Luna escapes the root cellar with the key still in her pocket and the woman wearing her face gone. She walks the strange alternate Sycamore Ridge at dawn, searching for answers. In her grandmother's empty house, she finds a letter addressed to her in her grandmother's handwriting, dated the day after her death. The letter speaks of a third choice not yet made and ends with an address on Cypress Street, a road that doesn't exist in the real town. Luna goes there, finding a house that wasn't there before, and in its attic, a roomful of photographs—all of her, taken at different ages, but in each one her eyes are closed. A woman's voice behind her says she's been waiting for Luna to find this place. Luna turns, and standing in the doorway is her grandmother, young and alive, with the shadow child clinging to her skirt.
