It is such a fun league I highly recommend the Guillotine League for you all if you haven’t played in one. Alright enough about my fantasy leagues, nobody tuned into this to hear about my fantasy teams. If you did I was 20-6 in Week 1 and 16-10 in week 2.

Start Sit Week 2 Fantasy Football

Hello Heat Seekers, welcome to episode 103 of Sully’s 2 Cents Fantasy Football Podcast, I am you host Rob Sullivan. Sully’s 2 Cents Fantasy Football Podcast is a proud member of the RotoHeat family of podcasts.

Well, week one is in the books and I hope that you are all 1-0 to start the 2020 campaign. Two individuals that I know have started 1-0 in the Sully’s 2 Cents Listener League and they are long time Sully’s 2 cents fans Blair Dickey and Josh Crab. Both had convincing victories in week 1. Blair put up 175.38 points and Josh posted an impressive 174.5 points of his own. I am happy to say that I squeaked out a victory as well.

The RotoHeat Guillotine League is off and running and with each passing week a team is eliminated. It sure looked like it was going to be me for a while there, and in the end Kenyon Drake scored a TD and Tyler Higbee did just enough for me to escape elimination. I was the lowest scoring team that advanced. Sadly, for Blair Dickey it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows in week 1, as he was the eliminated member this week.

Today we are talking start sit for week two. As I mentioned last week, I won’t be telling you to start Christian McCaffrey and sit Lynn Bowden Jr., those are no brainer decisions. I will be sharing with you all two to start and two to sit at four skilled positions that I feel are real-life decisions that you may have to make.

Last week I told you to trust your draft and start the guys you drafted early. That message remains. Do not overreact to one week. That is all week one was, one of 16 weeks in your fantasy schedule. The odds that you were going 16-0 are beyond slim. Treat last week like any other week. If you had a bad week 7 you likely wouldn’t over react and blow up your roster so don’t do that here.

I had some hits and misses last week. Starting Big Ben was a good call, sitting Arron Rodgers was not. At running back listing James Conner as a start didn’t work out as he was injured yet again, but sitting Le’Veon Bell was the right decision. I nailed Calvin Ridley as a start and was off on listing Hollywood Brown a sit. My TE calls last week terrible. Darren Waller and Hayden Hurst were my starts they were TE16 and TE20, and my sits Jared Cook and Austin Hooper were TE10 and TE32, so I suppose sitting Hooper was a good call.

Alright, let’s get into week 2 we kick it off at the quarterback position.

Josh Allen – Buffalo Bills Sully’s Rank: QB5

I have been hard on Josh Allen. He is ranked outside my top-12 in my season long rankings and that is already looking like a mistake. Allen had a great start to the season, scoring 28.2 fantasy points in a win over the Jets. This week he gets the Dolphins, who allowed 25.7 points to Cam Newton, in their season opener. Allen has owned Miami during his career too, scoring 21.3 points or more in all four meetings. That includes three games with over 28 points and one with 40.5 points. In my opinion Allen is a must start in this week.

100 Random Thoughts on Fantasy Football and life

Well here we are, episode 100 of Sully’s 2 Cents Fantasy Football podcast. 

I started Sully’s 2 cents Dynasty Fantasy football Podcast in the Spring of last year.  When I started it, I had no idea where it would take me.  To be truthful 100 episodes in, I still don’t.  I am just thankful that I have a platform to do this and that I have people like you who take the time to listen. 

Solo podcasting isn’t the easiest thing in the world and it is light years more demanding than having guests, having to carry the entire show is much more demanding than I originally anticipated. I am not sure if anyone realizes but all of my 100 podcasts have been scripted.  I write them all and the average 30-minute podcast is approx. 4000-6000 words.  I do my best not to come across as someone who is reading, and I can say quite confidently that I have come a long way in the 99 episodes leading up to this one. 

I started to think that I should plan something for my 100th a few weeks back, and honestly nothing came to mind.  I had some suggestions and although 100 guests would be cool, I figured that type of episode from someone who has yet to have 1 guest was a little far fetched.  Then the top 100 list was suggested.  I figured why not, that sounds like fun and I started into it.  I got about 14 thoughts into my script and thought good god this is going to be a disaster and who knows maybe it still will be, but without further ado, here are my 100 Random thoughts on Fantasy Football and life

100. I spend far too much time on fantasy football.  With that said, I wouldn’t have it any other way, this is a labour of love!

99. Aaron Donald is the type of football player that makes me want to join an IDP league even though I know absolutely nothing about IDP.  Thankfully, there is the IDP Heat Seekers live stream each Monday night over on the RotoHeat YouTube Channel hosted by the one and only Brad Menendez.

98. All fantasy Football leagues should be PPR leagues.

97. Fantasy Football should be about scoring points and limiting points in a .5 PPR league or a standard league scoring is just silly IMO.

96. All fantasy leagues should be Super-flex leagues.  The QB value in a 1QB is embarrassing and I should not feel comfortable with anyone of 28 guys stating for me at the position on a week to week basis.

95. Did you know there were 40 QBs in 2019 that had at least one top 12 fantasy week?  Think about how crazy that is in a 32-team league.

94. I joined my first fantasy football league in 2007.  My first-round pick was Tom Brady.  Brady finished 398/578 for 4806 yards and 50 TD passes that season.  He was the QB1, 82 points better that Tony Romo. I didn’t win that league and I would have to say I have come a long way as a fantasy football manager, quarterbacks are no longer my first round selections. Side note I do not remember Tony Romo ever having a QB2 overall season.

93. My favorite team growing up as a kid was the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The TE position over the past three seasons has had considerable movement in and out of the top 12. Since the start of the 2017 season, there have been 24 different TE’s that have posted a top 12 season–3 have done it all three years, 6, twice, and the remaining 15 only once. Since 2010 it has taken, on average, 146.30 PPR points to have a top 12 TE season, and since 2017 it’s dropped to take 133.1.

2019 was the highest of the past three seasons, as 136 points was the price of admission into the top 12. 8.5 PPR points a game is all it takes. Don’t reach for a TE in your drafts. If you miss on one of the big 3 or 4, it’s time to wait as there is value in the later rounds. The TE position is also a very stream-able position as well.

16. Blake Jarwin – Dallas Cowboys (Previously 19th)

Blake Jarwin signed a new four-year contract. The deal has a base value of $22 million and includes $9.25 million guaranteed. Combine the contract with the departure of Jason Witten and it adds up to opportunity for the 4th year TE. Jarwin can’t block a lick and I am banking on the Cowboys investing in him as target for Dak Prescott in this offense. If Witten at 37 can produce a top-12 season, I like the chances of Jarwin to breakout. As a result he jumps up to 16 in my Updated 2020 Redraft Tight End Rankings.

15. Dallas Goedert – Philadelphia Eagles (Previously 15th)

Dallas Goedert finished 2019 as the TE10, so having him at 15 in my Updated 2020 Redraft Tight End Rankings at first glance may seem somewhat short-sighted. Goedert remains the second TE in Philadelphia behind TE Zach Ertz, and because of this Goedert’s upside is limited. Still, he’s shown flashes of elite ability himself in his first two seasons. If you believe in his talent enough to overcome low target numbers, you can get Goedert late in drafts, but beware of a low floor every week.

14. Rob Gronkowski – Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Previously 9th)

Tom Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason and decided he wanted to have his old buddy join him.

I started this series with the Quarterbacks and stated that of all the positions to rank, Quarterback remains the most difficult. If given enough time, I can make a compelling argument for 20-23 of the leagues starting quarterbacks to be top 12 fantasy options. In part two of this series I ranked the Running Backs. I pointed out that it has been a volatile position over the last few seasons, as we have seen plenty of movement within RB rankings and end of season numbers.

In part three I discuss the Wide Receivers. This position without fail is deep. Plucking twelve of them off the list is rather easy at the top, and gets dramatically more difficult from seven on down. Being ranked as a WR13 or WR15 simply means there are 12 or 14 I like more. Those ranked in that slot are still extremely talented and a WR that you want on your rosters in 2020.

16. Robert Woods – Los Angeles Rams (Previously 17th)

Robert Woods has posted back-to-back 130-plus target seasons with consecutive top-16 finishes in PPR. In my opinion, he’s a no doubt No. 2 fantasy receiver. He’s had 15-plus PPR points in half of his games over the past two seasons, creating some good consistency.

The Rams offense has been among the most aggressive passing the ball since Sean McVay took over, and Woods should continue to see plenty of work. In 2019, Woods posted his second consecutive season over 1,100 yards and set a career high with 90 receptions. Woods remarkably didn’t score a touchdown until Week 12 and ended the season with only two. If Woods can experience some positive touchdown regression he has top-12 WR upside and may very well be too low in my updated 2020 Redraft Wide Receiver Rankings.

15. Cooper Kupp – Los Angeles Rams (Previously 14th)

In his past 24 games, Cooper Kupp has 16 touchdowns and 13 games with 17-plus PPR points. He’s also had six or more targets in 18 of those 24 games. In addition, Kupp finished in the top 10 among receivers in red-zone targets and top five in targets inside the 10-yard line in 2019.

Since the start of the 2010 season, it has taken on average 219.02 PPR points to finish a season as a top 12 fantasy running back. There are a handful of elite running backs as we enter the 2020 season. It has been a volatile position over the last few seasons, and we have seen plenty of movement within RB rankings and end of season numbers.

While we are not in the bell cow running back days anymore, there are more names starting to get the rock at a steady rate. Predicting RB usage and productivity gets more and more difficult with each passing season.

16. Todd Gurley – Atlanta Falcons (Previously 15th)

Todd Gurley finished 2019 as RB14 with 219.4 PPR points in 15 games played. The 219.4 points were Gurley’s lowest in a season since 2016 when he scored 198.2 points in Jeff Fisher’s offense. In the Sean McVay era in Los Angeles, Gurley averaged 324.93 points a season.

Last season, the Rams attempted to limit Gurley’s workload in an attempt to limit the wear and tear on his arthritic knee. In the previous three seasons, Gurley averaged 329 touches a season and finished 2017 as RB1 and 2018 as RB3. In 2019, his touches dropped to 254, and his offense line went from being the best blocking unit in 2018 to 26th best in 2019. Gurley was released by the Rams and signed a 1 year $6 Million contract. He joins an offense in Atlanta that has a much better blocking line than what he had in LA a year ago and one that like LA, can move the ball and score points. Signing in Atlanta is a homecoming for the former Georgia star as well.

The problem with Gurley is not talent, but it is workload. Atlanta should give him all he can handle, and if he knee can tolerate it, this ranking will be way too low. Gurley slips slightly from 15 to 16 due to my slight concern about his health and my desire to move Aaron Jones up in in my updated 2020 Redraft Running Back rankings.

Of all the positions to rank, Quarterback remains the most difficult. I currently have 28 Quarterbacks ranked that I would be comfortable entering the season with as my QB1. If given enough time, I can make a compelling argument for 23 of them to have top 12 potential in 2020.

Lamar Jackson led all quarterbacks in fantasy points per game with 28.11. Tom Brady finished as QB12 with 271.68 points or 16.98 per game. In 2019, there were 22 quarterbacks that averaged 15.97 points per game or better. The position has never been deeper.

16. Jared Goff (Previous Rank – 19th)

When I first sat down and ranked my Quarterbacks in Redraft for the 2020 season, Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff came in at QB19. In this updated version, he moves up three spots to QB16. If the Rams’ run game stays on the skids and forces Jared Goff to keep chucking, he’ll go down as one of Fantasy’s best values. Goff led the NFL with 626 pass attempts in 2019 but was 24 Fantasy points shy of a top-12 finish, mainly because of four really bad games against really talented defenses (49ers, Bears, Steelers, Ravens). 

His play improved by the end of the year, averaging 43.2 attempts and 328.6 yards per game with multiple touchdowns in each. If you find yourself needing a Quarterback late on Draft Day, Goff is a name to target ahead of riskier picks like Ryan Tannehill, Philip Rivers, and Baker Mayfield.

15. Aaron Rodgers (Previous Rank – 7th)

Aaron Rodgers is the biggest faller in my updated rankings, falling all the way down to 15 from 7th. Rodgers had a down season in 2019 in terms of the standards he has set for himself. He finished last season with 4,002 passing yards, 26 touchdowns, and only 4 interceptions. Those numbers were good enough for a QB10 season.

Entering 2020, Aaron Rodgers will be motivated to prove that he is still an elite QB despite his organization’s decision to draft his replacement instead of needed reinforcements to the offense. My concern is that Rodgers doesn’t get the chance. The Packers are clearly a team that is going to focus on on the running game and Rodgers lacks the weapons to excel as a top 12 QB in 2020. As a result, I have Aaron Rodgers way lower than I ever imagined I would in my updated 2020 Redra...

The past two seasons, I have written an 8-part divisional series piece titled “Buy, Sell, Take the Flyer”.  As we approach the 2020 season, it’s time for the third annual installment of this series.

In these 8 articles, I utilized ADP (Average Draft Position) to identify two guys I am buying, two I’m selling, and a flyer off each team. Buying and selling have nothing to do with my opinion of the player and everything to do with my perceived value of the player vs. ADP. As for the flyer, these are gut feels on players deeper down in ADP that you are likely selecting in the late rounds of your drafts and in some cases, guys you will find on your league’s waiver wires.

Buffalo Bills

Two Players I Am Buying

Stefon Diggs – Overall ADP 63 WR27

After an offseason trade with Minnesota, Stefon Diggs is now the No. 1 WR in Buffalo. Diggs finished his final season in Minnesota as WR21. That was partially thanks to a very low target total (94).

Diggs now transitions into a run heavy Buffalo offense after a frustrating season in the Minnesota run heavy offense. He leaves an accurate QB in Kirk Cousins for the inaccurate QB, Josh Allen. The good news for Diggs is Allen is willing to throw down field more than Cousins. The increase in targets will make up for the accuracy of his QB that he forgoes. I am not overly high on Diggs in 2020, but I do feel that he will have the volume required to eclipse WR27.

John Brown – Overall ADP 119 WR46

After a down season in 2018 in Baltimore, John Brown had a bounce back 2019 finishing as WR20 in Buffalo. It appears that Brown has put the Sickle Cell anemia that dogged him the previous few seasons behind which is a positive.

With Stefon Diggs in town as the Bills’ top dog, it’s hard to project Brown living up to what he did last year. The good news is John Brown won’t cost you anything near where he finished last year, and he will surpass WR46 in 2020.

Two Players I Am Selling

Josh Allen – Overall ADP 90 QB 10

In his first two seasons, Josh Allen had a career completion percentage of 56.3%.  Never underestimate the power of a rushing quarterback in fantasy football.  In those same two seasons, Allen ran for a combined 1,141 yards and 17 touchdowns.  Josh Allen finished last season as the 6th highest scoring quarterback in fantasy.

I expect some regression in 2020, but I do believe that he will remain a top scoring fantasy quarterback. The addition of Stefon Diggs to the Bills improves the passing game, and the recent addition of Zach Moss to pair with Devin Singletary improves the running game.  I see Allen throwing for more yards and running less as a result of these additions. Round 7 is still early to grab your Quarterback, and if you are hell-bent on making that selection at this stage of your draft then I am certain that you can grab a higher ranked QB.
