God blesses Egypt and Pharaoh during the famine because of Joseph. When the food, money, and livestock run out, Joseph still provides for the people of Egypt whom they call -the one who saved us-. If was not for Joseph, Egypt and Israel would've perished. But this part of the narrative also shows God's abundant provision for the people of God in a time of scarcity as the people of Israel multiply exceedingly. But Jacob ensures that his people remember the Promised Land, by desiring to have his body buried in Canaan.

Jesus compassion is on display in His willingness to touch and cleanse a leprous man. As Mark transitions toward opposition to the gospel, he records how Jesus commanded the leper to present himself to the priest and perform the purity ritual according to Moses. This is to show Jesus' conformity with the Old Testament ceremonial laws, but also serves as clear evidence to the priest that Jesus is the Messiah.

LBCF 8-5-6 is about what Jesus does in the Gospel with respect to God. Man is under the wrath of God- Christ turns it away. Man has been alienated by God- Christ reconciles sinners to God. Man is in bondage to sin and the law- Christ redeems us from the curse of sin and the curse of the law. There is only one way of salvation in Christ and the benefits are applied to the elect in all ages.

A problem arises with Jacob and his family leaving the promised land- how will the covenant people preserve their identity in a foreign land- After a long-awaited reunion between Jacob and Joseph, Joseph uses his favor with Pharaoh and Egyptian prejudice against shepherds to secure a fertile land as a place for the Hebrews to grow and multiply. Both Jacob and his sons affirm before Pharaoh that they are pilgrims in the land of Egypt. Once again, God's providence provides for the covenant people.

After healing the sick and casting out demons, Jesus withdraws for a time of prayer under the cover of darkness. His earthly mission is from His Father and it cannot be changed based on popularity or misunderstandings about the Kingdom of God. His disciples view the crowds as an opportunity to advance their idea of the Kingdom, but Jesus reminds them that He has come to preach the Kingdom of God, namely Himself, and call sinners to faith and repentance.

LBCF 8-4 is about the gospel- Christ lived, died, rose again, and currently reigns until His return. Christ perfectly obeyed the Law of God and died as the perfect sacrifice. After three days He was raised from the dead. Christ made perfect satisfaction to God and removed the sins of His people. His reigns consists in the sending of His Spirit and the advancement of the church in this world. One day, He will return to judge men and angels.

In Mark 1-29-34, Mark displays the compassion of the Lord Jesus Christ. After casting out a demon in the synagogue, Jesus enters Simon and Andrew's house and heals her from fever. After the Sabbath is over, a great multitude come to Simon's house in order for Jesus to heal the sick and cast out demons. But rather than brush them off, Jesus kindly obliges by healing the sick and casting out demons.

BCF 8-3 is about what makes Jesus qualified to be the mediator. The Father anoints Jesus with the Holy Spirit, furnishes him with the necessary gifts to execute the office of mediator and surety, and gives him authority over all things.

The writer to the Hebrews urges his hearers to hold fast to their confession, which is the gospel of Jesus Christ. The audience toyed with the idea of returning to Judaism, but the writer points out that Jesus is the Great High Priest who is exalted above the heavens. Jesus entered the Holy of Holies above the heavens as our sympathetic High Priest. Thankfully, we approach the throne of grace with joy and assurance knowing that we have communion with God.

After calling his first disciples, Jesus enters the synagogue and teaches with authority. His teaching differs from the scribes as He preaches eternal life through faith. This authority is then put on display as He exorcises a demon-possessed man in the synagogue with His words. Jesus displays that He is the Holy One of God who tramples and destroys the works of the Devil.
