The beauty of God’s grace is that His love for us is constant. There is nothing that you can do or not do that will make God love you more or less than He does right now. His love for you is not conditional. God’s grace that came through the sacrifice of Christ, makes you inseparable from God’s love – your position with God is secure. Therefore, we need to learn new ways of following God’s Law that are not built on our human effort to earn God’s love.

If we were honest, we all have things in our life that we wish would stay dead, never to make an appearance again. In particular, the sins that hold us back in our faith, the sins I that we wish would die and never come back. Yet somehow, they get resurrected and find new life again. Scripture reveals something very interesting about our sin in the book of Romans as Paul teaches us how to relate to both law and grace.

In Romans, Paul teaches that we are righteous, not because of something we did, but because of God. Paul attacks our legalistic nature by declaring the believer righteous, apart from the law because we have the righteousness of God through Christ. Your righteousness comes from Christ.

We start a new series this week on Paul’s amazing letter to the Romans. We introduce the letter’s theme: The transformative power of the gospel. Paul starts with discussing our need for redemption, no matter how righteous we might see ourselves, and how we all start the same place: grace.

There were over 300 prophecies written about the coming Messiah outlined in the pages of the Old Testament. The prophecies about the Messiah detailed His family line, His birth, His ministry and His death. All written by different authors several hundred years before His birth. God didn’t want any confusion about who the Messiah would be, He didn’t want there to be a big mystery about His plan to rescue this hurting and broken world.

We start a new series this week, the Prophecies of Jesus’ Birth with a look at the Virgin Birth, foretold by Isaiah and discussed by Matthew. We’ll look at how God graciously “broke the rules” by choosing the unlikely and the misfit to keep his Son company in his childhood. We’ll also discuss Jesus’ stepfather Joseph, who served with quiet faithfulness and faded from view quickly.

What we will see from the returning exiles is a desire to recommit themselves to God. While in exile they’d drifted from God and drifted from faith. Israel had gotten away from their worship, they’d forgotten their traditions, they had forgotten about their faith. Now that the temple and the wall have been rebuilt, it is time to rebuild the people spiritually.

What we will discover in our text from Nehemiah today, is that it took everyone doing their part in order to rebuild the wall and see the work through to completion. They could not have rebuilt part of the wall and the rebuild was not something Nehemiah could have done alone; everyone was needed to do their part. The same is true of building God’s Kingdom, it takes all of us working together as we cooperate with the Holy Spirit to make it happen.

We’re starting a new series this morning about Nehemiah. Nehemiah emphasizes the importance of Israel’s covenant with God and the redemption from sin. What we will discover about Nehemiah is that he invites God to use him to save the city and ultimately the people of Israel. Nehemiah is praying for his return to help rebuild and that God’s favor would return to Israel. What if our heart broke for the lost like Nehemiah’s heart broke for Israel.
