Clayton wrestled for Crete High School in Nebraska before moving on to Buena Vista University. While there, he studied digital media and put it to use right away. Clayton directed and produced the documentary Unsanctioned, a 6-part docuseries following girls wrestling in Iowa, particularly the Ridge View Girls Wrestling team.
