After such great heights last week of a brand new and incredible horror film at the cinema we are sadly back to the norm of finding the best on demand films to watch and next up is Choose or Die. We’ve actually wanted to see this one for a while after hearing about its cool premise of a retro video game come to life and hoped it would merge gaming and horror together like we so desperately want a film to pull off. Is this a worthy Netflix horror to stand alongside the Fear Street trilogy or another film on the service to avoid? Let’s find out. One of the biggest names returning to the big screen this year is Robert Eggers and he is back in a massive way with his new epic; The Northman. After The Lighthouse was our runaway winner for best film in 2020 we have been eagerly awaiting what one of the most unique minds in all of cinema has in store for us next. And boy was it worth the wait. This week is one of those very special weeks so strap in and enjoy the ride like we did. Continuing our ongoing Ranking Wes Craven series is another first time viewing for both of us in the form of The Serpent and the Rainbow. Perhaps the least talked about horror film in Wes Craven’s entire filmography; we discuss the strange and peculiar decisions made in this film as we approach the end of Craven’s 80’s films very soon. Also we of course add it to our overall ranking which now stands at a whopping 12 films. Fresh is shrouded in secrecy due to wanting to avoid spoilers (which we totally understand) but perhaps they’ve done too good of a job as this is one horror fans need to be aware of. Taking a quick break from new horror this week, we are however still discussing an incredibly dark and gritty film in the form of the latest appearance of The Batman. With a fantastic new lead actor and a super underrated director at the helm; we were very excited to see the most grim Gotham we’ve seen on the big screen so far. We give our verdict on the film and focus on the elements horror fans will enjoy such as a fantastic version of the riddler that would be more suited to a Saw film than a superhero one. Elsewhere this week; Fede Alvarez gets yet another new project that we hope actually happens. And Chucky comes to bluray in the UK very soon.

After already seeing the return of such horror icons as Ghostface, Chucky and Michael Myers in recent months, now is the time for old boy Leatherface to make his glorious return; to the small screen. Netflix are forcing the big guy to come out of retirement and fight his classic arch nemesis of Sally even though a man of his age should just be chilling by the fireplace at this point. This franchise has been pretty unwatchable for at least a couple of decades now so can this finally turn the tide? Let’s find out! Elsewhere this week; Stranger Things finally dates season 4 as well as a huge announcement about season 5. We should be getting A Quiet Place Part 3 but don’t expect it anytime soon. And we rant about not accepting mediocre video game adaptations based upon some of the best stories ever told in the medium.
