  • An execution date has been set for Mississippi's longest-serving death row inmate
An execution date was set for Mississippi's longest-serving death row inmate on Thursday. Richard Gerald Jordan kidnapped and murdered Edwina Marter, of Gulfport, in 1976. Jordan shot her in the DeSoto National Forest and threw the murder weapon into the Biloxi River. He tried to get $25,000 from Marter's husband, Charles, who contacted police. Two officers were watching when Jordan went to retrieve the money. A high-speed chase ensued, but Jordan was able to escape after forcing the officers' car off the road.
