Today we continue with the series of short stories from the pen of Tom Cagley Sr titled Partners for Life In this series of stories, Tom develops a group of stories about events and ideas that shape the lives of his protagonists. Each story is thought provoking and just a little bit about real life.
Today we have two stories:Admittedly it was a difficult question. The question was straight up: In your career, what were you? A liar, a cheat, a wailer and be-moaner, someone who could never make a hard decision. Were you passive-aggressive? I got some great answers. Ask around: See what you learn.
and
Smoke alarm. A smoke alarm wakes you up. There is a fire in your house. a. where's your phone? b. where's your wallet c. where's the fire extinguisher? Then, what do you save? Think about it and decide--- then get ready for the Call to Action, if it happens.
Last year, my father, Tom Cagley Sr published a new book titled, I Was Your Son: A Troubled Journey. The book is a view into Tom Cagley Sr's soul. When asked why should anyone read this book? He answered, "Because the end effect is restorative and invigorating and because everyone who’s ever had a father like this wants to believe there is a happy way out."
A recent review stated it even more powerfully, "I love this book; it is a very telling, touching story of one man's troubled past with his father who obviously had problems of his own. He had no love for his son in his being beyond childhood. I feel so very much for Tom; he was disconnected from his Dad for no good reason; never able to see or talk to him again---not his problem, but scared him none the less.
This story is a lesson in how not to act as a father. His father did not apply the story of the prodigal son in the bible; that is the kind of love we should have for our children. I pray that in telling his story, this book will help Tom heal and go forward and help those who read it never to make the same mistake, as his father."

Name your own personal story. I asked some people to put a title to their own life story, maybe what they'd write it on their grave marker.

They all took the plunge. All six children answered one of my off-the-cuff questions. The statement and the question: In your life if you had one moment where something happened, you made a decision from that, and from that moment on your life was a chain reaction from that decision. What was that moment? You might ask around, all of you, and let me know what you learn.

Does the doctor make a difference? His is only an opinion, right? And generically they call it the medical practice, right? In my case, one doctor who had treated me before said one thing. My internist gave me his opinion. Which should I choose?

Impatience bites back. I am impatient when people in front of me in a line seem to be delaying progress for a "gossipy reason", ya know? When someone behind me gets impatient, and they fidget and shift from one foot to the other or drum their fingers on a table nearby while I am talking, I get angry at them. It's an about-face which can be embarrassing when I remember when the places were reversed, ya know?

Essen Crossings 2015 I did what the police officer said and got a ticket for the infraction. I spoke to a neighborhood lawyer after reading the law and decided to fight it. But without his help, knowing the vagaries of Louisiana's court systems, I walked away and paid the piper. And
February had 31 days in it this year. I didn't mind following a schedule given to me, but when the add-ons began to a pileup with the timeframe left the same, it got expensive.

The Falcon --- who knew? When a falcon lands in your back yard, what does it portend for your day? Is the arrival of a predator a good sign? I didn't really think about it until the day was over.

It had already been a weird day. On the way home while walking the dog in the drizzle at dusk, I realized that what "they" say may be possible: The dead really never DO stop talking to you.

Welcome to Tales By Tom. Today we conclude the series titled "Places Near the Rainbow's End." In this series my father ruminates on life using places that have made an impression on his life. These stories are influenced by places as far apart as Baton Rouge and Goose Bay, Canada. Whether a story about a stolen car or saloon doors, each story will leave you with something to think about!
Today, we have one story. The synopsis is:
The keys to getting places. Allow me two caveats, then see if my six steps would work for you or someone you care about, then walk with me through the ABCs on how to succeed...there really are 26, mostly one-liners. In the end, there is a warning. I learned it in the ring and on the road.
In two weeks . . . we begin a new series with a two new stories!

How I got here, wherever that is. This is a brief life story and passes along three ideas, simple as they can be, that can work for everyone ---- and a nod to someone way up the ladder who can help you as He did me.

Flying to Cleveland. I make this flight twice a year. The airplane itself is never an issue, safety-wise, but the going and coming is as unpredictable as can be...like the weather, I guess.
