Episode 50 You Say It’s Your Birthday…

A very special 50th episode finds us also landing on Jeremy’s birthday. We resurrect the Bottle of Death to salute Keith Emerson, HD Vinyl is a thing to watch for but is probably poorly named, and we hear a brilliant new cut from Central California’s Style Like Revelators. Bands we initially dismissed and those we just don’t get are discussed, Dark Side of the Moon is the Rolling Stone album in the countdown, and Jeremy plays probably the single weirdest vinyl track ever in Surface Noise! Not to be missed!!

Episode 49—The One Before 50

In this episode, we scour Spin Magazine’s list of The Top 50 Bands Right Now in an effort to find relevance (and recognition) and chime in with our own Top 10s. Central California’s excellent Slow Season gets a vinyl spin and then Tower District Records owner Bobs joins us to talk about what the BBC calls “The 8 Tribes of Vinyl Collectors”. Patti Smith’s “Horses” lands on the Rolling Stone countdown and we redeem ourselves with some really good vinyl tunes on Surface Noise.

Episode 48—This Sounds Like Sh*t

In this episode, we discuss the vinyl vs. CD debate (emotionally, sonically, and scientifically). The late Dan Hicks gets a vinyl track and then we give the CD a little love, explaining why the format may not be dead yet. The Band’s self titled album pops up in the Rolling Stone countdown and we play some truly awful music in Surface Noise (on purpose–and you’ll love it and hate it all at the same time).

Your ears may suffer from sensory overload from all the spirited discussion in this episode. Aside from the challenging crosstalk, we dive into Puddle of Mudd singer Wes Scantlin’s latest meltdown and discover that STP is looking yet again for another singer (and not because Scott Weiland died…). Great new tracks from White Denim and Iggy Pop are featured and Andrew has us take on a vinyl grading exercise to differing results. Our quickest salute ever to the fallen rock stars of late and we examine Bob Marley’s “Legend” in the Rolling Stone segment.
