  • Tales By Tom - Life Is An Attitude 006

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the sixth and final installment of Life is an Attitude ---pick a good one.  Next we begin a new series titled A Family Affair or Two and Some Dogs.

This series takes a look at people's attitudes and how that attitude effects the world around them.

Flush: A sudden noise within a small enclosed area can be frightening, but a Tootsie Pop could make the pain better.

A Roof over my Head, Visible and Invisible: In the one-page Part One, I finally lived in a house long enough to replace a visible roof. In the one-page Part Two, I describe four dreams that provided an invisible one.

Recently my father, Tom Cagley Sr published a new book titled, I Was Your Son: A Troubled Journey.  The book is a view into Tom Cagley Sr's soul.  When asked why should anyone read this book ?  He answered, "Because the end effect is restorative and invigorating and because everyone who’s ever had a father like this wants to believe there is a happy way out."

A recent review stated it even more powerfully, "I love this book; it is a very telling, touching story of one man's troubled past with his father who obviously had problems of his own. He had no love for his son in his being beyond childhood. I feel so very much for Tom; he was disconnected from his Dad for no good reason; never able to see or talk to him again---not his problem, but scared him none the less.

This story is a lesson in how not to act as a father. His father did not apply the story of the prodigal son in the bible; that is the kind of love we should have for our children. I pray that in telling his story, this book will be help Tom heal and go forward and help those who read it never to make the same mistake, as his father."

  • Tales By Tom - Life Is An Attitude 005

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the fifth installment of Life is an Attitude ---pick a good one

This series takes a look at people's attitudes and how that attitude effects the world around them.

A Story about Afghanistan by a gifted 4th/5th grade class: A 13-page story which I received from the secretary of our graduation class at Notre Dame. It told a poignant story BUT HAD NO WORDS. I copied the pictures and gave them to the class on Tuesday and asked them to think about, just think about, what they thought should be the caption beneath the snapshot. Three children answered---and WOW!

Thank Goodness: Weddings come, as do funerals. Nothing is stagnant, and I say thank goodness for them both---for enough pain so that the joys, with the right attitude, appear even bigger.

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the fourth installment of Life is an Attitude ---pick a good one

This series takes a look at people's attitudes and how that attitude effects the world around them.

Traditions Are Ties That Bind: My scoop won't be yours, but I know six things that have worked in the past for us and might make you believe.

Free Gas: I tell you---pumping gas can be a real experience, like getting panhandled (showing my age. aren't I?),and other disappointments and intrusions. But this would be my lucky day.

  • Tales By Tom - Special 001 Happy Birthday Elvis

Elvis Presley would have been 80 today, and for lunch he's probably have had a peanut butter and banana "sammich," as he called it. In honor of the occasion, I've written of my experiences with his memory and his wife.

Happy Birthday, King, and did you ever try a banana and peanut butter pie?

  • Tales By Tom - Life Is An Attitude 003

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the third installment of Life is an Attitude ---pick a good one

This series takes a look at people's attitudes and how that attitude effects the world around them.

The Real Story ---I mean the real one--- about Adam's and Eve's Pets: It's a story you may never have heard. God sent them three, but in the end they didn't work out. But two others might. Life even then was an attitude.

There Was This Obituary: It's not been in any newspapers, but its passing has been sadly and sorely noted.

  • Tales By Tom - Life Is An Attitude 002

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the second installment of Life is an Attitude ---pick a good one

This series takes a look at people's attitudes and how that attitude effects the world around them.

My Fashion Director: In my last four-wall retailing position, she reported to me, along with a hundred or so others. She was unique in every way--- to most everyone and attractive in her own way.

School's Out for Summer: But no reason as a volunteer in the 4th/5th gifted group, I couldn't pose 5 questions before they left, get their responses, discuss them with the class, write them down --- and maybe all of us learn something in the process

  • Tales By Tom - Life Is An Attitude 001

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the first installment of Life is an Attitude ---pick a good one

This new series takes a look at people's attitudes and how that attitude effects the world around them.

A Guidebook for Life: Children's book that have stood the test of time are usually good guidelines. The Little Engine that Could comes to mind, as does The Three Pigs,  even Elf on the Shelf in a more modern arena. There's a moral here at the end, also, how attitude shapes everything we do.

    and

The Dragon Slayer: Who said I couldn't? Everyone I talked to told me it was foolish, except the guy in the mirror ---and he had watched Law and Order too often to be intimidated.

This new series takes a long look at events in Tom Cagle Sr's life.  A view with a knowing eye!

    This week two stories:

"Forget the Falcon” I heard that a sighting of one of the breed was a bad omen. I didn’t believe the old wives’ tale. Maybe I should have.

“Sara got loose” I have never been more frightened in my life. I had trouble falling asleep for days afterwards, imagining the possibilities.

This new series takes a long look at events in Tom Cagle Sr's life.  A view with a knowing eye!

    This week two stories:

“Do you need a mentor in your life?” You’ll hear what I said. Then you might decide if you had a trusted counselor or teacher in your life. I wonder how many of you had one, not including a parent or relative.

“Then and Now” I was given a book that had been signed by the authors in 1964. Its subject was Business Decisions that changed our lives (in the first half of the century. I recently bought a book that would compare those BIG IDEAS with what happened in the last half of the same century. Yikes! Now, I’ll be gone by the time the next five decades pass, but if the past 50 are any criteria for the future…well, they aren’t so hang on!

    This week two stories:

“An old rosary” I have one that I bought while I was in college. Even when not a Catholic, I used to recite the rosary when I ran long distances. Then I received another one that was an antique, a family heirloom

“How far have we come?” I listened to a president’s inaugural address, and it took me way back to when JFK gave his and the state the union was in then. I still wonder…how far are we along on that road?
