Accountability is a powerful motivational force. Feeling accountable to someone is a major driver of behaviour for many people. We said we will do it, so we want to keep our word, not embarrass ourselves, preserve our integrity or whatever else is driving us towards the result. Most people work well with deadlines. Sometimes it is enough for a client to have the next session booked in to feel accountable. But there is a lto more we can do as a coach to harvest the power of accountability in our coaching. However, there are also downsides around key issues such as dependency, responsibility or or how it may affect the coach-client relationship, so we need to tread carefully when using accountability in our coaching. In today’s episode we’ll be talking about the benefits and pitfalls of working with accountability as a coach.

Or you’ve prepared for your coaching session and blocked the time in your calendar, perhaps even said "no" to other clients or friends, but then your client cancels at short notice. How do you deal with this kind of scenario? We’re here to shed some light on what’s important to consider when this happens to you and offer some practical suggestions in how to deal with these situations.

One of the most frequently asked questions of coaches who are just starting out is whether they need a very specific niche in order to be successful at signing up new clients. Some coaches will argue that it’s best to niche as narrow as you can, so that your clients know you’re speaking directly to them. Others will tell you that they are simply “life coaches” and they work with anyone on anything and operate successfully. And then there’s anything in between. So it’s a confusing subject and today we’re trying to shed some light on it, talk about the various ways in which we might niche and discuss the question of whether we need a niche at all when running a coaching business.

Some coaches take copious notes during their coaching sessions. Others never write anything down. Many write reflections after their coaching sessions to keep track of actions, achievements or specific contexts that they then review before the next meeting. In this episode we discuss note taking and how it can aid or hinder the coaching process and relationship.

Some coaches work session by session on a pay-as-you-go basis. Most coaches, however, work with their clients as part of a series of sessions packaged together and sold as a unit. Some call it their coaching programme, coaching offer, coaching journey or coaching package. The question we are discussing in this episode is how to best package your coaching sessions and whether that’s a good idea to start with as well as how you would know how many sessions a client needs to get what they want from the coaching.

The current coronavirus pandemic has shook most of us. Some coaches are busier than ever as they help clients make sense of what’s happening and transition into a new way of life or business. Others struggle severely to keep their businesses and psychological wellbeing afloat.
Over the past few weeks we’ve talked to a lot of coaches about what we can do to help our communities, how we can serve our clients in this time of need, tips and techniques for our businesses and a whole range of other topics to help coaches and clients navigate this crisis.
Join us for a special edition of Talking about Coaching in 3 parts. If you have anything to contribute please don’t hesitate to make your voice heard. And if you’ve got any follow up questions, we’re open to another special.
All our best wishes for you and your clients!

An interesting challenge we come across in our work as coaches is when our client talks so much we barely get a word in. How can we coach them to keep them focused and on track without (rudely?) interrupting them or missing out on important information?
In this episode our resident coaches Yannick, Siawash and Nicki talk about ways in which we can contract to interrupt, how important it is to frame our coaching space and agree on how we work with out clients and how we can respectfully get a foot in the door of our clients' growth.
