Taking a small detour away from horror this week to chat about the latest from one of the best directors in the world today. Guillermo Del Toro is of course no stranger to the horror crowd and his latest, Nightmare Alley, sees a noir style thriller that actually tackles some very dark themes with some brutal violence which is more than many horror films we cover actually do. We give our verdict on if horror fans should be checking this one out and why Del Toro just keeps getting better. Ending the show Mike gives his final verdict on the return of Dexter now that the show has ended once more and we go over some of the fun cameos from Scream that gets us even more excited to rewatch the film in the future.

We’ve already done 4 podcasts chatting about all the previous Scream films so it felt rude not to do this one. Of course we are here to chat about the biggest horror release of 2022 so far and the return of one of our all time favourite franchises in all of film. Scream (the fifth) looks to jel legacy with a new class and serve a mix of old and new while of course being as self referential as ever. Strap in because there is so much to unpack about this film that it’s pretty much all we’re talking about this week. We do briefly mention the first trailer for Ti West’s X which just got released but other than that it’s all about the return of Ghostface. We do throw up a massive spoiler alert deep into our chat so make sure you’ve seen the film before we get to that part!

Before one of the biggest releases of the year next week we are back to discuss another foreign language film that certainly has one of the more unique premises we’ve seen. The Advent Calendar gives us a Jumanji style horror with plenty of scares and an interesting story. Will this be on our holiday watch list later this year? Let’s find out. Also this week; the A Quiet Place spin off gets a new director. The first trailer for Ti West's X drops later this week. Mike gives his thoughts on the return of Dexter ahead of the finale. And finally we both give some fun predictions on what we think might happen in Scream when Ghostface returns to the big screen once again. Will any of the legacy cast survive? We’re back! After taking a much needed break for the holidays we kick off 2022 with an absolute banger. Titane has been making waves everywhere since it’s debut at Cannes and has finally made it’s way over to the UK. Julia Ducournau’s follow up to Raw looks to be just as unsettling and visceral as it’s predecessor and we can’t wait to talk all about it. After that we then preview all the horror films coming out this year including franchise favourites returning such as Hellrasier and Evil Dead; but more importantly some of our favourite directors such as Jordan Peele, Rob Zombie and Robert Eggers. And lastly we touch upon the fantastic return we had to The Matrix over the holidays.

This is it. Our annual year ender has arrived to celebrate the very best the horror genre had to offer us in 2021. After a fairly unassuming 2020 we certainly got plenty of heavy hitters delivering us some incredible films this year. We go over our top 10 horror films of the year and why these films mean so much to us. Next up; we give out our special awards highlighting other areas of horror this year such as Best TV Show and Best Death. And ending the show we go over some of our listener’s picks for what their favourite horror films of the year have been. Once again thanks to everyone for their continued support of the show as we head into our 7th year of doing this and we hope 2022 can once again be another landmark year for our favourite genre.

For our last cinema release of the year we have a pretty big one to discuss. Resident Evil is one of our favourite things across all media but sadly we’ve never had a film that remotely compares to the great heights of the many games over the years. However, with a director who clearly knows the source material and a pretty fun trailer; we really hoped we’d see Resident Evil done right on the big screen for the first time. Did it happen or is this another misfire? We give our hot take on this much debated film. Elsewhere this week; Chucky is officially coming back for another season and we couldn’t be happier. Nic Cage is playing Dracula. And Texas Chainsaw Massacre finds a new home at Netflix.

A comedy horror centred around the hell that is Black Friday is a perfect premise and with some added Bruce Campbell for good measure surely you can’t mess this up? Demonic sees the return of Neil Blomkamp in a much smaller project than we’re used to with this director with a concept that blends sci-fi and horror in a very Black Mirror-esque way. We give our verdict on one of the last films before we send off this year in style. Elsewhere this week; Last Night in Soho is coming to digital services earlier than expected which prompts us to look back on the year for cinema horror and see what’s been the biggest successes and failures at the box office in 2021. Whilst we’re not ready to fully move on from Last Night in Soho mentally just yet we must as the train keeps rolling on with yet another cinema horror release that actually came out the same day. Antlers has been one of the most heavily delayed genre releases of recent years and has finally hit the big screen and promises some original horror in the form of an emotionally driven creature feature. We dissect this, at times, intentionally depressing film and give our verdict on whether it was worth the long wait or not. Elsewhere this week, Stranger Things finally gets a release window of Summer 2022 and a final teaser. And ending the show we discuss season 3 of Creepshow that has now ended and where we feel the show can go from here.
