Different reasons to journal and questions to get you started:
Discover new song ideas in two ways:
1. Journal before bed. Ask yourself...
* What was the one moment in my day that gave me the biggest emotional reaction?
* What did I struggle with the most today?
* What did I overcome today?
2. Journal when you wake up.
* Write about your dreams.
* Try to list all the details of your dream you can remember.
Improve your relations with your bandmates:
* After something good or bad happens with a band mate, write down what happened with them. DO NOT focus on just the bad moments. Make sure you have balance between the good and bad encounters with your band mates.
* What was your emotional state during the moment you are journaling about?
Improve your performances:
Starts with recognizing the right time to journal! (I suggest any downtime you might find.)
* Who touched you emotionally during, before, or after your performance? Find words for the emotions you were feeling.
* When did you feel the most comfortable during your performance?
* When did you feel the most discomfort?
Become more familiar with your creative process:
Important note: Analyze and journal about your creative process right after you create.
* What instrument did you use?
* Why did you pick the instrument? (What about your instrument makes your song sound the way it does?)
* What distracted you during your session?
* What did you want to portray through your song? A feeling? Perspective?
* Sum up your session in one emotion.
* What was the final result and why did it come out this way?
