Eric wrestled at Waverly-Shell Rock, where he was a 2x Iowa High School state champion. He also was a Fargo national champion in freestyle in 2008. He was rated the nations top heavyweight recruit by InterMat coming out of high school. Eric started his college career at Iowa State University before transferring to Grand View University, where he went on to win 3 NAIA national titles and was named the NAIA Wrestler of the Year in 2012. He took 5th place at the 2016 Olympic trials while competing at the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club. Eric is now an assistant coach at Arizona State.
