At OSCON last week in Austin, Texas, Capital One open source community outreach manager Jared Smith and Jono Bacon — a well-known consultant in the open source community — discussed their observations about the tricky logistics of a financial institution shifting towards more “permissive” open source culture, in a wide-ranging discussion with The New Stack’s Alex Williams.
First, said Smith, you need that top-down support — the perception that openness and permissiveness is being embraced at the highest levels. Senior management fully supports Capital One’s work over the past two years to make open source core to the company’s technology strategy, and its business development.
But what about the institution’s middle managers? Listen to more what Smith and Bacon had to say on working with middle management and other topics, in this latest edition of The New Stack Makers.
