Jessinya Faye Ezell allegedly robbed a business on Dedeaux Road around 9:32 p.m. According to police, she was involved in a physical altercation with an employee before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money. While officers were still at the scene, Ezell returned to the business to ask about a cellphone she'd dropped during the robbery.

    A former Meridian Public School District employee is facing up to 20 years in prison for embezzlement. Special Agents from the State Auditor's Office arrested Candace Morris for allegedly embezzling funds that had been collected to perform drug screening and new employee background checks for the district. Morris was responsible for collecting these funds, primarily cash, and providing receipts to the individuals making those payments. She allegedly converted the money to her personal use.

Heatherly Weakley was charged with aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance, trafficking a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license under implied consent, no tag, and improper equipment. Sammie Davis Jr. was charged with aggravated trafficking of a controlled substance, trafficking a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance.

    Natchez police are looking for a suspect who is wanted for attempted murder. 19-year-old Phillip Stokes allegedly fired shots from a vehicle after midnight on Friday during a domestic dispute. Investigators say the victim was on the porch of a home on Lafayette Street when shots rang out. Willeshia Williams has been charged with accessory after the fact in connection with the drive-by shooting. Plus, state authorities are investigating the death of a detainee in DeSoto County. A 37-year-old female housed in a holding cell at the county’s adult detention facility suffered a critical medical emergency on Friday. Emergency medical personnel transported the as-yet-unidentified detainee to the nearest hospital, where she passed away.

    A judge has sided with a coast casino in a tidelands dispute with the Secretary of State. The chancery court judge ruled that The Grand's waterfront property is not state-owned due to the Spanish land grant. According to WLOX, the ruling is based on the state Supreme Court’s decision in State v. Aldrich, where the state’s highest court ruled that a 1784 Spanish land grant negated the Secretary of State’s claim to fee simple title. The Grand, which rebranded to Harrah's in 2014, paid about $700,000 into the tidelands fund last year.
