Story 2 - What do we do about the Postal Service? I have some ideas and there are others---we just need to move forward and begin the inevitable process.

  • Tales By Tom - Long Long 007

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the seventh and final installment of Tom Cagley Sr's short story collections entitled, “Long Long Ago and Far Away.”

Story 12. I can’t come to work today because…  How many excuses are there? As many as there are people, I guess. Imaginations do tend to run wild ---I’ve heard a few. Any wild ones I haven’t added in here?

And finally, to wrap things up we have an epilogue!

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the sixth installment of Tom Cagley Sr's short story collections entitled, “Long Long Ago and Far Away.”

Story 11.  I want to tell your future. Sure, we’ve all been to one of those people or have at least thought about it. My quest started with a Magic 8 ball when I was a kid. I asked around about what people would like to know…amazing answers are included here.

  • Tales By Tom - Long Long Ago and Far Away 005

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the fifth installment of Tom Cagley Sr's short story collections entitled, “Long Long Ago and Far Away.”

Story 9.  Let’s talk about hiring. Step back and be the boss for a minute. You have a position open and an applicant in front of you who fits the profile. What’s the right question to ask to find out for sure if he/she fits into your company and will help it grow?

Story 10  We reinvented ourselves. I’m talking about me and my first three sons. You have to, don’t you? The road you’ve been on ends and not even gravel remains. What do you do? Pitch a tent and rot? I think not. Here’s what we did---how about you?

  • Tales By Tom - Long Long 004

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the fourth installment of Tom Cagley Sr's short story collections entitled, “Long Long Ago and Far Away.”

Story 7.  The Fallibility of Faust. I feel like this untold story has been with me for my entire adult life. Almost, I say, looking back to the winter of 1955.

Story 8   Transplant and re-transplant. I was a transplant to Baton Rouge from Memphis in 1975. I transplanted my family because of the job. That’s what retailers do. But then we moved to Florida. Eleven years later we moved back.  Doesn’t that make me/us a retransplant?

  • Tales By Tom - Long Long 003

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the third installment of Tom Cagley Sr's short story collections entitled, “Long Long Ago and Far Away.”

Story 5. Suddenly the lights went out and it was dark. The light are on in this New York showroom, and then they are out as were all the lights in the northeast area of the United States. What happened next?

Story 6. A quadruple lucky day. This happened before Pearl Harbor on a hot day in Hopkins, MN (which is just west of Minneapolis) when I was getting my haircut

  • Tales By Tom - Long Long 002

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the second installment of Tom Cagley Sr's short story collections entitled, “Long Long Ago and Far Away.”

Story 3.  In a quiet abbey long, long ago. When I compare then to now, I am amazed at the noise we accept today as routine. Wasn’t like that in 1960 ---or 1990 even.

Story 4.  Just a Wednesday this March in an even-numbered year that began after an awful dream. I had a bad dream and related it to the teacher I work with in pre-K after driving through a crazy enough storm to almost send me back home. Glad I didn’t. There would be three bits of good news later and a legacy would unfold which reminded me of something that happened in 1951.

  • Tales By Tom - Long Long 001

Welcome to Tales By Tom. This is the first installment of Tom Cagley Sr's short story collections entitled, “Long Long Ago and Far Away.”

Story 1.  Where were you on December 7, 1941?  Each of us has an answer, I bet, if you’re old enough. I certainly am  and  you may find mine to be different from yours by many miles.

Story 2.  Wall covering that doesn’t come in a roll. I’m talking about pictures, the ones you hang (a one-armed picture hanger is not good either) on the walls of your home that you see every day. I couldn’t live without them. As a matter of fact, I have more to frame---and not enough wall space. That is regrettable.
