Tabor Church

We are continuing to look at the John 12 as we move along in this Holy Week. Once again Jesus predicts his own death and knows that it must be done. We also talk today about the 12:21- when it is requested of Philip, "Sir, we want to see Jesus." There are people who want to still meet Jesus today. Are you a barrier or an usher?

Today is the Monday of Holy Week and we begin with the scripture for the day John 12:1-10. In this passage Jesus is anointed with expensive perfume that fills the house with a sweet fragrance. Today I talk through the text but I also encourage you to spend some tie this Holy Week with it.

Today we are wrapping up our series on the Dysfunctional Family Tree. I hope you have enjoyed the series and have witnessed God working in the lives of a bunch of imperfect people. God also invites you in to this family that has some dysfunction but we follow a perfect God.

Today we are talking about the dysfunction that has come from the terminology of the Bible. Paul talks about slaves and masters in Ephesians and Colossians and then some have tried to use those to justify the continuance of slavery in our nation. The two are not the same and we need to clear up this dysfunction.

Many of Paul's letters to the churches were trying to address issues that he heard were going wrong, Paul writes to the Church in Ephesus and talks about unity and making room for people. We all have faults, but we somehow want others peoples faults to match ours so we don't have to feel bad about ourselves. The Body of Christ is diverse and we are going to look differently...make room for it.

Today we talk about the confrontation of Paul against the strong Peter. Peter was being a hypocrite and Paul decided it would be right to call him out in front of everyone. There is no excuse for Peter's behavior but should Paul have handled it that way? Dysfunction rolls deep. Good thing Grace is sufficient.

Today we start the journey into the epistles. We talk in general about Corinth and the man issues that they face. It is really easy to fall into false understanding and doubt and struggle become natural. It is necessary for us to talk and seek God in these matters. We are in good company with the family at Corinth.

Today we discover more conflict/dysfunction in Acts 15. Paul and Barnabas go their separate ways after a heated argument. From our perspective it was handled pretty well as they continue on their mission but noticed they couldn't work together. Why do we separate ourselves from fellow disciples? With a common vision shouldn't we be able to move forward together?

Today we get into one of the most argued about items in the early church...circumcision or not? Salvation becomes a Jesus + _________________. This is not the kind of dysfunction we want in our church today. But it may not be circumcision but we find other things to fill on the black with and leads people to question the whole thing.

Today we are going to look at Saul/Paul. He was breathing out murderous threats and leading Christ followers to the their death. Now this guy is on your team...do you trust them? God can do amazing things. Can we trust that God brings to us people that He has already been working on?
