It has been a pretty good 48 hours for the San Diego Padres. Manny Machado agreed to a huge extension that will keep him in San Diego for the rest of his career. The Padres offense then scored 18 runs later that day. Fernando Tatis Jr.’s return was officially announced for Tuesday. And finally there’s been some encouraging outings from the Padres pitching staff early on.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres are $145 million apart in extension talks. Machado reportedly is “countering with a 10-year, $400 million extension that would begin in 2024”. Is Manny asking for too much? What is the right price for an extension to get done?

According to Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union Tribune, the deadline Manny Machado set for extension talks with the Padres has passed. San Diego reportedly made one offer to Machado before the deadline (February 16), which was to add an additional five years ($21 million AAV) on his current five years and $150 million left on his deal after this season. This doesn't seem like good news for Padres fans.
