Tabor Church

The Advent readings today really give a perfect balance. Isaiah calls us to joy, Amos calls us to repentance, and Paul in Corinth calls us to give generously. I think this is a perfect balance for the season of Advent as we get ready for Christmas.

Today we are in Luke 7:18-22. John the Baptist is wondering if Jesus is the Messiah that they had been expecting or is there another? This is coming from a guy who already told his disciples that Jesus was the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. What happened? John was in jail and maybe the doubts crept in. Doubt is real.

Hope is a word that has been hijacked. We use hope synonymously with wish. We hope that something might happen, but most likely it will not. When we hope in the Lord, we will never be put to shame. Let's be confident about our hope.

Patiently and Confidently...two words that we recognize but are a little bit foreign to us. A big theme of Advent is waiting. We are taking a look at Romans 8:22-24 and see that we are not the only ones who are waiting with expectation. Take a listen to find out.

We are closing out the week with a prophecy. The Prophets of God and prophecy is another big theme of Advent. We will not look at the prophets of old today but one that was a little closer to Jesus birth- Zechariah. We will take a look at Luke 1:68-79. Take a listen.

Light is a big theme in the season of Advent. Today we will look at John 1:1-5 and highlight the place where Jesus is referenced at life and light. Light has come into the world and it is a good reminder with darkness being more prevalent that we have hope in the midst of it all.

Today we are going to take a look at Psalm 107. I remember in Jr high Christian school we would close our lunch prayer with 107:1- Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, His love endures forever. It is a good Psalm as we prepare for Thanksgiving but also to be incorporated into our attitude of gratitude. Take a listen.

The word Eucharist sounds like a catholic word. It really is used by other people and so today we'll talk about the word and what it means to give thanks. Let's not let this week or this month be the only time we give thanks. Attitude of Gratitude is what we are looking for.
