    Two Takeaways:

    #1 I failed the test

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. 16 But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his immense patience as an example for those who would believe in him and receive eternal life. 1 Timothy 1:15-16

#2 I desperately need the grace of God
And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11

  • Who's Your Leader?
    Don't Miss This - Week 3 - 1/17/21

    WHO’S YOUR LEADER?

After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” -Mark 1:14-15 NIV

When we Repent Jesus invites us to change our lives in order to change our Direction.

If you want to change your mind

If you want to change your direction

If you want to change your life

You’ll have to change your king

If you want something to change this year, you need to be prepared to change your leader.

Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. -Romans 8:5 NIV

The thing that leads you determines where you go.

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. 17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions. -Galatians 5 16-17

Who or what leads you directs what you do

    My biggest struggle is__________________________?

23 May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
    -1 Thessalonians 5:23 NIV

15 Challenge: Prayer and fasting - we are going to feed the spirit through prayer and starve the body and soul through fasting.

22 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. -Galatians 5:22-23a NLT

  • The Dangers of Self-Righteousness
    Don’t Miss This: Week #2

    The Dangers of Self-Righteousness

Unfortunately, Christians are known more for their lectures than their love

    • Self-righteousness will sabotage our influence in the world.

    • There once was a man named Job who lived in the land of Uz. He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. He feared God and stayed away from evil. Job 1:1

One day the members of the heavenly court came to present themselves before the Lord, and the Accuser, Satan, came with them. 7 “Where have you come from?” the Lord asked Satan. Satan answered the Lord, “I have been patrolling the earth, watching everything that’s going on.” 8 Then the Lord asked Satan, “Have you noticed my servant Job? He is the finest man in all the earth. He is blameless—a man of complete integrity. He fears God and stays away from evil.” Job 1:6-8

He said, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be naked when I leave. The Lord gave me what I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!” 22 In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God. Job 1:21-22

When three of Job’s friends heard of the tragedy he had suffered, they got together and traveled from their homes to comfort and console him. Their names were Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. 12 When they saw Job from a distance, they scarcely recognized him. Wailing loudly, they tore their robes and threw dust into the air over their heads to show their grief.  13 Then they sat on the ground with him for seven days and nights. No one said a word to Job, for they saw that his suffering was too great for words. Job 2:11-13

At last Job spoke, and he cursed the day of his birth. 2 He said: 3 “Let the day of my birth be erased, and the night I was conceived. Job 3:1-3

      3 THINGS SELF-RIGHTEOUSNESS DOES:

      1.  Self-righteousness points a finger rather than lending a hand.

Doesn’t your reverence for God give you confidence? Doesn’t your life of integrity give you hope? 7 “Stop and think! Do the innocent die? When have the upright been destroyed? 8 My experience shows that those who plant trouble and cultivate evil will harvest the same. Job 4:6-8

But evil does not spring from the soil, and trouble does not sprout from the earth. 7 People are born for trouble as readily as sparks fly up from a fire. Job 5:6-7

      2.  Self-righteousness always lacks compassion

Your children must have sinned against him, so their punishment was well deserved. But if you pray to God and seek the favor of the Almighty, 6 and if you are pure and live with integrity, he will surely rise up and restore your happy home.  Job 8:4-6

      • Self-righteousness often causes us to completely misjudge somebody because they're not living up to our standards

      • 3.  Self-righteousness delights in false humility

God is powerful and dreadful. He enforces peace in the heavens. 3 Who is able to count his heavenly army? Doesn’t his light shine on all the earth? 4 How can a mortal be innocent before God? Can anyone born of a woman be pure? 5 God is more glorious than the moon; he shines brighter than the stars. 6 In comparison, people are maggots; we mortals are mere worms.”  Job 25:1-6

After the Lord had finished speaking to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite: “I am angry with you and your two friends, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has. 8 So take seven bulls and seven rams and go to my servant Job and offer a burnt offering for yourselves. My servant Job will pray for you, and I will accept his prayer on your behalf. I will not treat you as you deserve, for you have not spoken accurately about me, as my servant Job has.” 9 So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite did as the Lord commanded them, and the Lord accepted Job’s prayer.  Job 42:7-9

TWO HELPFUL PRAYERS FOR US ALL:

        1.  Jesus help me to see the self-righteousness in me

        • Self-righteousness will cripple the church

        • 2.  Jesus heal the hurt the self-righteous have inflicted on me

A Place Where Change Takes place and Purpose Comes Alive

          Matthew 14:13-21

Central exists to be a place where the un-churched and the de-churched love to attend.
13 When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. Matthew 14:13-14
When sick people ran after Jesus, He showed up

As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a remote place, and it’s already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food.” Matthew 14:15
We should want to see Jesus change someone’s heart more than we want to change their behavior

16 Jesus replied, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.” 17 “We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. 18 “Bring them here to me,” he said. Matthew 14:16-18

          Two Marks of a Disciple

          a. A disciple gives
          Knowledge doesn't equal spiritual maturity
          True knowledge translates to activity
And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. Matthew 14:19
          b. A disciple serves
We would see an incredible change in our world today if Christians would learn to actually serve the people they've habitually slandered

They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over. 21 The number of those who ate was about five thousand men, besides women and children. Matthew 14:20-21
Jesus will never turn you away

          Misfits in the Field

          Luke 2:8-20

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. Luke 2:8

          The Shepherds were messy

          The Shepherds were lonely

          The Shepherds were uncertain

9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told. Luke 2:9-20

          1.  Peace is a process that begins with Jesus

We can’t have true peace apart from Jesus

          2.  Grace is not something we achieve, it’s something we receive.

          Christmisfits Week #1

          All Alone with My Doubt

          Luke 1:26-38

Don't doubt in the darkness what God has declared in the light

In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, 27 to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.” 34 “How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” 35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Luke 1:26-35

Anytime you get the promise of God it's always going to take the power of God to make that promise come to fulfillment

Even Elizabeth your relative is going to have a child in her old age, and she who was said to be unable to conceive is in her sixth month. 37 For no word from God will ever fail.” 38 “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her. Luke 1:36-38

          Three Things Mary Dealt With:

          1.  Doubt

Self-doubt will sabotage the work that God wants to do in your life

          2.  Discouragement

          3.  Death

No word from God will ever fail and God always finishes what he starts

Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus  Philippians 1:6

          Armor Bearers - Week 5:  November 29, 2020

          Let’s Chat

          Matthew 4; Matthew 9; Luke 9; Mark 16; Mark 10; Philippians 3

          1.  I want you to take your next step

We can get wrapped up in spiritual activity and not experience any maturity

When we get immersed in activity apart from intimacy, it always produces pride and arrogance

As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 19 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 20 At once they left their nets and followed him.  Matthew 4:18-20

As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him. Matthew 9:9

He said to another man, “Follow me.” But he replied, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” 60 Jesus said to him, “Let the dead bury their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God. Luke 9:59-60

          2.  If you have fallen, I want you to get back up

For though the righteous fall seven times, they rise again… Proverbs 24:16

          3.  I want you to be a part of someone giving their life to Jesus.

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Mark 16:15

          4.  I want you to feel safe enough to be honest about where you are

You can’t get well until you admit you’re sick

Then they came to Jericho. As Jesus and his disciples, together with a large crowd, were leaving the city, a blind man, Bartimaeus (which means “son of Timaeus”), was sitting by the roadside begging. 47 When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” 48 Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Mark 10:46-48

People that make excuses never make an effort

Jesus stopped and said, “Call him.” So they called to the blind man, “Cheer up! On your feet! He’s calling you.” 50 Throwing his cloak aside, he jumped to his feet and came to Jesus. 51 “What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.” 52 “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.  Mark 10:49-52

We can’t get right with God until we’re willing to admit what’s wrong

          5. I want you to understand that I’m not perfect

Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.  Philippians 3:12

        • Contagious: Can I really live outside my bubble?
          Armor Bearers - Week 4:  November 22, 2020

          Contagious

Can I really live outside my bubble?

          Hebrews 10:19-25

          1. Don’t be hesitant to ENTER with CONFIDENCE (Hebrews 10:19-21)

Without the BLOOD there is no FORGIVENESS

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No  one comes to the Father except through me. ~ John 14:6

Your most powerful illustration of SALVATION is when your own personal EXPERIENCE with Jesus Christ has GENUINELY entered into forgiveness

“A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others.”  ~General Douglas MacArthur

          2. Being contagious in your FAITH, sets up opportunities that can change the trajectory of where you can go. ~Hebrews 10:22

FAITH and DRAWING NEAR to God are inseparable.

“Come near to God and he will draw near to you…” ~James 4:8

When you MOVE the marker it eliminates the EXCUSE of why someone else can’t do it.

          Matthew 1:14-21

You have to be OK to be UNCOMFORTABLE in sharing your faith.

          3. Hold tight to the confession of our HOPE.

          Hebrews 10:23

Contagious believers ENTRUST Jesus with their tomorrow.

The Lord’s message rang out from you not only in Macedonia and Achaia—your faith in God has become known everywhere. Therefore we do not need to say anything about it, 9 for they themselves report what kind of reception you gave us. They tell how you turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God, 10 and to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead—Jesus, who rescues us from the coming wrath. ~ 1 Thessalonians 1:8-10

          4. Your relationship with Christ becomes the LIGHT in someone else’s struggle. ~Hebrews 10:24-25

You need to take your EYES off yourself and THINK of others

But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. 14 We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end. ~Hebrews 3:13-14

Jesus is the KEY to a SUCCESSFUL RACE. And if we RUN AS HE INTENDED, we will BECOME CONTAGIOUS.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart. ~ Hebrews 12:1-3
