Friday’s game starts at 7:30 a.m., with Saturday’s at 2 p.m. and Sunday’s at 1 p.m. Plus, the Mississippi Mud Monsters began a new era of professional baseball in the Jackson metro area with a bang. On Thursday, the Frontier League club led a monstrous 13-2 win over the Florence Y’alls out of Kentucky in its debut at Trustmark Park.

  • New safety measures implemented at Oktibbeha County schools following two gun-related incidents
    New safety measures are being implemented for schools in the Starkville Oktibbeha School District, where they're investigating two firearm-related incidents. On Tuesday, staffers at Henderson Ward Stewart Elementary School found a gun in a student’s backpack. One day later, a fully loaded magazine clip was found on a student at Partnership Middle School. No one was harmed in either situation.

  • 2025 Egg Bowl scheduled for Black Friday / A Hinds County man is facing 30 years in prison for domestic assault
    For the second time in as many years, the annual Egg Bowl between Ole Miss and Mississippi State will take place on Black Friday.
    The 2025 edition of one of college football’s fiercest rivalries will kick off from Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville on Friday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. Plus, a Hinds County jury has found Kenny Wiggins guilty of domestic aggravated assault and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Wiggins fired a handgun at his girlfriend during a confrontation in August 2023. He's facing up to 30 years in prison.

  • Mississippi oystermen file lawsuit over reef leasing program
    More than 20 fishermen, led by the nonprofit Mississippi Commercial Fisheries United, are suing the state for its attempts to lease public oyster reefs in the Mississippi Sound. Ryan Bradley, Executive Director of the nonprofit, believes doing so would put fishermen out of business. The oyster industry is finally recovering from past openings of the Bonnet Carre Spillway that killed almost all the oysters on Mississippi’s most productive reefs in 2019.

  • Bond denied for former Mississippi Police Chief charged with murder
    Bond has been denied for a former Mississippi police chief who is now charged with capital murder after a preliminary hearing on Thursday. Deputies in Yazoo County responded to a call about a man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 9. As they investigated Timothy Byrd's death, they uncovered discrepancies in the story told by a male at the scene, as well as evidence that foul play was involved. Former Yazoo City Police Chief James Durwood Winstead was arrested for Byrd's murder on April 11.

  • Mississippi Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith is supporting a bill designed to increase access to mental health care
    According to the National Institute of Mental Health, more than one in five adults live with mental illness, and more than 75 percent of adults who needed substance use treatment in the past year did not receive it. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith has introduced a bill designed to increase access to care. The Mental Health Infrastructure Improvement Act would establish a new federal loan program to incentivize the construction or renovation of mental health or substance abuse treatment facilities. The measure places an emphasis on high-need, underserved, or rural areas, as well as pediatric- and adolescent-serving facilities.

  • Bond denied for man accused of killing Shondra May nearly 40 years ago
    Nearly 40 years after a Mississippi teenager was abducted and murdered, her alleged killer has been arrested. 63-year-old Rubin Weeks is accused of kidnapping, raping, and killing 17-year-old Shondra May in 1986.
