  • BONUS: Buffalo Bills Mock Draft (Version 3.0)

On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for the third of six weekly Buffalo Bills mock draft podcast episodes every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29. Unlike the first two versions, this Bills mock permits trades.

As always, the computer simulates the other 31 teams and Aaron makes each Buffalo selection in real time. Prior to making the selections the guys reflect on the first two Bills mocks and what they liked and didn't like about how things played out.  They also examine two positions, cornerback and defensive end that the Bills arguably have a high draft need for and how those positions have little to consensus at this point.  For the first time, Patrick also brings up the possibility of selecting a wide receiver early in the draft, something he's balked at even discussing in previous mocks.

To say the draft board doesn't play out the way the guys hoped in round one is an understatement, leading them to select a guy neither is initially happy with.  They then move up into the second round for a defensive lineman and find a guy in the third they think could challenge for a starting spot on the offensive line.

  • Melody Martin Talks Sabres & Live Game Night Experience

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a conversation with popular YouTube content creator and Buffalo Sabres superfan Melody Martin about her favorite team, her Sabres videos that have a strong presence on YouTube and her game night experience at Key Bank Center this past Saturday.

For the first time all season, a limited amount (10% of capacity) were allowed into a Sabres home game last weekend.   Melody, along with her mother and cousin were among them.  Melody details what the process and experience was like, including a required app for fully vaccinated attendees, other protocols at the admission gate, what is was like being scattered throughout the arena and forgetting about everything else when Victor Olofsson scored late in the third period (a goal that she actually missed seeing).

She also talks about her YouTube channel and some of its content, including a take on “Driver’s License” that steps away from wit and humor and paints the picture of a deeply frustrated Sabres fans.

The song is played on the podcast before the interview.

They also spend a few minutes talking about the team, including the undeniable impact that firing Ralph Krueger has had of late, the significance of better backup goaltending, the improved contributions of younger players and a guess on if Jack Eichel is going to want to stick around for this continued rebuild.

You can follow Melody on Twitter@MelodyNMartinand definitely be sure to subscribe to her YouTube channel, which includes all of her music and Sabres reactions.

  • Casual Friday: Kickin' Bass, Covid Shots & Comedians

On today’s future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, it’s “Casual Friday” and Patrick is joined once again by 26 Shirts owner and BillsMafia co-founder Del Reid to discuss a variety of topics focused on Buffalo and fun pop culture stuff.

The Buffalo Sabres finally ended their winless streak at 18 games, defeating the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday night. Patrick discusses how he expected to meet the victory with sarcasm but genuinely felt good for the players and coaches to get the monkey off their back.  He talks about how playing well over their last 21 games could help the culture with younger players and potential offseason acquisitions.  Meanwhile, Del’s happy for the victory but hasn’t been watching much, admittedly in part because they’ve been so lousy.

One franchise that hasn’t been lousy is the Buffalo Bills.  The guys talk about a far less stressful offseason because of Josh Allen’s ascension and continue the debate on over if drafting a running back with their first pick would be a good decision.

They also highlight this week’s 26 Shirts campaign, “Kickin’ Bass” to benefit an ill Shaun Sterner. This shirt was influenced and modeled by Bills kicker Tyler Bass.  (You can purchase the shirt here)

Before finishing up they hit their weekly segments.  We learn a valuable lesson about Instagram and the historical success of the Bee Gee’s in “Today’s Years Old.”  They also discuss results from a poll about former Bills stadium names and draft their “Starting Five” of all-time great comedians.

You can follow Del on Twitter @DelReidand of course be sure to check out 26shirts.comfor the latest shirts for sales and campaigns it helps benefit.

  • BONUS: Buffalo Bills Mock Draft (Version 2.0)

On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for the second of six weekly Buffalo Bills mock draft podcast episodes every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29.

The mock drafts are done in real time, with the computer simulating picks for the other 31 teams on TheDraftNetwork.com.

Before moving to this current mock the guys spend some time digesting last week’s, an exercise that saw Aaron select running back Travis Etienne in the first round and interior offensive lineman Landon Dickerson in the second.  The Bills signed running back Matt Brieda last week and they discuss if that acquisition would have any impact on a Brandon Beane decision to select a running back early.

They also spend a few minutes discussing getting a few players that can have an impact right away versus guys who may take longer to see the field, and Aaron concludes that a good rookie guard should be capable of unseating incumbent Jon Feliciano right away.

Then the new mock starts and the guys are frustrated that several prospects they had earmarked at pick No. 30 ended up being off the board, prompting them to conclude they were prefer trading up.

This ends up being an extremely defense-heavy mock draft exercise, with the first five picks all being on the defensive side of the ball. Aaron lands on a cornerback at No. 30 (Eric Stokes) that could start from day one, a defensive end in the second round (Carlos Basham) capable of being a part of the rotation early and the same defensive tackles (Tyler Shelvin) in round three that they took in the first mock draft.

They also double down at defensive end, add a safety, local college running back and a receiver to round out the selections.

The guys agree that trades will be on the table for the third mock draft coming next Wednesday.

  • Lance Lysowski, The Buffalo News

On this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a conversation with Lance Lysowski, Buffalo Sabres beat reporter at The Buffalo News on a myriad of topics trying to explain how this latest Sabres season yet again completely fell off the rails.

The Sabres are the worst team in the NHL and about to spend an entire decade  without seeing a single playoff game.  Lance takes off the kiddie gloves and lets loose on many of the reasons spanning the head coach, the organization as a whole and most of the players.

They also examine if Rasmus Dahlin is broken, if Jack Eichel will want a trade this offseason, if Linus Ullmark should be the number-one goaltender going forward and who he thinks would be a great fit to be the next Sabres head coach.

Before that, Patrick pries out of Lance his favorite spot for wings now that he’s been in Buffalo for a few years and they discuss some of the personal and professional challenges of working through Covid as well addressing the perception that covering a professional sports team that completely sucks is not a fun job to have.

    All that and MUCH more.

  • BONUS: Anthony Marino (Buffalo Rumblings) Talks Bills & AFC East

On this bonus Monday episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran has a conversation with Anthony Marino of Buffalo Rumblings about the Buffalo Bills offseason team building as well as the rest of the AFC East.

Anthony discusses his surprise at Brandon Beane’s ability to re-sign Matt Milano, Darryl Williams and Jon Feliciano all before free agency even began as well as thoughts on several of the additions and subtractions over the past few weeks. He also gives his thoughts on whether signing Matt Brieda will play a role in a potential decision to draft a running back in the first round and gives insight into a position that he feels is still a sneaky need for Buffalo.

The guys also go over the pair of Miami trades last week that seem to have the team poised to put good building blocks around their franchise for years to come as well as a chat on New England and if they’re going to be content to have Cam Newton remain the starter going into the regular season.

They also spend a few minutes talking about Buffalo Rumblings and more specifically the video elements to the brand they’re working on building from the ground up.

Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino and check out Buffalo Rumblings for all the latest Bills news and commentary as well as audio podcast and live streaming videos.

  • Casual Friday: Bills, Sabres & Best TV Comedies of All-Time

It’s Casual Friday on this episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast as Patrick Moran is joined by Del Reid, owner of 26 Shirts and co-originator of BillsMafia for their weekly chat to discuss all things Buffalo and beyond.

The Buffalo Bills made a few moves since the guys last spoke, signing Mitch Trubisky and Efe Obada as well as re-signing Isaiah McKenzie.  Del has a few thoughts on each and Patrick asks him if he’s in cruise control/trust the process mode at this point entering the draft next month. Spoiler alert--- Del is.

Meanwhile the Buffalo Sabres continue to be the laughingstock of not just the National Hockey League but all of sports at this point. The guys try to make a little sense of it.  Spoiler alert---they can't.

Also, Del discusses the latest 26 Shirts campaign, one very personal to him as well as well as a conversation about the emotional toll that being in this type of work can have over time.

They also spend time on their regular weekly segments and Patrick admits embarrassment after getting crushed by Del Reid among poll voters over last week’s “Favorite 80’s Movies” category that saw him net less than seven percent of the vote on Twitter.  This week they’re doing a Mt. Rushmore of “Favorite TV Comedies of All-Time” and also continue their weekly “Today’s Years Old” where we learn a fun fact about zip codes as well as alcohol ice cream?  Plus, did Michael Keaton or Tom Hanks have a better run of 80's movies?  All this and much more.

  • BONUS: Buffalo Bills Mock Draft (Version 1.0)

On this bonus episode of Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran hosts friend and recurring guest Aaron Quinn (Cover 1) for what will be the first of six weekly Buffalo Bills mock drafts every Wednesday leading up to the actual NFL draft that begins April 29.

The mock drafts are done in real time, with the computer simulating picks for the other 31 teams on TheDraftNetwork.com.

Before discussing the Bills and diving into draft prospects and scenarios, the guys spend some time discussing two teams in Buffalo’s division slotted to draft in the top three and if they move on from their current quarterbacks, Sam Darnold and Tua Togovailoa respectively.  Patrick thinks one will be traded on or before the draft.

They also spend some time discussing the Bills biggest positional needs going to the draft and where they may be looking to go with early picks if the roster essentially stands as it does now. It ultimately leads to pseudo Bills general manager Aaron Quinn selecting a running back with the 30th overall pick.

The guys also land on Buffalo adding interior offensive line, defensive tackle, wide receiver, safety, defensive end and cornerback with their other picks.

An interesting development during the draft leads the guys, particularly Patrick to realizing Buffalo may be well served to add a veteran defensive end over the next five weeks.

Again, this is the first of six weekly Bills mock draft installments and each time the rules will be a little different.  This mock featured a “no trades” policy.  That may not be the case next week.  Stay tuned!

  • Barry McCockiner Returns

On this episode of the future-awarding winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, Patrick Moran welcomes back controversial social media figure, sports hot take machine and unapologetic Tom Brady hater Barry McCockiner to the podcast to discuss a variety of topics.

The guys spend considerable time talking about the Buffalo Bills and Barry admits surprise to how far the team went in 2020 and particularly the play of Josh Allen. He credits the cast around him as well and discusses that for Buffalo’s winning to be sustainable it’s imperative to draft well and keep surrounding Allen with talent, something Barry points out Seattle and Green Bay haven’t done enough and a reason Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson haven’t won more rings.

They also spend chatting up the AFC east and discussing if Miami and the New York Jets should move on from Tua Tagovailoa and Sam Darnold respectively to select rookies at the top of next month’s draft as well as Barry’s conclusion that Cam Newton stinks and New England won’t ever be good as long as he’s the starter.

Of course, no podcast featuring Barry would be complete without a Tom Brady burial, and that’s exactly what Barry delivers---for 16 consecutive minutes.

They also talk podcasting, putting together YouTube videos, why Barry thinks Cardi B is disgusting and much more.

  • Beane The Builder, Emanuel Sanders & Favorite 80's Movies

On today’s episode of the future award-winning Talking Buffalo Podcast, it’s #DelFriday as Patrick Moran is joined for his weekly Friday conversation with Del Reid, owner of 26 Shirts and co-founder of the BillsMafia movement.

As usual, the guys chat up a variety of topics.  They discuss the latest 26 Shirts campaign,” Beane the Builder” and leads to Patrick asking Del to take him through the beginning to end process of a normal 26 Shirts campaign.

Of course they spend some time talking Buffalo Bills and react to the signings of Emanuel Sanders and Matt Haack as well as the departures of the guys they’re replacing, John Brown and Corey Boroquez.  They also discuss the extremely aggressive offseason of the New England Patriots and if they’ve gained significant ground on the Bills.

They wrap up a few regular weekly segments, discussing the results of a poll asking what’s been the best Bills unrestricted free agent signing of the Brandon Beane/Sean McDermott era while “I was today’s years old” has a continuation story of a chiropractor and the last open Blockbuster in the United States. They finish with this week’s “Del Fave Five”, a listing of each’s five favorite movies from the 80s.
