  • Acts Movement II: Week Five

Kailey Newkirk // At some point in our lives, we all ask: Did I do enough? Did I do enough good to offset the bad? Am I good enough? The answer is found in Jesus’ grace and mercy—his life of love, his death, and his resurrection. And we can’t earn his grace. His free gift of grace may seem unfair. Shouldn’t we have to prove we’re worthy of that gift? The only thing you need to do is have faith in Jesus. His death and resurrection is enough to save you, to make you good enough for God. What Jesus did was enough! It’s not what you do, it’s what God did. And it’s not because you’re good, it’s because he’s good. When we have faith in Jesus Christ, there will be evidence in our lives.

  • Acts Movement II: Week Four

Kailey Newkirk // Gratitude is important. It’s part of a healthy mindset, and it will multiply the gifts you see and reveal the gifts you didn’t even know you had. It will strengthen your connection to the giver of these gifts. But what or who is it you’re thanking? Is it power, beauty, money, or something else? Or is it God—the creator of our world, the author of our stories? What we thank is what we keep pursuing. And the pursuit of God and his character is the only pursuit that will give us life back when our gifts run out.

  • Acts Movement II: Week Three

Jim Keller // If we look long enough at our lives, the lives of others, or the world, it seems like there is always something making us ask, “Why?” Why do things go wrong? And it’s easy to expect answers from God, to want him to account for all that we see. As we continue looking back to the early church, we can see that God’s hand is always at work in the midst of things that are just going wrong. Though the challenges they faced as they learned how to be the Church we know today were many, we also see there is nothing that can thwart the will and purposes of God.

  • Acts Movement II: Week Two

Garry Abbott // In the Book of Acts, we see different expressions of the church in their earliest forms. We also see how these expressions looked surprising to those around them in their time. These expressions were often made up of people who were naturally divided in every way united in community by the grace of God. And the world took notice of this—the evidence of the grace of God. Those who turned to the Lord accepted the invitation to be part of God’s kingdom because of his grace and because they saw themselves in the community of people united by that same grace. And this grace is evident when the Church looks out to care for the needs of others even in the midst of disruption and uncertainty.

  • Acts Movement II: Week One

O.J. Aldrich // As we continue to move through the Book of Acts, we see the expansion of the early church. With this growth, the good news of Jesus and the gospel reaches more and more people, often people different from those who previously had chosen to follow Jesus. We see God break down barriers and make it clear that he invites everyone to have a relationship with him, to be saved by his grace through faith. No one is too far away. No one is outside his reach. No one is outside his grace. By looking at the early church, we can understand the need to see people with Jesus’ eyes. Let us learn from their example of how to live out God’s love with our words and actions.

  • Easter

Garry Abbott // Jesus changed the world through his life, death, and resurrection. For he so loved the world, he died that we may live. He unlocked eternity for us should we choose to follow him with our words and actions. This is what we hear every year on Easter. And it is freeingly good.

But hearing and understanding the weight of the story are two different things. Maybe we know all the plot points and can recount the way Jesus’ tomb was found empty, but do we fully realize what that means for our world today?

We need to remember that this miraculous, true story wasn’t just something that happened. We need to remember to listen to understand and not race ahead, stuck in our own conclusions. We need to remember to look at the truth of Jesus’ life to move forward. For he so loved the world, we may live our lives in hope.

We don’t have to miss out on who we’re meant to be.

  • Acts Movement I: Week Nine

Garry Abbott // Today is Palm Sunday—the day Jesus rode triumphantly into Jerusalem before he took on the cross. On this Palm Sunday, let’s look at the triumph of the gospel for all of us. We are reminded that God writes us into his story no matter where we are from, what we have done, or what has been done to us. But there are times, moments, when we won’t know what comes next, and we have to decide if we are going to trust our knowledge of God’s love. When faced with the choice of if we believe his goodness, provision, and direction are going to overcome our fear and uncertainty, will we allow what we know about God to move us through the unknown? Will we allow what we know about God to help us love others fully? Let us remember that Jesus came to earth for everyone and meets us right where we are—any message that states otherwise is not the gospel.

  • We Do Not Lose Heart

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." —2 Corinthians 4:16-18
