    Local and state leaders gathered Tuesday for the groundbreaking of the SouthPoint Mississippi Industrial Park in Grenada County.
    The economic development is slated to have a $4 billion direct impact on the economy and be home to up to 2,500 jobs. Its construction along I-55 will allow access to major distribution routes serving Memphis and Jackson. The hope is

  • One suspect is in custody for a murder in Gulfport, and a second suspect is on the run
    One man is in custody, and police are searching for a second suspect in a murder in Gulfport on Monday. 23-year-old Paul Ravin Martin Jr., of Gulfport, is charged with one count of First-Degree Murder, one count of Shooting Into a Dwelling, and three counts of Aggravated Assault. Kevin Eugene James is wanted for 1st Degree Murder, Shooting Into a Dwelling, and three counts of Aggravated Assault. Martin and James allegedly traveled to the area of Holly Circle to confront individuals they'd had problems with, firing indiscriminately and striking several people before fleeing the scene. Three victims were injured, and 16-year-old Cobi Earnest was killed in the hail of gunfire.

  • Officials asking public to weigh in on environmental assessment of Okolona solar project
    The Tennessee Valley Authority is inviting the public to chime in on an environmental assessment offering two options regarding a major solar project planned to generate power in Chickasaw County.TVA has entered into a power purchase agreement with NextEra Energy Resources to purchase the power generated by the proposed Okolona solar project. The project is expected to produce up to 145 megawatts in capacity and would be constructed, maintained, and operated by the Florida-based renewable energy company.

  • Severe thunderstorms are expected in northern and central Mississippi on Thursday / Your Mississippi college baseball scoreboard
    The National Weather Service is warning that strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible in northern and central Mississippi starting on Thursday afternoon and lasting through the evening. Damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to the size of a quarter are the primary hazards. The storms are expected to move in around 1 p.m. and last through 10 p.m.
    Plus, in its first game after firing head coach Chris Lemonis, the Mississippi State baseball team exploded for 18 runs to run-rule Memphis in Starkville. The Bulldogs totaled 16 hits with six going for extra bases in the 18 to 5 victory. Over in Hattiesburg, a three-run homer by Jake Cook launched No. 22 Southern Miss to a 9 to 4 win over New Orleans. No. 23 Ole Miss defeated Austin Peay (pea) by a score of 6 to 3. All three teams will return to league action this weekend.

  • Mississippi lawmakers continue negotiations on a state budget ahead of an expected Special Session
    Governor Tate Reeves will be calling a special session so state lawmakers can pass a state budget, but there's still no official word on when that might happen. Lawmakers left the state capitol without approving a budget during the regular session, which means Reeves will have to call a special session to ensure the government is funded after June 30. According to Rep. Scott Bounds, negotiations are ongoing.
