Project Status

The first draft design on the book is now complete and is currently in review with Bob and Brian. Many sample spreads from the book have been shared with backers of the Kickstarter campaign and have been well received. Overall the project is running slightly ahead of schedule. All pre-orders will ship immediately after the Kickstarter backer rewards have been fulfilled. Estimated shipping date is Q1 2024.

We bring you an interview with another significant person from the history of GI Joe - Nelson "Nel" Yomtov.

Nel is known for his work at Marvel comics from 1975 to 1996 - as a writer, colourist and editor and more besides. For GI Joe, he coloured issues of GI Joe, GI joe special Missions, GI Joe order of battle & Joe Vs Transformers & also colored the whole 80 issue Marvel run of Transformers,

Nel played a critical role in the history of GI Joe, as in his role as Director of Product Development in Marvel’s licensing division. He was responsible for GI joe's licensing when it launched in 1982 and was in the room where it happened in the critical early meetings between Marvel and Hasbro.

We discuss Nel's journey at Marvel, how he got started, working in licensing, colouring, and editing, plus the K-Otics - the band he was in with Larry Hama.

ALKING JOE 216 - Disavowed - Interview with Sam Wells (Devils Due Assistant Publisher)

Sam Wells, based in Chicago, started as an Intern at Devils Due Publishing and went on to be Assistant Publisher and has gone on to run the Toy shop, Toy De Jour.

During his time at Devil's Due, Sam was involved in a bunch of stuff, but most prominently for us, the readers, as the writer on Special Missions Brazil (a story inspired by the original figures), and the Data Desk profiles. He also had some involvement in the Hasbro approval process, who he has previously described as "a multi headed schizophrenic beast".

In this interview we have a deep dive into the Devil's Due years, running from the intern days to the end of Sam's time and Devils Due and beyond.
