In line with the historic creeds, the Baptist divines assert that Jesus is one person with two natures. Jesus is very God and very man with two whole, perfect, and distinct natures that are inseparably joined together in one person without conversion, composition, or confusion. The hypostatic union is a great mystery, but necessary for eternal life.

As Israel leaves the Promised Land, God appears to him and assures him that he will be with him and his posterity in Egypt. God's covenant promises remain firm and Jacob is assured of this. God's blessing and faithfulness is already seen in the building of the nation through the twelve sons. All of the nation of Israel goes down to Egypt with Jacob in order to be preserved during the famine.

After Jesus proclaims the coming of the Kingdom of God, he calls his first disciples. This signals that the Kingdom will not be according to human convention, but God's design. The Kingdom is about the salvation of souls, which is why Jesus calls the first disciples to be fisher's of men. These men forsake all in order to be God's instruments in bringing about the Kingdom.

LBCF 8-1 gives us the covenantal context for Christ as the Mediator. In the Covenant of Redemption, God the Son, namely Jesus Christ, was appointed by God the Father in eternity to be the mediator between God and Man. The Father promises to send the Spirit to aid him as Mediator and to give him a special seed who would be redeemed, called, justified, sanctified, and glorified.

After Judah's intercession, Joseph sees the change in his brothers and reveals himself to them. He forgives them and assures them that God sent Joseph ahead to preserve their life. Joseph then urges them to bring their father Israel in order to be protected for the rest of the famine.

As Jesus begins his earthly ministry, Mark summarizes his purpose and message. Jesus came to preach the gospel of the Kingdom of God. The response to this gospel is faith and repentance for entrance into the Kingdom of God.

There is unity and diversity when it comes to covenant theology during the era of the 16th and 17th centuries. Unity is seen in that the way of salvation is the same throughout the Bible. But there is diversity how that works out in the biblical record. The Covenant of Grace is salvation offered to sinners in Christ and that does not change, but how that looks in the Bible differs among theologians in the Reformed tradition.

Joseph gives his brothers one final test- will they leave Benjamin in slavery- After placing the cup in Benjamin's sack, Joseph's commands his steward to interrogate them and bring them back. The brothers plead their innocence, but the cup is found in Benjamin's sack. Judah intercedes for Benjamin showing God's gracious transformation in his life from a conniving, jealous type to one who will sacrifice his life.

After John the Baptist preaches about a mightier one who would come, Jesus from Nazareth comes and is baptized by John in the Jordan. Jesus receives his Messianic commission after his baptism by receiving the Spirit and being affirmed by the Father. But his Messianic task is one of suffering, which is evidenced in his baptism as well as his time in the wilderness. Jesus becomes a curse for his people both in his life and death.
