The world seemingly continues to unravel. Microsoft seems achingly close to getting out of phone hardware, despite being a "mobile first, cloud first" company. Both the NYSE and United Airlines are taken down by software bugs. Reddit is in open rebelling to point that they muscle out their CEO, and Facebook is taking a step back from their Newsfeed. There is an ancient curse that goes something like, "may you live in interesting times." That certainly describes this week in tech - very interesting.

There was definitely some tech news this week. Apple launched its music service. Microsoft continues to reorganize itself as it tries, ever so gradually, to push Windows 10 out the door. Facebook adds features that literally only Snapchat cares about, but the real news of the week is that the robot invasion has begun. A man was killed in Germany by a factory robot. He was picked up and crushed against a metal plate. This is not a test. Everyone proceed calmly into your robot defense bunkers. We may not have long to li.................

This week it is all about the T Swift! She took down Apple - at least a little bit, but then, Apple played their hand so well that they actually kind of won. So, if this were a game of baseball, it would definitely be Taylor Swift one but also Apple one but also, in an odd turn of fate, indy artists are also playing, and they have one. In summation, Microsoft probably wins with their new vision. Samsung definitely loses with their malware, and I will probably Google unsend this sports analogy. This is clearly tech news at its finest. 

This week, we have a sickness, and the only solution is more gaming news. Luckily, it is E3 week, so the gaming news crop is coming in force. Microsoft has backwards compatibility and games this years. Sony cleverly covers having no games for this year about rolling out two unicorns (Last Guardian and Final Fantasy 7). Nintendo pretends like it still plays in the big leagues. In other news, Last Pass got hack, as did the Houston Astros, and Microsoft's leadership got hacked up. Still, it's the annual festival of gaming, and this year could be fantastic. 

WWDC happened. OSs were updated. A music service was announced, and then, overly demonstrated. We get it. It plays music. What doesn't play so well is the rest of this week's news. The government exposed millions of people and our national security to threat by leaving 14 million government employee records open to attack from the Chinese. Twitch.tv has a real problem because YouTube Gaming may just eat their lunch. Oculus Rift really well miss the holiday season, and PornHub wants to make porn in space. This is what humanity spends money on - apparently. 

We all witnessed history in the past week. For the first time since 1978, our usually fascinatingly technophobic Congress reacted to the Snowden revelations (almost two years to the day later) and limited the NSA's power. Specifically, the Senate allowed Section 215 of the Patriot to expire, and then, passed the USA FREEDOM Act. All this means that the NSA can no longer bulk collect cellphone metadata on USA citizens. Instead, they have to make specific requests to the phone companies. This is not a perfect law and does not end all spying on USA citizens, but it is still a meaningful gesture that Congress rarely makes. This is a direct consequence of what Edward Snowden did. There was other news this week and other stories on the show, but for once, I don't want to bury the lead.   

Have you ever imagined that your life was a musical with just the right song playing at every moment? Apparently, Spotify has had the same dream. Within their slew of announcements this week is integration with Starbucks and technology that syncs music to the pace of your running. Add that to their existing integration with Uber, and they could give you just the right song for all occasions - someday. Or, at least, a boy can dream. Until that dream turns into a nightmare of the NSA and the Department of Commerce weaponizing exploits, Apple canceling the Apple TV, and states trying to prevent municipal broadband. But, let's not dwell on all that. Let's be carried away by Spotify's life soundtrack - until the NSA hacks it. 

First, let's dispense with all this tech news stuff, so we can get to what is really important it life. AOL has a new home in the comfortable arms of Verizon. Walmart thinks its can take on Amazon Prime. Nintendo is bringing some classic late 80s/early 90s game to E3, and Facebook is now hosting content because that's not a Net Neutrality issue at all. Okay, good. Now for the real news, you can now order pizza via Twitter using only an emoji. I repeat. You can now order pizza via Twitter using only an emoji. This is not a test. I now return you to your regularly scheduled program (assuming that you have already ordered your emoji pizza). 

Tech's Last Call is back on air! Yes, you may have been wondering what happened. It turns out that Trey really did have to finish his documentary, which left little time for eating, sleeping, and showering - much less podcasting. Thankfully, the storm has past, and we can get back to what really matters - theoretically informed discussion of technology news. In this week's installment, Apple may be throwing its weight around in an anti-competitive way to establish a functional streaming music service, but they really show just buy the whole the music industry. They have the money. Oculus Rift has a release date, but it's later than the HTC Vive, Hololens, and the coming robot apocalypse. Speaking of our new mechanical overlords, the FAA is relaxing (if only slightly) its drone restrictions. None of us will be paying attention though because Snake is coming to modern smartphones, and boy, is it only to be awful. 

Facebook is like parfaits. Okay, maybe everyone doesn't like Facebook, but they 1.4 billion people use it. And, they are making some changes. They might be hosting content from the New York Times and Buzzfeed (unlikely bed fellows). Facebook turned Messenger into a platform, made it easier to make collages, support spherical videos, and allow you to embed their videos other places. This way, you can post your FCC lawsuit video on Facebook and share it across the web, and you'll want to do that because the FCC is already being sued over Net Neutrality. However, all Jimmy can do is think about the Galaxy S6 Edge. The tune about Samsung around here has really changed.
