Ever wondered how a full metal band writes in the studio? Some of Walls Within's techniques in the studio might surprise you. For instance, the band will roughly record each of their parts and then piece the song structure together using the computer. That way it saves a lot of time and effort. Once the band comes up with a solid structure, they practice it live as a band and then take it back to the studio to get a real good quality recording.

Walls Within Bio:

Walls Within is an original four piece progressive metal band from Albuquerque, formed in 2010. The band’s approach to music can be described in a few simple sentences: Write songs that are heavy, yet melodic; brutal, but beautiful; hard-hitting, technical and complex, but not so much as to become unreachable. Walls Within does not exist solely to provide mundane, pedestrian music; they strive to make sounds and write lyrics the listener will feel to their core and find something within that they can make their own.

Elliot the lead singer really gave us a clear picture of how his band The Future Thieves writes music together. They started off writing music by themselves and then contributing their ideas when they met up but that system quickly changed when they only started writing as a band all together. There is much to be learned when you create in a group of other like minded individuals. Elliot Collett did a fantastic job articulating this point. After we got a good idea of how Future Thieves operates we honed in on their song "Nightmares" as Elliot broke down how the idea was formed and how the band wrote it. With music being in the forefront for the majority of his life, John Hanifin has quite a unique and thorough creative process. He actually produces a whole demo of the song before he brings it to his band and then they dissect the different parts. With influences like Dave Matthews Band and some of the greatest composers, John Hannifin Band leaves no melody unturned when writing their songs.

A virtuoso trumpeter, pianist, and composer/arranger, Brandon Ridenour is a winner of the 2014 CAG Victor Elmaleh Competition. His wide-ranging activities as a soloist and chamber musician paired with his passion for composing and arranging are manifested in his versatile performances and unique repertoire. As a graduate of The Juilliard School and an alumnus of The Academy (Ensemble ACJW), Brandon has had extensive training that helped him develop and never loose sight of "how" he plays. This means it is not all about what notes are played but how they are played increases their significance.

Achievements: 

* Brandon has appeared as a concerto soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Grand Rapids, and Edmonton Symphony Orchestras.

* He has played with leading ensembles including the New York Philharmonic, International Contemporary Ensemble, the Knights, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra in Europe.

* Other solo performances include the Kennedy Center, Walt Disney Hall, and Carnegie Hall, where he most recently appeared in a performance of “Penny Lane” alongside Sting and James Taylor.
