The Satanic Panic of the 1980s is back, and stronger than ever. A weaponized moral panic movement has emerged in the era of QAnon with political backing, and is even more virulent in the age of social media, Religious studies professor Joseph P. Laycock, occult researcher and author Michelle Belanger, and Ultraculture podcast producer Dani Sophia join host Aaron Sagers (Paranormal Caught on Camera) for a Talking Strange episode where they explore how the new wave of Satanic Panic targets marginalized people, the LGBTQ+ community, and those with an interest in witchcraft, and the occult.

In the latest Talking Strange, host Aaron Sagers (Paranormal Caught on Camera) is joined by paranormal investigator Dave Schrader to discuss his new Travel Channel & Discovery+ series, Ghosts of Devil’s Perch (premiering Sunday, August 21 at 9 p.m. ET/PT).
Schrader is a noted paranormal radio host and TV personality, known for his work on The Holzer Files and The Paranormal 60 with Dave Schrader. And in Devil's Perch, he leads Cindy Kaza and tech expert KD Stafford to Butte, Montana, where spirits are tethered to the historic mining town’s past, and are rising to the surface with clues. The discovery of copper in the 1880s turned Butte’s Copper Barons into some of the wealthiest men in America. But the hills that glittered in the sun could also cast sinister shadows of greed and vice at night. With the town now intent on rebuilding its image, it seems every renovation project is digging up a paranormal nightmare with residents and businesses reporting terrifying ghostly encounters. In an unlikely partnership, Mayor J.P. Gallagher and Sheriff Ed Lester have called in an elite team of paranormal investigators to help.

Author Heather Greene joins Talking Strange to discuss her book "Lights, Camera, Witchcraft: A Critical History of Witches in American Film & Television," as well as the Satanic Panic (and its modern iteration). In the book, Greene traces the figure of the witch from 1896 through 2020, and is an analysis of the entertainment industry’s shifting boundaries concerning expressions of femininity. It focuses on films and television series from Bewitched to The Craft, and looks at how the witch reflects changing gender roles, religion, the modern practice of witchcraft, and female agency.

In the latest Talking Strange, we are joined by SHE WILL director Charlotte Colbert, and star Alice Krige. Opening in theaters and on IFC Midnight July 15, 2022, SHE WILL is an atmospheric gothic-tinged horror movie, and feminist fairy tale about aging actor Veronics Ghent (Alice Krige) goes to a healing retreat in rural Scotland following a mastectomy, and joined by her young nurse Desi (Kota Eberhardt).
With her own identity in doubt, Veronica starts to confront past traumas endured on movie sets. The two women develop an unlikely bond as mysterious supernatural forces of the wilderness — and the witches executed on the land 300 years ago — give Veronica the power to enact revenge. In the interview, Krige and Colbert talk about the parallels between #MeToo and witch trials, as well as the involvement of horror icon Dario Argento (who serves as executive producer), and actor Malcolm McDowell.
