Grade 1 ABRSM The Toy Pod-Class 1 Free Lessons for Beginners Piano With Sarnia Podcast.
oh guys i'm so excited it's arrived it's arrived the book the uh grade one examination coursework book i can't wait i love it i just love it when i get a new book now i'm going to do a toy and i'm going to um let's talk about the fingering get your pencil ready i want you to write in as much of the fingering as possible you will find it really really helpful and also the note names if you need them i'm all for annotating your work scroll is good you'll only look at it for the first sort of ten times and then you won't look at it anymore you won't even know it's there and you can rub it out if you want so do it in pencil ring g major when i sit down to practice this or teach it i'm going to insist that we do our g major chords okay hands separately is fine

and that's our scale and then chords and arpeggios

    and the other hand

and all the notes together okay g major lovely love it love it love it right i'm going to call out the fingering so here we go we're on the top upper d 5 four three two one five move up to two three five four five two we'll be doing the left presently come right down to the d two three five f sharp four five two move back up five four three two one four and two it's written in three and five one four three on the c sharp one and four one and four stretch up to this a write it in a with your pinky four three two one on the same note we play with our fifth five four three two one then we move up a note four and two nice and quiet five and three and then we move back down for two and five four on the c one and three on the g and the b pass over f sharp and a and then one and four one and four five three on that f sharp and one and four again okay and we finish nice and loudly we'll worry about that later okay put your sharps in um put everything you need in very important especially at a podcast because i'm not there to scroll all over your music right let's go from the left hand now interestingly this is all in the treble clef so normally it would be your left hand that's played your right hand is playing all this but we're we're playing this b so it's it's a top uh a top note upper a right upper in there but um you can uh you'll have to memorize it but it's the it's not the one the middle c one it's the um the next c along so three two three four five 5 under with one okay two three four five okay and thumb on the d and three two three four five so where the hand lies nothing too difficult there and another g now this is quite hard to read isn't it because what are all those lines well that line uh two lines up that's the middle c ledger line do you see that's how we know where it is and then we play that g again okay the keynote

then we move up again to the g and we're going to play a natural f

one two three four five two and four uh sorry f sharp now break your pardon it goes back to the key signature so let's just uh two and four on there and then pass your thumb under one and five and two and four again if you if you look at these two you can it's easier to so you don't get lost

okay so it's two and four one and five two four two and four okay now we're going back up to the a one two three four five quietly i hope you can hear that and then we're moving down one note just the one and natural left again but quieter we'll worry about the volume uh next time and then four and two and that's an f sharp so we've got it they're throwing a lot of naturals in but you'll get to know the tune um and it will make perfect sense and then we move our whole hand down lean into it don't stretch or anything um well it's quite near the middle isn't it you probably aren't stretching at all g with a fifth and that's a d so look at look at that it changes back to bass clef so now we can read all this probably d with a thumb and then two three and then pass your...

Bow Angle Exercise Beginners Intermediate Cello School Suzuki ABRSM Student Tips with Sarnia
    Homework and prep studies.

hi everyone so i'm just going to do a little exercise with you it's very very good for um practicing a straight bow and therefore improving your tone so we're going to do a c scale and we're going to do it near the frog in the middle of the bow and at the tip okay so let's do the frog end

did you notice in the mirror that your bow every time you change a string has to really change direction and it's really obvious when you're near the frog let's do it in the middle you don't notice so much do you there's not so much maneuvering around because when you're in the middle of the bow it's that's where we're used to playing you see so interesting i mean we still have to change direction but our hand doesn't look so bent up if you like let's try right at the tip let's try that get ready

sorry i did a flat let's do it again

it's quite difficult isn't it i mean you can you're really good

you can really get i'm right at the tip and i my arm has to stretch so far out

it's a really it's such a good way of i mean we're we're okay i think um i mean look at your body just you're is it almost if you're running on when you're doing it on the a now look when you move to the um the g string look at your body now um i mean your arms are almost horizontal aren't they

what happens when you get to this eight you're on the tip when you get to this a i mean i'm not a big person but my arm is really

    what you see

i love this exercise it's just fabulous really try if you can to get as close to the um the ends don't worry about um uh you know fingering and things like that or if you make a mistake i did there i made a did i make a b flat or i did something don't worry about that what you're looking at you're studying in the mirror

the extent to which you can stretch your arm and the reason this is really good is because it tells your brain when you're coming round to these notes what sort of angles you need to be at and doing of course the thing when you're using the tip you've got to be careful you don't actually stab your cello because you're over compensating so um my chair has got a few injury marks on it from doing that um when i was at speed so there we go i hope that helps but just a bit of fun really um but try it and see try it if you're learning the the scales and you've just started your cello just use the middle give yourself a break don't have to push yourself just yet

  • Chromatic Scale Shift Grade 8 Pod-Class for the Elégie Fingering Notes Free Online Classes with Sarnia
Chromatic Scale Shift Grade 8 Pod-Class 3 Fingering Notes Free Online Classes with Sarnia
    Preparation for the Elegie.

right so our next uh little um practice for the chromatic scale is uh involving a shift now for the elegy we need lots of shifts and lots of um agile movement around a lot of dexterity so i just wanted to split the chromatic scale from the grade 8 up into starting on this open a and to

i just want to sort out that shift um actually don't uh do a vibrato it's very bad when you're doing your scales to do a vibrato i want to keep it dead we want to know that you're in tune um so let's let's just do that so we're on an open uh i mean you should shouldn't need to look at um music to do this but when you're learning the fingering especially if you like me you've done a lot of airplaying and i've got massive uh massive gaps because um when you play with a band you tend to just kind of do your thing you know and play by ear so the the fingering is some of this fingering it needs to be learnt it needs to be deeply embedded in your inner psyche so open a b-flat c c-sharp

and then you're going to so this is the really important bits um from the c sharp d e flat and then to the e natural one two three one one two three one

do you see so please please please

practice that um it's laborious it's a bit boring but this is so useful and if you can you want to do it do it on a slur because we're going to use lots and lots of slurred bow movements in our rendition of our 30-day practice session so the next

etcetera i will do um presently um time permitting uh so yeah practice practice practice it's exciting isn't it i'm very very excited it's almost like if you do all the prep exercises you're just gagging to start darling's gagging to start and i think that's really good to build up some psychological um interest and excitement for but hold back don't um overwhelm yourself early hold back hold back hold back get really good keep checking in the mirror check those straight bows check everything over and over again go back do things go back to you know go back to suzuki book one even and just check that you're doing everything properly check your ear listen to the recording okay back later

  • Prep for Grade 8 Cello Chromatic Scale to 4th Position Fingering Pod-Class Free Lesson ABRSM
Prep for Grade 8 Cello Chromatic Scale to 4th Position Fingering Pod-Class Free Lesson ABRSM.
hi everyone so i'm just going to go over the uh fingering for the prep exercise the chromatic scale from grade 8. we're going to start on g i think this is the most useful um at the moment we will we should really work on them all but i it's the fingering that i want you to grasp today okay i'm just going to go up to the shift when it goes on to fourth position and and later on we'll or in another class we'll go from fourth position up um to to that uh very high bit i think that's um that's quite a lot to do all in one go so we've got open g and this is the standard fingering for chromatic scales open one two three one two three open one two three one two three open one two three one two three and down to fourth okay and then we'll be going on to do the rest um in the next episode now obviously um it's quite hard to get it uh spot on at first you're gonna need to work on this um i haven't done these for a while either so i'm a bit rusty

so uh what you what you can do is make sure that when you come on to this c sharp and then to the d that you're a semitone and likewise here okay because normally in the normal run of things we might be doing a forward extension there on that um a flat with a fourth for example or if we're in second position we might do it with a second so using a third is going to throw you a little bit okay but a little bit of work a little bit of practice and you'll be able to do that okay um so the fingering naught one two three shift down to one uh not one two three shift to one two three open and back extension and etc um really absorb all that today um before we start the elegy which we're going to start later on um we're only going to introduce ourselves to the to a few basics and um i don't think we'll have time to do a whole line but we'll certainly be thinking about how to find that opening note and very very important for us and we'll be listening and understanding um uh when to come in with the piano also very important i want you to listen to it i forgot to put it up last night but i'll put it up today um on on the blog so um yeah very good very good uh keep working at that do it i was doing it a bit fast there so

really keep it nice and steady nice and slow um it's a good opportunity to practice your bowing technique make sure you're dead straight and and and also how you will how you will you could do staccato even

uh that's quite a good um way to practice as well as many different ways as you can of course for the actual exam um you would be asked to do separate bows and slurred both

okay i mean i like sled bearing myself i'm better at it than separate but the examiner would ask you one or the other so you need to be good at both but i'm not going to do um slurred now there's plenty of opportunity for that in the coming 30 days challenge okay so yeah bye

  • (Pod-Class 3) Suzuki Cello Book 1 String Crossing D-A Free Lesson Posture Bow Tone Exercise
(Pod-Class 3) Suzuki Cello Book 1 String Crossing D-A Free Lesson Posture Bow Tone Exercis

hi tail tellers welcome to tail telecom now listen we're going to um go on to the second exercise for changing strings this is quite exciting this is really starting to properly play the cello so i hope you've got the mirror in front of you um go near the frog i think uh about four inches is probably the easiest position for us at the moment and let me play the top line for you

now you notice that we've got those two rests and those rests mean um uh absence of playing notes but actually if you imagine these in your head and then say it again in your head it's time to cross strings

um but of course we're crossing the string while we're doing the rest so we are already there so

cross the string but don't play it and cross the string but don't play it and cross the string but don't play it yet do you see so we're all ready now the next line we have no rests so it's a little bit different we need to be there pretty quick now keep checking in the mirror for um let's just practice uh a long bow keeping it straight down on the d a down bow on the d and an up bow on the a let's try that string swap up

    string swap down

    string swap up

okay now we're going to do those quickly

very good well that's all you have to do so what you have to remember is to do don't leave it too late to cross over to the next note because then you'll end up with this oh now i've got to cross that's too late okay now let's do our check what are our checks do you remember have you listened to the reference recordings i hope so over and over again so that you really know what to what what to do and that's how you get faster because you know what's coming did you make a pretty sound or a squeaky sound if it was squeaky your bow wasn't straight

    if it was straight

you would have made a pretty sound okay

always look in the mirror always have a mirror in front of you uh is your posture correct is your back straight how about your hand have you got that little mouse living under there are your fingers really relaxed and your thumb vent and feather like

happy touching the bow just gliding just you're really the bow sits because gravity tells it to sit there and all our hand is doing is stopping it rolling forward that's all and then guiding it in a straight line and parents and teachers are they motivating you i do hope so i hope you enjoy practicing that's the thing um practicing becomes um a ritual really for all musicians successful musicians and by successful i mean musicians who are improving every day you can not practice and you will find that you will go right back to the beginning very very quickly so it's a really good idea to practice every day and some people some musicians practice more than once a day and i think that's the way to do it myself it means you don't get body pains and things like that but when you're young you probably don't mind about things like that so much so that's our check done and that's the exercise for changing string and the next exercise is for quick placement of fingers and we'll be doing that a little bit later i don't think we should be rushing these things back soon

but the trip to york produced no fruit some of the trades people did indeed remember old mrs willis and her granddaughter but had neither seen nor heard of them since they left they knew very little about them personally and nothing whatever of their previous history as they had stayed only a short time in the town and had been remarkably shy and uncommunicative the result it was thought of their having come down in life much disappointed slider and i returned to london it is fortunate that we did not tell granny the object of our trip so that she will be spared the disappointment that we have met with said i as the train neared the metropolis my companion made no reply he had evidently taken the matter much to heart we were passing rapidly through the gradually thickening groups of streets and houses which be sprinkled the circumference of the great city and sat gazing contemplatively on backyards chimney cans unfinished suburban residences pieces of waste ground back windows internal domestic arrangements etc as they flew past in rapid succession robin said i breaking the silence again and using the name which had by that time grown familiar have you made up your mind yet about taking service with dr mcdougall now that we have got mrs jones engaged and paid to look after granny she will be able to get on pretty well without you and you shall have time to run over and see her frequently hmm i don't quite see my way returned the boy with a solemn look you see sir if it was a page and buttons i was to be to attend on my young lady the governess i might take it into consideration but to go into buttons in blue merely to open a door and do the polite to visitors and mix up things with bad smells by way of a change why do you see the prospect ain't tempting besides i hate blue the buttons is all well enough but blue reminds me so of the bobbies that i didn't think i could survive it long indeed i don't robin said i reproachfully i'm grieved at your indifference to friendship also sir have you not mentioned merely your objections and the disadvantages without once weighing against them the advantages

which are said i being under the same roof with me and with punch to say nothing of your young lady ah to be sure well but i did think of all that only don't you see i'll come to be under the same roof with you all in course of time when you've got splashed and set up for slider said i sternly and losing my patience under the boy's presumption you must never again dare to speak of such a thing you know very well that is quite out of the question and and you'll get into a careless way of referring to such a possibility among servants or no honor bright exclaimed slider with for the first time a somewhat a bashed look in his face i wouldn't for the wealth of the angie say a word to nobody whatsoever it's only a tween ourselves that our winners too well well enough said i don't in future venture to do it even between ourselves if you care to retain my friendship now robin i added as the train slowed of course you'll not let a hint of our reason for going north pass your lips to poor granny or anyone and give her the old message that i'll be along to see her soon it was a pleasant return to such a hearty reception as i met with from the doctor's family although my absence had been but for a few days the children came crowding and clinging around me declaring that it seemed like weeks since i left them the doctor himself was as usual exuberant and his wife extremely kind miss blythe i found had not yet returned and was not expected for some time but the reception accorded me by the doctor and his family was as nothing...

adventure the first of the adventures of a brownie this is a librivox recording all librivox recordings are in the public domain for more information or to volunteer please visit librivox.org the adventures of a brownie as told to my child by miss molek adventure the first brownie and the cook

there once was a little brownie who lived where do you think he lived in a cool cellar now a coal cellar may seem a most curious place to choose to live in but then a brownie is a curious creature a fairy and yet not one of that sort of fairies who fly about on gossamer wings and dance in the moonlight and so on he never dances and as to wings what use would they be to him in a coal cellar he is a sober stay-at-home household elf nothing much to look at even if you did see him which you are not likely to do only a little man about a foot high all dressed in brown with a brown face and hands and a brown pink cap just the color of a brown mouse and like a mouse he hides in corners especially kitchen corners and only comes out after dark when nobody is about and so sometimes people call him mr nobody i said you were not likely to see him i never did certainly and never knew anybody that did but still if you were to go into devonshire you would hear many funny stories about brownies in general and so i may as well tell you the adventures of this particular brownie who belonged to a family there which family he had followed from house to house most faithfully for years and years a good many people had heard him or supposed they had when there were extraordinary noises about the house noises which must have come from a mouse or a rat or a brownie but nobody had ever seen him except the children the three little boys and three little girls who declared he often came to play with them when they were alone and was the nicest companion in the world though he was such an old man hundreds of years old he was full of fun and mischief and up to all sorts of tricks but he never did anybody any harm unless they deserved it brownie was supposed to live under one particular coal in the darkest corner of the cellar which was never allowed to be disturbed while he had chosen it nobody knew and how he lived there nobody knew either nor what he lived upon except that ever since the family could remember there had always been a bowl of milk put behind the coal cellar door for the brownie supper perhaps he drank it perhaps he didn't anyhow the bowl was always found empty the next morning the old cook who had lived all her life in the family had never once forgotten to give brownie his supper but at last she died a young cook came in her stead who was very apt to forget everything she was also both careless and lazy and disliked taking the trouble to put a bowl of milk in the same place every night for mr nobody she didn't believe in brownies she said she had never seen one and seemed believing so she laughed at the other servants who looked very grave and put the bowl of milk in its place as often as they could without saying much about it but once when brownie woke up at his usual hour for rising 10 o'clock at night and looked round in search of his supper which was in fact his breakfast he found nothing there at first he could not imagine such neglect and went smelling and smelling about for his bowl of milk it was not always placed in the same corner now but in vain this will never do said he and being extremely hungry he began running about the coal cellar to see what he could find his eyes were as useful in the dark as in the light like a pussycats but there was nothing to be seen not even a potato pairing or a dry crust or a well-known bone such as tiny the terrier sometimes brought into the coal cellar and left on the floor nothing in short but heaps of coal and coal dust and even a brownie cannot eat that you know can't stand this quite...
