It’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative and topics. Patrick Moran is responding to several takes and questions, including naming his current top 10 players on the Buffalo Bills roster and loads of opinions about how the team is looking.
If you're a regular consumer of this show it's not secret that Patrick is a fan of power rankings. He likes to rank nearly everything, so it was fun to be asked to rank the 10 best players on the Bills things currently stand. Josh Allen at the top is a given but there's some player positioning and perhaps a name or two left off that may be raise a few eyebrows.
There's also several questions and comments about the roster, in part based off last weekend's preseason opening debacle at home against the Chicago Bears. The safety position may be becoming the team's biggest question mark if it wasn't already and Patrick expresses plenty of concern himself.
Plus, Javon Solomon shows some juice, MVS is doing MVS things, many who think the preseason means absolutely nothing, a few takes on the latest Bills news and plenty more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by frenemy and recurring guest Joe From Queens to discuss among other topics what, if anything should matter about evaluating a Buffalo Bills preseason game.
The Bills were manhandled in every phase of their game during their preseason opening 33-6 loss at home to Chicago. That said, there's several factors that contributed to that, ranging from key starters on the defense not playing at all, to several players admitting they didn't game plan for Chicago, not to mention the Bears already playing their second preseason game. Still, for the most part the Bills stunk and it wasn't fun to watch at all. The question is, does it matter? The guys discuss that.
Included in that conversation is Patrick feeling like nothing that he saw from the game did a single thing to alleviate any concerns he had about some positions and players going in---including the safety position, offensive line depth and the backup(s) to Josh Allen should the franchise quarterback be forced to miss a little time.
They also ponder the question that if the preseason is so meaningless and it's not worth game planning for your opponent at all, why even bother playing Allen or any established starter for that matter? That plus a few bright spots if you're going to bother evaluating the game, what they want to see going forward and much more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick has a smorgasbord of his biggest takeaways, both small and potentially large from the Buffalo Bills preseason opening dud against the Chicago Bears.
Preseason marks excitement for the return of NFL football but is often meaningless. You're especially hoping that's the case if you're a Bills fan. Surely Sean McDermott won't be in the best of mood as the team returns to practice this week and Patrick has plenty of thoughts on why he shouldn't be.
Among them is an offensive line, all three units that couldn't make a block to save their lives, especially in the running game. Again, preseason or not it's a little alarming as all five starters were with the team last year. Also, quarterback play from the moment Josh Allen departed wasn't exactly stellar, nor was the second or third team defense.
On the brighter side, we saw glimpses from the offense worthy of exciting including plays from wide receivers Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel and Keon Coleman. We also saw a solid debut from Austin Johnson on the defensive side and some flash from rookie edge rusher Javon Solomon.
That plus a few camp darlings that didn't get a chance to do much against Chicago, game awards, a look at what's ahead and much more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by friend and recurring guest Anthony Marino to discuss several takeaways from the Buffalo Bills final day of training camp, including Matt Milano looking like a man ready to play football again at a high level.
Patrick was at St. John's Fisher for the Bills 11th and final practice of training camp in Rochester, and Milano being on the field for every snap with the first team defense during every drill and looking good in doing so has him and Anthony extremely optimistic heading into preseason action beginning Saturday versus Chicago.
There's other observations Patrick took note of from practice that he shares with Anthony, including MVS smoking Christian Benford for the lone "big" play of the day, Ray Davis getting a lot of first-team offense opportunities and the pairing of the second offensive line unit.
They also discuss the biggest stock risers and fallers of Bills training camp, some national media praise on the team, starters playing on Saturday, what they're most looking forward to seeing and much more. Be sure to follow Anthony on Twitter @AnthMarino.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by PK from the Buffalo Sports Collective to discuss observations from the Buffalo Bills second-to-last practice of training camp at St. John's Fisher in addition to thoughts on the team's initial released depth chart.
The Bills hit the field for public viewing practice for the second last time on Wednesday and there's plenty of talking points from practice in addition to overall developing storylines. Among the topics discussed by the guys is James Cook having ball stability issues, Matt Milano progressing nicely, a very nice day for wide receiver KJ Hamler and Damar Hamlin looking like he could be ready to put a stranglehold on the starting free safety job for now. It wasn't all great though, as DaQuan Jones didn't practice again, this time with a groin injury after having what was disclosed as a veteran rest day earlier in the week. Is that a cause for concern?
Also, Buffalo put out it's first depth chart of the summer and while it should be absolutely taken with a grain of salt, the guys discuss a few interesting tidbits from it, including Keon Coleman being on the second string and Will Clapp currently having the nod as the backup center to Connor McGovern.
They also hit on a few things they're looking forward to seeing from Buffalo in the preseason opener Saturday versus Chicago in addition to Brandon Aiyuk having no interest in New England, one of the best trades not just in Buffalo but sports history happening 32 years to the day of this recording and much more.

It’s another edition of The Podbag today on Talking Buffalo, the weekly episode where the audience controls the narrative and topics. Patrick Moran is responding to several takes and questions, including what elements of Buffalo Bills training camp has been disappointing to him.
There's just a few practices remaining open to the public for Bills training camp at St. John's Fisher and there's been plenty to be pleased about if you're a Bills fan. Patrick's spoke of many highlights on the show regularly but today he's asked to discuss a few things that've left him wanting more and he talks about the injuries at safety, seeing very little from Marquez Valdes-Scantling and a defensive lineman that's barely been noticeable.
Patrick's also asked about and discusses why the defensive tackle position is flying a little bit under the radar after star tackle Ed Oliver. Von Miller looking far better than any point last year, Keon Coleman's basketball skills translating and possible contract extensions are also hit on in detail.
He also responds about last weeks' show with Joe Marino, the Buffalo Sabres being slept on by Joe Yerdon, acknowledging the tribal chief and much more.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran was at Buffalo Bills training camp Monday and has plenty of first-hand observations, with the focus being on a few of the underdog stories that are beginning to take shape.
Among the things that most stood out to Patrick is the continued productive play of former undrafted tight end Zach Davidson, who missed all of last season with a torn ACL. He's looked fluid in camp and seems to be catching everything while making it look effortless. He talks about the chances he has of supplanting Quintin Morris on the roster and what the fallout for that could be.
Sixth round rookie defensive back Daequan Hardy has also been impressive through parts of camp, including Monday. Patrick goes over what he saw from Hardy both good and bad, including a nice interception and funny anecdote along with it, but also him getting positively smoked by Keon Coleman during one on one reps.
He also talks about Kaiir Elam getting first team reps before Christian Benford on Monday, Matt Milano continuing to ease back in, Mike Edwards still looking pretty ginger moving around according to Patrick, Andy Isabella and plenty of other nuggets from Bills camp.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo Patrick Moran is joined by sports reporter Ajay Cybulski of the Batavia Daily to discuss Buffalo Bills training camp and several storylines developing from it, including highlight plays from rookie Keon Coleman on a regular basis that have him demonstrating the ultra high ceiling he could have in the NFL.
Coleman is having a memorable first training camp, producing a catch or two on a daily basis that many veteran receivers only dream of making. The guys discuss on while it's obvious Coleman will be a guy capable of making big plays to help the Bills, how great he ultimately becomes will boil down to a level of consistency. They also talk about how in hindsight it seems so wild that few draft pundits and fans gave Coleman much thought with Buffalo before the draft.
Ajay also talks about Kaiir Elam seems to be making the most of his opportunities with a "clean slate" that head coach Sean McDermott is constantly referring to. While there's not expectation of Elam being a starter there's still plenty of upside in his game and if he becomes to the team what Dane Jackson was, his presence on the roster can be a positive one. They also talk about Zack Davidson making a push to earn a roster spot and a role that Alec Anderson seems headed for.
Patrick also spends a little time talking with Ajay about the progression in Ajay's sports media journey, going from intern gigs to a sports reporter position at a community newspaper in addition to starting a "Right Here, Right Now" podcast alongside colleague Alex Brasky. That and plenty more today.

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by sports media personality Joe Yerdon for a conversation focused on the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, streamed live from Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo.
Joe covers the Sabres for his Noted Hockey Substack and also does work with Bleacher Report. It's been a very busy and eventful summer for the hockey team and Joe shares his thoughts on UPL's new five-year and trading away Matt Savoie in addition to an insightful discussion on who he thinks is under more pressure this season between the Sabres and BIlls.
Speaking of the Bills there's plenty of football talk as well with Joe, who's admittedly a lifelong Detroit Lions fan. The Bills look to be off to a strong start at training camp and are still considered among the league's better teams, but the guys discuss a huge aura of uncertainty surrounding them going into the regular season. Josh Allen looks like he's having the best camp of his career and it goes without saying Buffalo will need the best version of him to be successful
That plus some talk about summertime in Buffalo, wings and much more. Big shout-out and thank you once again to Imperial Pizza for being a gracious host and for their excellent wings. They now have two locations, 1035 Abbott Road and 1665 Main Street

On this episode of Talking Buffalo, Patrick Moran is joined by popular Buffalo Bills content creator Joe Marino (Locked on Bills) for a conversation on the team and much more recorded live from Sonny Red's in Lackawanna.
It's the second consecutive summer Marino has appeared in person live for an episode, with last year being at Imperial Pizza in South Buffalo. Joe, up in Western New York this week from his home in Charlotte is covering Bills training camp and obviously there's plenty to talk about, including what's becoming a physical mess at safety, the seemingly return of Von Miller back to 100% and some highly contested roster battles on the back half of the wide receiver position.
Joe also discusses some of the players and things have most caught his eyes and attention during the first week of Bills camp, who he thinks will be calling defensive plays this season and how important it is for him to spend time at camp to give himself a first hand perspective. That plus the unbelievable reception he got from fans at Sonny Red's, what he's doing with some down time this week, plenty of Locked on Bills talk and much more.
You can follow Joe on Twitter @TheJoeMarino, listen to the Locked On Bills podcast wherever podcasts are heard and/or watch it on the Locked on Bills YouTube channel. Also be sure to check out his amazing book on the history of the Bills, “Go Bills”.
Big thank you once again to this episode’s sponsor, Sonny Red's for outstanding food and a great vibe to record the show in!
