  • Podcast: 2600Hz says it’s time to get a second platform
One may not be enough, according to Patrick Sullivan, COO and Co-Founder of 2600Hz. In this podcast, Sullivan makes the case for having a second platform. According to Sullivan, many of the platform’s companies developed to offer cloud communications, may now be looking for more features and functionality. A second platform can fill in those gaps and thus deliver growth, especially where the current offering may overlook some opportunities. Sullivan lays out the case to consider the idea, lists the gains that can be made by offering a second platform and outlines what to look for in selecting a second platform.

    Sandy Motley

Nokia’s transition to a primary focus on telecommunications began in the 1990s. The first GSM call was made in 1991 using Nokia equipment. Rapid success in the mobile phone sector allowed Nokia to become by 1998, the best-selling mobile phone brand in the world. In 2003 Nokia introduced the first camera phone. In 2011, to address increasing competition from iOS and Android operating systems, Nokia entered into a strategic partnership with Microsoft. In 2014 Nokia sold its mobile and devices division to Microsoft.

The creation of Nokia Networks, following the buy-out of joint-venture partner Siemens in 2013, laid the foundation for Nokia’s transformation into primarily a network hardware and software provider. The 2015 acquisition of Franco-American telecommunications equipment provider Alcatel-Lucent greatly broadened the scope of Nokia’s portfolio and customer base. Additional acquisitions have positioned Nokia to be an industry leader in the transition to 5G wireless technology by offering the only end-to-end 5G network portfolio available on a global basis.

The customer endured minimal disruption, the customer’s workforce might see few changes, and retain functionality that their team might be used to. Sharon describes how his tool takes the place of an almost handmade process that can occupy precious labor time and deliver less satisfactory results. • Podcast: Survey finds mobility rules and voice reigns supreme
“We live, work and play with our smartphones these days,” says Dr. Paul Carter, GWS Founder and CEO. “And we’ve been using it for all of the basic communication needs, we’ve been talking to each other, running our business remotely, through emails, video calling and voice calling, and texting, and all those things, and relying on our networks for all that.” In this podcast Dr. Carter outlines the findings of a special survey of the communications landscape and gives us a glimpse into what comes next. According to the survey results, When asked which one mobile phone capability consumers would keep for at home telework, the top choice was voice calling (33%), followed by texting (28%), then video calling and conferencing (20%), emailing (15%), and lastly team collaboration like Slack (4%). Meanwhile mobility, as overall need and expectation now rule, with people choosing to keep their cell phone over Netflix, PCs, televisions and even cars. Carter applauds the way most carriers have kept up with surging demand through the crises and discusses how 5G not only means more speed, but entirely new experiences and possibilities. Telehealth is one example of how a major, traditionally on prem industry has been transformed into a remote delivery model. 5G holds the promise of transforming many other activities once thought to need the presence of people. Carter connects the dots of his survey into practical ideas for the whole UC community.

  • Podcast: UBoss automates the back office, enables improved margins, customized solutions
“UBoss is about automating the back office,” says Iain Sinnott, VP, Sales for UBoss and UBoss parent company, DRD Communications. According to Sinnott, UBoss reduces costs and effecting margins by, “managing the business behind the scenes really well.” In this podcast Sinnott makes his case on how UBoss can help cloud communications companies achieve success in a competitive market by draining time and cost from critical processes while enabling customized experiences. Sinnott describes how the industry landscape now includes “cloud giants”, while UBoss and DRD’s more nimble customers can grow by holding the line on operational costs through strong automation tools while enabling customers to shine by making them indispensable to the companies they serve. UBoss is now a member of the Cloud Communications Alliance, which Sinnott sees as a great community where UBoss can offer a transformative set of products and services. Sinnott sees the looming “cloud giants” as an existential threat only to the extent that the cloud communications companies would offer the same vanilla set of services that the lumbering cloud mammoths will invariably churn out and offer at a low price. Sinnott argues that the cloud communications community must offer tailored services, and he discusses how UBoss can help a company get to that higher level of must-have offerings.

  • Podcast: Contact tracing of COVID-19 faces 6 key challenges in providing help to slow the spread of the virus
Robert McKay, Senior Vice President of Risk Solutions at Neustar discusses with Don Witt of The Channel Daily News, a TR publication, how the contact tracing process and technology is evolving.  Currently, in its early stages, some serious challenges need to be overcome prior to providing effective results and information for state and local governments to reduce the spread of a virus and to provide resources to affected citizens.

    Robert McKay

Based on information from 200 contact tracers in 39 states, Neustar takes the lead in trying to help the process mature as quickly as possible enabling faster responses and the saving of countless number of lives.

Want to understand contact tracing - listen to Robert McKay - an expert in the field.

Fueled by start-up energy nonetheless. Neustar was literally born to manage large datasets. In 1997, while still a part of Lockheed Martin, they won the contract to administer the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). That’s numbers as in phone numbers, which people could finally port. It created a massive database in need of a neutral steward to give telephone companies equal access to everybody’s digits. To ensure that neutrality, in 1999 they were divested by Lockheed Martin and renamed Neustar.

Years later, number portability in the United States remains the global standard for convenience and efficiency. As the first to deliver cloud-based information services and analytics to inform high-volume, high-value decisions in real time – one interaction at a time – they’ve diversified their information services quite a bit, adding to the critical datasets they manage.
