  • Ep.32 The Overreach Of The System
    http://www.survivingthesystem.org

I'm sure by now you all have stories about how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected your life. Maybe you're stuck inside your house unable to leave? Maybe you can't make an income, and don't know how you're going to make it? Maybe you just miss your friends and family, and you're struggling with the lack of human interaction? I know I'm feeling all that frustration, and more!

Do you wonder how things got so crazy so fast? How did the system take over our daily lives so quickly? A month and a half ago, life was normal. And now....it feels like the Apocalypse. I contend that it happened because this is what the system does. The system has been taking people's lives and liberties for decades. Just never on so grand of a scale!

  • Ep.31 The Fall Of The Modern Education System w/ Cameron Cope
    http://www.survivingthesystem.org

Cameron was educated at the United States Air Force Academy, the University of St. Thomas, and the University of Houston where he studied mathematics and computer science. He was a National Merit Scholar finalist in high school and began peer tutoring as a member of the National Honor Society. After university he opened a private tutoring practice and now has over 15 years experience working with families and students as a private tutor and academic consultant.

Along with his wife Katie and their partner Avery Williams, Cameron co-founded TechnoTutor in 2013 to address the problems they saw in the education system, especially in light of the coming automation revolution. TechnoTutor is now the fastest growing direct sales company in the field of education with distributors on 4 different continents. TechnoTutor’s mission is to equalize education for all and to provide meaningful work for many. TechnoTutor has been featured on FOX Business and Bloomberg and endorsed by Donald Trump, Jr and movie star William Shatner.

Cameron and Katie have 2 children, Max and Seneca. Max is almost 3 and a half right now and already reading at a second grade level through using the TechnoTutor technology. Seneca is 1 and a half and has already mastered the curriculum for kindergarten. Cameron has dedicated his life to disrupting the education system and bringing forward tools that will allow any parent to make sure that their child is prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

  • Ep.30 Tales from a former C.O.
    http://www.survivingthesystem.org

Sumaster Newell is a former Correctional Officer with the NE Department of Corrections. During his time at the NDCS he devoted much of his time to working with individuals on how to use the time they had to better themselves. In that pursuit, he also founded the "7 Habits On The Inside" - a course based on the highly successful "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" by Stephen R. Covey.

I had the opportunity to interact one on one with Newell during my time inside, and I can attest to the fact that he's one of the good ones. He truly has the best interests of the men he encountered in mind. His dedication was evident - to the degree that it even cost him his job within the NDCS! I asked him to come on and give us his perspective from another point of view

  • Ep.28 Concrete Pillow
    http://www.survivingthesystem.org

Concrete Pillow originally was a product of Beach Bum Productions and an endeavor to create a documentary. Our goal was to raise awareness of the harshness, unfairness, and cruelty of a little known law referred to as the Felony Murder Rule (FMR), as well as the inequities of the Criminal Justice System. While our passion and vision remain unchanged, we have altered our direction. Due to an overwhelming response from others who have been affected by the FMR and the Criminal Justice System, we have opted for a faster, more direct approach to instituting change.
Concrete Pillow, along with Beach Bum Productions will be creating and airing a series of public service announcements targeted at raising public awareness, pressuring legislators and pushing for reform. Please continue to follow and/or join us in our exciting journey to push for change and help rectify a broken system and heal those affected by it.
We are excited to announce that we are looking into creating a podcast series to garner a larger voice. Join us on our adventure and well will keep you informed as to the progress!

  • Ep.27 Real Life Casualties
    https://www.survivingthesystem.org

Description: As someone who is involved in the Criminal Justice Reform arena, I have friends colleagues who work in the system, or who have been in the system. Let me tell you, it's a battle almost every day to keep from letting the struggle get you down. Most days you come through and win. And yet, sometimes these same friends and colleagues lose the battle. This week, I'll share 2 real-life stories from people in my life who are facing some pretty serious challenges. A play by play from the battlefield, if you will.

  • Ep.26 My Experience With Re-Entry Barriers
    http://www.survivingthesystem.org

"Having been through the Re-Entry process, I now have an opportunity to help guide others through this process. Successfully, I hope! I know from experience, and from all the data and statistics out there, that it's going to be a challenge. It got me thinking about how many people don't understand exactly how difficult of a process it really is. The barriers and challenges that are placed in front of an individual re-entering the community are HUGE! Nearly insurmountable! In this episode, I'll talk about my top 3, and why they're so challenging."
