Wednesday was the first day of the early signing period. If the Rebels are done, and sources insist they probably are, they’ll hold the nation’s No. 15 overall class. 

Ole Miss pulled it off mostly through a star-studded in-state class. The Rebels signed five-star Caleb Cunningham, the nation’s No. 3 wide receiver and Mississippi’s top recruit. They also flipped four-star linebacker Tyler Lockhart from rival Mississippi State.

Lockhart was in attendance for the Rebels' regular-season finale — a 26-13 win over the Bulldogs in the annual Egg Bowl. Ole Miss has won four of the last five meetings.

Ole Miss also pulled in four-star wide receiver Winston Watkins, while a few prospects headed elsewhere. The Rebels’ transfer-portal activity is about to pick up, too.

The College Football Playoff committee all but assured Tuesday night Ole Miss is going to be left out of the 12-team field following championship weekend.

“It’s a lot easier when you just have to get up for two games a year,” fifth-year Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin said.

The No. 13-ranked Rebels have no one to blame but themselves. 

Ole Miss was four plays away from 12-0. At least South Carolina was ranked behind the Rebels and isn’t making it in either. Head-to-head still matters at least a little. Clemson is the Gamecocks’ best win. They lost to both Ole Miss and Alabama. Of course they’re out.

Ole Miss was never going to win a 9-3 argument with Alabama and a worse strength of schedule. 

At least the Rebels licked their wounds with a Wednesday spent signing the best high school recruiting class in Kiffin’s five Ole Miss seasons.

Good thing, too. The wide receiver room is now further depleted following the departure of Juice Wells.

Ole Miss signed, among others, five-star Caleb Cunningham and four-star Winston Watkins. Cunningham is the nation’s No. 3 overall wide receiver, according to On3, as well as the No. 1 player in Mississippi.

Ole Miss will be active at the position in the portal, too.

The Ole Miss football regular season came to an end with the Rebels’ 26-14 win over in-state rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl. 

The Rebels have won five of their last four meetings with the Bulldogs. 

Ole Miss awaits its College Football Playoff fate. All the while the Rebels are looking to put the finishing touches on their 2025 high-school recruiting class. The first of two signing days is Wednesday (December 4). 

The transfer portal is already churning, too. Georgia CB Julian Humphrey is in. Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown is rumored to be considering a jump, too. Ole Miss would have interest in both players. Humphrey would be a plug-and-play replacement for Tre Amos. Brown could help offset the losses of Tre Harris and Jordan Watkins.

Ole Miss finally dusted off its Bentley on Black Friday. 

The predictable result? Ulysses and Co. rolled to their fourth win in five seasons over rival Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl.

The No. 14-ranked Rebels finish the regular season 9-3 (5-3 SEC) and now turn to hopeful results elsewhere to boost their slim College Football Playoff chances.

The Ole Miss Spirit’s Ben Garrett has full postgame reaction from the 26-14 win, including a helmet sticker for third-year quarterback Jaxson Dart. Dart confirmed in his postgame comments he’s played his final game inside Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.

Bentley, IV, received an unexpectedly-busy home sendoff. 

He was the team leader in carries (20) and rushing yards (136). Bentley, IV, burst free for an 89-yard touchdown — the longest run in the SEC this season. 

He’s now responsible for the Rebels’ two longest runs of the year. Bentley, IV, had a 50-yarder at LSU. 

Which, again, makes his usage in 2024 all the more perplexing. 

The Spirit pressed Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin earlier this week about Bentley, IV, specifically. Now we only have more questions after Kiffin FINALLY let his Bentley out of the garage.
