Today we will be talking about the persisting narrative around “learning loss” – The idea that students have suffered a collective educational deficit due to the global pandemic. We’re joined by Ron Berger, chief academic officer at EL Education, to look at how, as educators, we can challenge this negative dialogue and reframe how we view students – seeing them as capable, resilient learners whom we believe in.
Read Ron's article "Our Kids Are Not Broken" in The Atlantic.

Being a beginning teacher is challenging, and transitioning from a largely theory-based, academic understanding of education into a real-life, operational classroom with students with diverse needs, can be tricky. Throw in a pandemic, some remote learning, and physical isolation from your teaching friends and colleagues, and the challenge grows. But it’s not bad news. Beginning teachers right now are developing resilience and flexibility which will hold them in good stead throughout their careers.
We asked some teachers in the field: What’s your best advice for beginning teachers?

Hello and happy Friday teachers! What a week that was! We’ve had schools in Victoria and South Australia come out of lockdown, while teachers in New South Wales learned that they will be teaching remotely for some time still.
So many of us have been through this before and it never gets easy, but teaching is a big and inclusive and supportive community and we are here for each other. In this week’s teacher voicemail, we asked for some messages of support, and Lisa from Redpoppy's Class has shared some of her own experiences. Take a listen.
Welcome to Teacher Voicemail, our newest mini-episode coming to you every Friday! If you've got something to share, DM us on Instagram and send a voice recording (just tap the little microphone icon to start).
