  • 18. Interview with Theresa Brown, RN Author of the book Healing: When a Nurse Becomes a Patient

In today's episode, I speak with the NY Times Best Selling author, Theresa Brown, RN.

In her new memoir, HEALING: When a Nurse Becomes a Patient, (Algonquin Books: April 12, 2022), Brown tells her intensely personal story and presents an honest – and rare – look at struggling with the illness while navigating the maze of American health care from the unique standpoint of both a patient and a practitioner.

Brown vividly chronicles her journey, from the mammogram appointment that would change her life to her diagnosis, treatment, and recovery. She writes about the small joys she finds amid her fears – riding her bike to radiation appointments, a hiking trip with her husband and kids, and the constancy of her dog. But despite years working as an oncology and hospice nurse, Brown is constantly surprised by the lack of compassion she experiences during her treatment.

In this episode, I interview Corina Klein.  She is a breast cancer survivor diagnosed in the midst of the pandemic of 2020 and is also the founder of, Ink 4 Pink which is an organization that helps provide financial assistance to breast cancer patients looking to receive nipple and breast tattoos in the Seacoast area of the United States.

Corina tells her story and how she came to recognize the need for an organization like Ink 4 Pink. We also discuss what 3D Nipple tattoos are and how they can help breast cancer patients.

According to the website,  "We are on a mission to help breast cancer survivors who have undergone mastectomies finally feel at home in their bodies with nipple & breast tattooing.
