  • Are You New to IoT Networks
There is no single class of IoT device.
They come in all shapes and sizes.

You designed your network for workstations and data communications. Next there was VoIP which changed some of the network characteristics by demands for reduced delay and jitter. Then came video with higher bandwidth requirements. Now you have to embrace IoT, but there is no single form of IoT traffic to support. The traffic created by IoT devices varies considerably. The IoT traffic will also depend whether or not an edge processor is used, how much intelligence it contains, and what applications are running.

Edge processors can respond locally to sensors. Dumb devices require more interaction over the network with the data center or cloud service.

Watch the 6 minute video EDUbrief “Are you new to IoT Networks?” to learn about the many network design differences that IoT devices create that are problematic for the common IP network design.

In this EDUbrief you will learn:
    • The varying IoT device traffic patterns
    • Edge processorsand their influence on IoT traffic
    • Wireless connection options
    • Wired connection options
    • Network challenges

  • Podcast: Panasonic chooses a different path
“They have fewer and fewer options,” says Gary Moeller, Product Manager, BTS product line for Panasonic. Moeller reports that many channel companies have customers that have infrastructure that makes migration to cloud or other technologies prohibitive in terms of cost or have business realities that make migration a mismatch for their needs. It turns out, legacy is a market. As many other OEMs have sprinted for the exit door from the world of legacy, Panasonic has done precisely the opposite.

    Gary Moeller

The storied technology products company sees an under served market and is offering that market with fresh products. In this podcast, Moeller gives us an overview of the Panasonic business phone line up, including new Panasonic digital phones. We learn how a company with a century of offering products, has identified an opportunity for the channel to talk to those end users who need new phones and other gear, but don’t seek to change the type of platform they are using.

  • Podcast: NGMN Alliance 5G White Paper 2 sees widespread impact, opportunity from new technology
The Next Generation Mobile Networks (NGMN) Alliance published its second 5G White Paper this summer. Coming five years after their first paper on 5G, the new NGMN warns against fragmentation, and urges further adoption of global standard in order to realize the full benefits of virtualization, cloud, and edge computing. In this podcast, Javan Erfanian, Distinguished Member of Technical Staff at Bell Canada and co-editor of the 5G White Paper 2 and Nick Sampson, Director of Wireless Access and Core Network Standardisation at Orange and co-editor of the 5G White Paper discuss their findings. 5G is much more than a better way to deliver mobility services. The new technology will likely change the way we work, consume and recreate. 5G will enable the further development of AI, machine learning and much more, with consequences that reach far beyond the devices 5G will initially interact with. Erfanian and Sampson share their findings, discuss their recommendations and hint at the impact on the future. The changes coming might be as large, or larger, than those experienced during the industrial revolution.

Jasmina Muller, VP of Global Channel Partnerships at Everbridge, reviews the recent pandemic and other events with Don Witt of The Channel Daily News, a TR publication. These events have hurt and even destroyed businesses that did not have a plan in place to deal with the catastrophic effects of COVID-19 and other resulting disasters.

The best time to plan disaster recovery is prior to the disaster. However, since we are almost through the worldwide crisis, planning disaster recovery after an event is encouraged since the event will be fresh in every one’s mind. Everbridge’s Critical Event Management (CEM) platform will help automate the process and make for easy modifications moving forward.

Remember, it is not just about the business and revenue – it is about employees that are on premise, remote or traveling that need to be helped during a crisis.

    Jasmina Muller

Over time, Everbridge has significantly broadened their capabilities to meet customer needs and today they provide a Critical Event Management platform that helps organizations manage the full lifecycle of a critical event: Assess risks and determine which are relevant to your assets and people; Locate mobile and traveling employees, as well as responders, who are near or traveling to areas of risk; Act to automate standard operating procedures to launch and manage incident response; and Analyze performance to identify bottlenecks and improve response for subsequent events.

Their Critical Event Management solutions are used by over 5,000 organizations to keep people safe and avoid and/or lessen disruption to operations when such events as severe weather, workplace violence, active shooters, terrorism, IT and power outages, environmental spills, brand attacks on social media, product recalls, and medical emergencies occur.
