  • Six Questions That Could Decide The Bills’ Fate (Featuring Chris Trapasso)

Patrick Moran is joined by Chris Trapasso of Buffalo Rumblings and the Bills Radio Network for a wide-ranging conversation ahead of Buffalo's regular-season opener in Houston.

Chris discusses his new role working alongside former Bills center Mitch Morse on the Bills Radio Network, the adjustment from being a guest and analyst to driving pregame and postgame coverage, and his career resurgence after leaving CBS Sports.

From there, Patrick and Chris examine six major questions that could ultimately determine the Buffalo Bills' fate in 2026.

    Key Takeaways
    • Can Buffalo trust its CB2 situation? Christian Benford provides stability, but Maxwell Hairston's development and the depth behind him remain important storylines. Chris explains why he's more optimistic about Hairston than some observers and why his athletic traits could fit Jim Leonhard's defense.
    • What will Buffalo get from its linebackers? Terrel Bernard's health and ability to return to his playmaking form are major factors, while Dorian Williams and rookie Caleb Lazenby give Buffalo intriguing options. Chris explains why Leonhard's defensive system could make life easier for the linebackers.
    • Can the Bills consistently pressure quarterbacks? Buffalo's sack production has declined over the past two seasons. Bradley Chubb, rookie T.J. Parker and a more aggressive defensive philosophy could help change that, even if the Bills don't have one obvious 15-sack superstar.
    • Can Keon Coleman be trusted? Patrick and Chris discuss realistic expectations for Coleman and whether Buffalo should stop viewing production through the lens of his draft position. Instead of forcing him into a featured role, the Bills may be better served letting Coleman contribute as a blocker and situational receiving option.
    • Will the offensive line remain a strength? Buffalo has enjoyed tremendous continuity and durability up front, but Alec Anderson becoming a starter, Aaron Kromer's departure, Dion Dawkins' age and Connor McGovern's recent injury history introduce more uncertainty than in previous seasons.
    • How will Joe Brady handle the biggest moments? Brady's aggressiveness, situational decision-making and ability to balance being the head coach with calling the offense could become one of the defining factors of Buffalo's season—especially when the Bills reach high-pressure games.
Bills vs. Texans — Keys to Victory

Chris breaks down what Buffalo needs to do to finally find success in Houston.

Stay committed to James Cook. Buffalo can't abandon the running game too quickly, especially after Cook led the NFL in rushing last season and has proven capable of creating explosive plays.

Use play action and protect Josh Allen. Houston's pass rush can create major problems if Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter are allowed to attack obvious passing situations.

Pressure C.J. Stroud. Chris wants to see Jim Leonhard stay aggressive, use creative blitz packages and force Stroud to speed up his internal clock rather than allowing him to comfortably attack from the pocket.

    Also Discussed

Chris talks about building on-air chemistry with Mitch Morse, becoming the driver of the Bills' pregame and postgame radio shows, his work with Buffalo Rumblings and how he responded professionally after his departure from CBS Sports.

The guys also discuss T.J. Parker's development, Terrel Bernard's potential bounce-back season, Buffalo's changing defensive identity under Jim Leonhard, Dion Dawkins' importance and the Bills' recent struggles playing in Houston.

  • Bills 2026 Predictions: Breakouts, Disappointments & Unsung Heroes

Patrick Moran is joined by Steve Bermel for a prediction-heavy episode of Talking Buffalo, handing out their Buffalo Bills 2026 season awards approximately five months before anyone actually earns them.

Before diving into the awards, Patrick and Steve discuss the Bills’ difficult Week 1 matchup against the Houston Texans, why opening the season against an elite Houston defense could actually have some advantages, and what to expect from Jim Leonhard’s new-look Buffalo defense. They also discuss the passing of longtime hockey personality Barry Melrose and react to some early NFL action.

Then it’s time to predict which Bills players will rise, disappoint, break out and become indispensable during the 2026 season.

    Buffalo Bills 2026 Award Predictions

Team MVP — Not Named Josh Allen:
Patrick and Steve both land on James Cook. Even if Cook doesn't duplicate his massive rushing production from last season, both believe his ability as a runner and potentially expanded impact in the passing game make him Buffalo's most important player outside of Josh Allen.

Offensive MVP — Not Allen or Cook:
Steve goes with DJ Moore, believing Buffalo finally has a receiver capable of becoming Allen's go-to target. Patrick takes Dalton Kincaid, predicting that a healthy Kincaid can become one of the offense's biggest matchup problems and potentially produce a career season.

    Defensive MVP:
Steve picks Ed Oliver, believing his ability to disrupt games from the interior could flourish in the new defensive system. Patrick goes with Cole Bishop, predicting a major breakout as Jim Leonhard moves the young safety around the defense and allows him to play more aggressively.

    Rookie of the Year:
Both Patrick and Steve select TJ Parker, expecting the rookie defensive end to earn meaningful snaps immediately and establish himself as a dependable part of Buffalo's defensive-line rotation.

    Best Game of the Year:
Steve circles Buffalo's Christmas Day matchup against Denver, complete with revenge implications, playoff positioning and the Bills' red helmets. Patrick predicts the Bills-Rams Monday Night Football matchup will become an offensive shootout — and potentially a preview of the Super Bowl.

    Worst Game of the Year:
Steve predicts a frustrating late-season road loss against New England, while Patrick thinks Buffalo's opener in Houston could become the season's most unpleasant game — particularly because of the massive overreaction that would follow a Bills loss.

Bounce Back Player of the Year:
Patrick picks Terrel Bernard, believing better health and a more aggressive defensive philosophy could help the linebacker rediscover his impact. Steve selects Dalton Kincaid, expecting him to finally move beyond the injuries that have limited him and become a major part of Buffalo's passing attack.

    Most Pleasant Surprise:
Steve predicts Buffalo finally captures the AFC's No. 1 seed, earning the coveted first-round playoff bye. Patrick goes with rookie cornerback Davison Igbinosun, believing he could eventually emerge as a legitimate young starter in the secondary.

    Most Unpleasant Surprise:
Patrick predicts Buffalo will suffer a frustrating Monday Night Football road loss to Minnesota. Steve goes in a completely different direction, predicting Tyler Bass will struggle enough that the Bills eventually make a change at kicker.

    Breakout Player of the Year:
Steve selects Michael Hoecht, hoping the flashes he showed before last year's Achilles injury turn into sustained production. Patrick is extremely bullish on Deone Walker, predicting the defensive tackle could emerge as one of Buffalo's best front-seven players.

    Most Disappointing Player:
Patrick puts the spotlight on Maxwell Hairston, saying the former first-round pick needs to prove him wrong after an injury-filled and underwhelming summer. Steve chooses Keon Coleman, expressing serious doubts that the former high draft pick will develop into the receiver Buffalo hoped it was getting.

    Unsung Hero:
Steve goes with Christian Benford, believing Buffalo's top corner could quietly erase opposing receivers while the pass rush receives most of the attention. Patrick selects Khalil Shakir, predicting a bigger role downfield and a potential 75–80 catch season that establishes Shakir among the NFL's better slot receivers.

    Key Takeaways
    • James Cook is the consensus non-Josh Allen MVP candidate, with both Patrick and Steve expecting another major season from Buffalo's star running back.
    • Dalton Kincaid could be poised for a significant rebound if he finally remains healthy for an entire season.
    • Jim Leonhard's defense is one of Buffalo's biggest wild cards, with Cole Bishop, Ed Oliver, Deone Walker and several young defensive backs potentially benefiting from a more aggressive scheme.
    • Buffalo's young draft picks have plenty to prove, particularly TJ Parker, Davison Igbinosun and Maxwell Hairston.
    • Keon Coleman and Tyler Bass enter the season under pressure, with Patrick and Steve questioning whether both can deliver what Buffalo needs from them.
    Also Discussed

Patrick and Steve debate whether it's better for Buffalo to face a powerhouse defense like Houston immediately rather than later in the season. With a new Bills offense and Jim Leonhard defense that Houston hasn't seen on film, there may be some Week 1 advantages despite the difficult matchup.

The guys also get sidetracked into one of the show's more important debates: Is eating sauced chicken fingers with a fork and knife acceptable? Patrick emphatically defends the practice while discussing his latest Fingers & Fries stop at Doc Sullivan's.

  • Buffalo Bills Position-by-Position: Strengths, Concerns & Questions

It’s officially game week, and the Buffalo Bills are preparing to open their season on the road against the Houston Texans. Patrick Moran is joined by Matt Warren of Buffalo Rumblings/SB Nation for a comprehensive position-by-position examination of the Bills roster and where confidence stands heading into Week 1.

The guys start with Josh Allen and the quarterback room, including why Allen enters the season with enormous expectations and whether he could produce the best statistical season of his career. They also discuss the concerns behind Allen at backup quarterback.

From there, Patrick and Matt work through the entire Bills offense. James Cook leads a deep and clearly defined running back room, while the arrival of DJ Moore gives Buffalo a potentially dangerous collection of receivers alongside Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Josh Palmer. The tight end room may be one of Buffalo’s biggest strengths, especially if Dalton Kincaid stays healthy and Jackson Hawes emerges as a legitimate offensive contributor.

The offensive line has plenty of continuity, but questions remain about Alec Anderson stepping into the starting lineup, Dion Dawkins’ performance as he gets older and whether the depth is strong enough if Buffalo’s recent run of good health ends.

Defensively, there’s plenty of upside but also considerably more uncertainty. Patrick and Matt examine the potential of Deone Walker and Ed Oliver on the interior, Buffalo’s revamped edge group, the importance of improving the run defense and whether the Bills have enough pure pass-rushing juice to consistently finish plays with sacks.

Linebacker may be the biggest question mark on the roster. Terrel Bernard’s health, Dorian Williams’ consistency and rookie Caleb Ransaw’s potential are all discussed before the conversation shifts to the secondary. Christian Benford provides stability at corner, but Buffalo’s CB2 situation and boundary depth remain legitimate concerns.

At safety, there’s considerable excitement surrounding Cole Bishop and C.J. Gardner-Johnson, along with curiosity about how Jim Leonhard will deploy his new defensive pieces.

The episode also looks ahead to Buffalo’s difficult Week 1 matchup in Houston. Patrick makes the bold prediction that Bills-Texans could be an AFC Championship Game preview, while the pressure facing both Josh Allen and C.J. Stroud is examined.

Finally, the guys discuss whether the Kansas City Chiefs dynasty is fading and put their preseason predictions on record. Both ultimately land on a Bills-Rams Super Bowl, with Buffalo winning it all.

    Key Takeaways
    • Josh Allen enters the season with championship-level expectations. Patrick believes Allen could have the best season of his career, but ultimately his legacy will continue to be judged heavily by whether Buffalo finally reaches and wins a Super Bowl.
    • Buffalo's offense may have its deepest collection of weapons in years. DJ Moore joins Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Josh Palmer, while Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox and Jackson Hawes give the Bills significant flexibility at tight end.
    • The defense offers exciting upside but more uncertainty. Deone Walker could emerge as a legitimate star, while Buffalo’s revamped edge group should be better against the run. The question is whether the Bills have a true difference-making pass rusher capable of consistently finishing at the quarterback.
    • Linebacker and CB2 stand out as major areas to watch. Terrel Bernard’s health, Dorian Williams’ play, Caleb Ransaw’s development and the uncertainty opposite Christian Benford could significantly influence how quickly Jim Leonhard’s new defense comes together.
    • Patrick and Matt are buying Buffalo as a legitimate Super Bowl team. Houston is viewed as a potential AFC Championship opponent, while both ultimately predict the Bills will defeat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl.
    Biggest Storylines Discussed

Bills vs. Texans in Week 1
Houston’s elite defense represents an immediate test for Buffalo. Patrick believes playing Houston immediately could actually benefit the Bills because opponents don’t yet have regular-season film on Buffalo’s new offensive wrinkles.

    Josh Allen’s Legacy Season
Allen has accomplished virtually everything individually except reaching a Super Bowl. The discussion examines whether this is finally the season he clears that hurdle and silences much of the criticism surrounding his postseason résumé.

    Buffalo’s Offensive Weapons
The addition of DJ Moore changes the complexion of the receiving corps and potentially allows the rest of Buffalo’s receivers to settle into roles better suited to their strengths.

    Jim Leonhard’s New Defense
Buffalo has new personnel and increased versatility at several positions. The potential is exciting, but how quickly the players become comfortable enough to play fast rather than think through assignments remains an important early-season question.

    Is Kansas City’s Dynasty Ending?
Patrick and Matt discuss whether the Chiefs have slipped behind teams such as Buffalo and Denver in the AFC hierarchy. Matt isn’t ready to declare the dynasty over, but sees Kansas City in a transitional period with legitimate concerns surrounding Patrick Mahomes’ supporting cast and Travis Kelce.

  • 10 Buffalo Bills Predictions That Will Define 2026

The Buffalo Bills are ready to kick off the 2026 NFL season, and Patrick Moran is putting 10 bold predictions on the table before the games begin.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick forecasts what could be ahead for Josh Allen, James Cook, Terrel Bernard, Cole Bishop and several other key Bills players. Could Allen produce the best statistical season of his career? Can Cook lead the entire NFL in yards per carry? And could Bishop emerge as the best player on Buffalo's defense?

Patrick also discusses why Ray Davis could surpass Ty Johnson in the running back pecking order, why Buffalo's second-round cornerback could eventually take over the CB2 job and why there are reasons to expect some serious growing pains from the Bills defense under Jim Leonhard.

Not every prediction is optimistic. Patrick explains his concerns about Tyler Bass and why veteran kicker Matt Prater could find himself back in Buffalo before the season is over.

Plus, Patrick makes his prediction for who scores Buffalo's first touchdown of the 2026 season against Houston before finishing with his biggest prediction of all: Buffalo Bills vs. Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LXI.

    Key Takeaways
    • Josh Allen could have a career year: Patrick predicts Allen will surpass his career highs in passing yards, passing touchdowns and total touchdowns as Buffalo leans more heavily on its passing attack.
    • James Cook remains extremely efficient: Cook may not repeat as the NFL rushing champion, but Patrick predicts he'll lead the league in yards per carry.
    • Cole Bishop's breakout is coming: Bishop is predicted to emerge as the best player on Buffalo's defense, with Jim Leonhard's system potentially unlocking his versatility and playmaking ability.
    • Changes could be coming at CB2 and kicker: Buffalo's second-round rookie cornerback is predicted to eventually take over the CB2 job, while Patrick questions whether Tyler Bass will finish the season with the Bills.
    • Super Bowl prediction: Patrick predicts the Bills will finally break through in the AFC and face the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LXI at SoFi Stadium.
    10 Bold Bills Predictions
    1. Josh Allen has the best statistical season of his NFL career.
    2. Terrel Bernard has a major bounce-back season.
    3. James Cook leads the NFL in yards per carry.
    4. Ray Davis finishes with more rushing yards than Ty Johnson.
    5. Cole Bishop becomes widely regarded as Buffalo's best defensive player.
    6. Buffalo's second-round rookie cornerback eventually takes over the CB2 job.
    7. The Bills defense allows 30+ points in more than five games.
    8. Tyler Bass doesn't finish the season with Buffalo, and Matt Prater returns.
    9. Jackson Hawes scores the Bills' first touchdown of the 2026 season.
    10. Bills vs. Rams becomes the Super Bowl LXI matchup.
    Also Discussed

Patrick looks ahead to Buffalo's difficult Week 1 matchup against the Houston Texans and discusses concerns surrounding the availability of Khalil Shakir and Ty Johnson. He also touches on former Bills Taylor Rapp and Zion Logue landing on practice squads and previews a busy week of Talking Buffalo episodes featuring Matt Warren and Tyler Dunne.

  • Bills 2026 Season Predictions & Superlatives

The 2026 NFL season is finally here, and on this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by Joe From Queens for one of their favorite annual traditions: Buffalo Bills season predictions and superlatives.

Patrick and Joe work their way through a huge collection of Bills-related questions, making their official calls on everything from Josh Allen’s passing production and James Cook’s rushing numbers to DJ Moore’s impact, Dalton Kincaid’s potential breakout and whether Keon Coleman can take a meaningful step forward.

The guys debate whether Buffalo's offense will become more aggressive through the air under Joe Brady, including whether Allen gets back over 4,000 passing yards and accounts for at least 40 total touchdowns. They also discuss expectations for Khalil Shakir, Ray Davis, Dawson Knox and several other offensive weapons.

On defense, there’s plenty of discussion about what could change with Jim Leonhard running the unit. Patrick and Joe debate whether Greg Rousseau can finally become a double-digit sack player, what Bradley Chubb can bring to Buffalo's pass rush and whether the Bills will generate more pressure by playing a more aggressive defensive style.

There’s also plenty of conversation about Buffalo's young players and newcomers, including Maxwell Hairston, TJ Parker, Jackson Hawes and other potential breakout or surprise contributors.

Eventually the predictions turn toward the biggest question of all: Is this finally the year the Buffalo Bills get back to the Super Bowl?

Patrick is buying in. He believes Josh Allen, DJ Moore and a more aggressive Buffalo defense can finally help the Bills break through the AFC and predicts a Bills-Rams Super Bowl. Joe isn't quite as optimistic, predicting Buffalo once again reaches the AFC Championship Game but falls short, with Denver advancing to face the Rams instead.

The episode wraps with individual Bills superlatives, including predictions for Rookie of the Year, Offensive MVP, Defensive MVP, biggest breakout player, biggest surprise and potential disappointments. Patrick backs James Cook as Buffalo's top offensive player outside of Allen, while Joe goes with DJ Moore.

    Key Takeaways
    • Expect a more aggressive Bills passing attack. Both Patrick and Joe predict Josh Allen will surpass 4,000 passing yards, while DJ Moore is expected to immediately become a major piece of Buffalo's offense.
    • James Cook may run less but remain incredibly valuable. Neither expects Cook to repeat his league-leading 1,621 rushing yards, but Patrick believes increased involvement in the passing game could make Cook Buffalo's offensive MVP outside of Allen.
    • Keon Coleman remains one of Buffalo's biggest question marks. Both are skeptical that Coleman reaches 650 receiving yards, with Patrick emphasizing that Coleman needs to make important plays when opportunities come rather than simply accumulate statistics.
    • Buffalo's defense could look much different. Jim Leonhard's more aggressive approach could produce additional sacks and pressure, although Patrick and Joe disagree on whether Greg Rousseau finally reaches double-digit sacks.
    • Patrick believes Buffalo finally breaks through. His official prediction is the Bills reaching the Super Bowl against the Los Angeles Rams, while Joe predicts another painful AFC Championship Game exit and a Denver-Rams Super Bowl.
    Players & Topics Discussed

Josh Allen, James Cook, DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, Ray Davis, Jackson Hawes, Greg Rousseau, Bradley Chubb, Ed Oliver, Terrel Bernard, Maxwell Hairston, TJ Parker, Jim Leonhard, Joe Brady, Sean McDermott and more.

The guys also discuss the early criticism surrounding the new Bills stadium, including the playing surface and other offseason PR issues, Sean McDermott's comments about rooting for Buffalo to win the Super Bowl, Joe's growing Joe From Queens website/Substack, and what winning a championship would actually mean to lifelong Bills fans.

  • Will Groot Finally Hit Double Digit Sacks? (The Podbag)

Football is almost back, and on this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran turns the show over to the audience for a Buffalo Bills-themed Podbag, responding to questions, comments and takes submitted by listeners on YouTube and social media.

With Week 1 against the Houston Texans approaching, Patrick starts with some growing concern surrounding Khalil Shakir’s injury and what his continued absence from practice could mean for the Bills offense. He also discusses Jordan Hancock’s status and potential contingency plans if Buffalo enters the opener short-handed.

From there, Patrick dives into several listener-driven Bills topics, including why he was so invested in keeping young cornerback Denzel “Can I” Walker in the organization. Patrick explains why developing a raw prospect can be valuable even if that player isn't ready to contribute immediately, using Alec Anderson’s development as an example.

The Podbag also tackles Greg Rousseau and whether this could finally be the season he reaches double-digit sacks. Patrick explains why Rousseau’s value shouldn’t be measured strictly by sack totals and why his run defense, edge-setting ability, pressures and impact in critical situations matter just as much.

There’s also plenty of discussion surrounding rookie edge rusher T.J. Parker. Patrick responds to criticism of the Bills’ first-round pick, explains why it’s far too early to label Parker a mistake and revisits some of the other prospects he personally preferred during the draft.

Max Hairston remains another major topic. Patrick pushes back against the idea that Hairston is already “toast,” while also explaining why concerns over his physicality, tackling and early performance shouldn’t simply be dismissed. Could Buffalo eventually rotate Hairston with IGB depending on matchups?

Plus, Patrick reconsiders his stance on whether the Bills should receive or defer after winning the coin toss, wonders who Buffalo’s emergency long snapper would be behind Reid Ferguson, gives his thoughts on the controversial Nickel City uniforms, talks about Buffalo-area restaurants he wishes would make a comeback and previews much more Bills coverage as the regular season arrives.

    Key Takeaways
    • Khalil Shakir’s health is becoming something to monitor as Week 1 approaches, especially if he remains sidelined when Buffalo begins its regular-season practice schedule.
    • Greg Rousseau doesn’t need double-digit sacks to have a strong season. His run defense, pressures, edge-setting and ability to impact critical downs remain major parts of his value.
    • It’s far too early to judge T.J. Parker. While he wasn’t Patrick’s preferred draft choice, Parker showed improvement throughout the summer and preseason.
    • There are legitimate reasons to be concerned about Max Hairston, but declaring him a bust before the regular season begins is equally premature.
    • Developing young players matters beyond their rookie seasons, which is why keeping promising prospects in the organization can pay dividends down the road.

  • Do Or Die 2026 Campaigns For These Six Bills

The 2026 Buffalo Bills season is nearly here, and for several players on the roster, the stakes feel especially high.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran breaks down six Bills players who could be facing pivotal, potentially do-or-die seasons. Whether they're fighting to prove themselves, secure their starting job, earn a new contract or establish their long-term future in Buffalo, each has plenty riding on the upcoming campaign.

Patrick starts with Keon Coleman, who enters his third NFL season looking to put two inconsistent years behind him. After a promising summer and training camp, can Coleman finally become the reliable playmaker Buffalo envisioned when drafting him?

Dalton Kincaid also has major stakes attached to this season. Staying healthy and producing at a high level could position the talented tight end for a significant contract extension and potentially take Buffalo's already dangerous offense to another level.

At linebacker, both Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams have plenty to prove. Bernard needs to stay healthy and recapture the impact he displayed earlier in his career, while Williams could be battling not only for a starting role but also for his next NFL contract.

Then there's Tyler Bass. Buffalo has continued showing confidence in its veteran kicker, but Patrick explains why Bass may need a strong season to remain part of the team's long-term plans—and why his performance could ultimately have a huge impact on Buffalo's championship aspirations.

Finally, Patrick discusses Max Hairston and the pressure surrounding the former first-round pick. Hairston possesses elite speed and intriguing playmaking ability, but questions about injuries, physicality and consistency make his second season one worth watching closely.

Before getting into the main topic, Patrick also discusses Josh Allen finishing among the NFL Top 100's final two players and why Bills fans should appreciate having one of football's premier players in his prime.

    Key Takeaways
    • Keon Coleman faces a pivotal third season after an inconsistent first two years, but a strong 2026 could quickly change the conversation surrounding him.
    • Dalton Kincaid has major financial incentive to break out, with a healthy and productive season potentially positioning him for a lucrative extension.
    • Terrel Bernard and Dorian Williams face significant competition at linebacker, with playing time and their longer-term futures potentially at stake.
    • Tyler Bass needs to reward Buffalo's continued faith in him, especially with the possibility that a critical Bills game could eventually come down to his leg.
    • Max Hairston enters Year 2 under pressure to stay healthy, become more consistent and solidify himself as Buffalo's starting cornerback opposite Christian Benford.

    • Analyzing Some Bills Tough Decisions

Patrick Moran is joined by longtime contributor Matt Warren of SB Nation for a wide-ranging discussion about the Buffalo Bills’ initial 53-man roster, practice-squad additions and biggest surprises from the summer.

Patrick and Matt examine Buffalo’s decision to carry four tight ends without a traditional fullback, the additions of Greg Dortch, Shaq Thompson and Jedrick Wills Jr., and which young players could eventually earn meaningful roles. They also discuss Jordan Hancock’s versatility, the future of DeWayne Carter and why rookie Ahmed Hassanein-Reed Adams may have been too valuable to expose to waivers.

The episode concludes with a look at the Bills’ biggest offensive and defensive X-factors, including Dalton Kincaid, Keon Coleman, Jackson Hawes, Landon Jackson and T.J. Sanders.

      Key Takeaways
      • Buffalo’s decision to retain four tight ends could signal heavier use of two- and three-tight-end formations.
      • Greg Dortch offers potential value as a punt returner, gadget player and experienced receiver.
      • Jordan Hancock could fill a versatile role similar to Cam Lewis, contributing at nickel cornerback, dime defender and on special teams.
      • Buffalo appears willing to develop promising young players such as Ahmed Hassanein-Reed Adams and Zion Durant for future roles.
      • A healthy Dalton Kincaid could elevate an already talented Bills offense into one of the NFL’s most difficult units to defend.
      • Additional Topics Discussed
        • The launch of Buffalo Rumblings on the SB Nation app
        • Josh Allen’s latest NFL Top 100 recognition
        • Buffalo’s relatively encouraging injury situation entering Week 1
        • Frank Gore Jr. returning to the practice squad
        • Shaq Thompson providing veteran linebacker depth
        • Offensive tackle depth and the addition of Jedrick Wills Jr.
        • DeWayne Carter’s roster status and future in Buffalo
        • Brandon Beane’s potential success with the Bills’ Day 3 draft class
        • Early matchup advantages against the Houston Texans and Detroit Lions

        • Eventful Post-Cuts Day For Bills (Observations)

The Buffalo Bills’ initial 53-man roster is set, but Brandon Beane and company are far from finished shaping the team for the regular season.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran reacts to an eventful day of Bills roster news, including the return of veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson, the addition of an intriguing return specialist and the formation of Buffalo’s practice squad.

Patrick explains why Thompson could provide valuable insurance behind Terrel Bernard while also serving as a mentor for the Bills’ younger linebackers. He also discusses the possible downside of the move for promising linebacker Keyontae Jenkins.

The conversation turns to the waiver wire, where seventh-round pick Toriano Pride Jr. was claimed by the Cleveland Browns. Patrick evaluates Buffalo’s cornerback decisions and explains why he still believes the Bills took an unnecessary risk by exposing promising young cornerback Kanai Walker to waivers.

There’s also plenty of discussion about former Arizona Cardinals receiver Greg Dortch. Buffalo added Dortch to its practice squad after he was released by Detroit, and his experience as both a receiver and return specialist could quickly earn him a game-day role. With Buffalo’s punt-return situation unsettled, Dortch may become far more than a routine practice-squad addition.

Patrick also covers the return of Frank Gore Jr., Trent Sherfield, Jamari Thrash, Chase Lundt, Nick Broeker and several defensive prospects. He examines which players could eventually earn promotions to the active roster and why some rookies may benefit from a full developmental season.

Finally, Patrick discusses Ben VanSumeren joining the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad and what his departure means for Buffalo’s fullback position. Could the Bills operate without a traditional fullback, use one of their tight ends in a hybrid role or bring in someone from outside the organization?

          Key Takeaways
          • Shaq Thompson provides valuable veteran insurance: Thompson gives Buffalo an experienced option behind Terrel Bernard and could become an important mentor for the Bills’ younger linebackers.
          • Greg Dortch could earn an immediate role: His NFL receiving experience and ability to return punts and kickoffs make him one of Buffalo’s most intriguing practice-squad additions.
          • The Bills took a gamble at cornerback: Toriano Pride Jr. was claimed by Cleveland, while Kanai Walker cleared waivers and returned to Buffalo. Patrick believes Walker did enough during the summer to earn a spot on the initial roster.
          • Buffalo retained several developmental prospects: Walker, Keyontae Jenkins, Corey Couch and other young players will have opportunities to improve within the organization.
          • The fullback situation remains unresolved: With Ben VanSumeren joining Kansas City, Buffalo may enter the season without a traditional fullback or use a tight end in a hybrid role.
          • Players and Topics Discussed
            • Shaq Thompson returning to Buffalo
            • Terrel Bernard’s injury history
            • Buffalo’s young linebacker depth
            • Keyontae Jenkins’ development
            • Toriano Pride Jr. joining the Cleveland Browns
            • Kanai Walker clearing waivers
            • Greg Dortch’s receiving and return ability
            • Buffalo’s unsettled punt-return situation
            • Trent Sherfield and the wide receiver depth chart
            • Frank Gore Jr. returning to the practice squad
            • Ian Wheeler’s reported practice-squad decision
            • Offensive line depth and developmental prospects
            • Corey Couch’s positional versatility
            • Andre Jones Jr. returning to the organization
            • Geno Stone’s potential game-day role
            • Damar Hamlin’s performance and position on the depth chart
            • Ben VanSumeren joining the Kansas City Chiefs
            • Buffalo’s options at fullback
            • The evolving Bills defense under Jim Leonhard

            • Bills Cuts Show How Little Camp/Preseason Often Mean

Patrick Moran is joined by Steve Bermel to break down the Buffalo Bills’ initial 53-man roster and several surprising decisions made by Brandon Beane and the organization.

Patrick questions how much training camp and preseason performances truly matter after impressive players such as Kani Walker and Keonta Jenkins failed to make the roster. The conversation examines which players earned their spots, which cuts were most surprising and why Buffalo may not be finished reshaping the team.

They also discuss the Bills keeping four tight ends without a fullback, Ty Johnson’s value to Josh Allen, the decision to retain Dwayne Carter and the trade involving Sedrick Van Pran-Granger. On defense, Patrick and Steve debate Buffalo’s lack of proven cornerback depth, its crowded collection of edge rushers and what fans should expect from Jim Leonhard’s new aggressive defensive scheme.

The episode closes with Buffalo Sabres talk, including Connor Hellebuyck’s uncertain future in Winnipeg and whether Buffalo remains a realistic trade destination for the franchise goaltender.

              Key Takeaways

              • Strong training camp and preseason performances did not guarantee roster spots for Kani Walker or Keyontae Jenkins.
              • Buffalo’s decision to carry four tight ends and no traditional fullback could reveal how the offense plans to use its personnel.
              • Josh Allen and the Bills offense remain dependable, but the defense is the team’s biggest uncertainty.
              • Buffalo needs more consistent pressure on opposing quarterbacks and better execution in critical third-down situations.
              • A Connor Hellebuyck trade could dramatically raise the Sabres’ ceiling, although Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen’s contract situation complicates a potential deal.
              • Also Discussed

                • Ty Johnson’s role and the trust he has earned from Josh Allen
                • Dwayne Carter, Mike Danna and Buffalo’s defensive-line depth
                • Concerns surrounding the Bills’ secondary
