  • Radio ITVT: T Time Discusses the Best TV Bundle with Hub Research Expert, Jon Giegengack
In this discussion with Hub Research’s Jon Geigengak, we discuss what people’s TV bundles look like today. We also dig into what makes people happy about their bundle, what makes them sad, and what it tells us about Disney+ prospects when it releases in November.

Chapter 1: About TVOT San Francisco (0:30)

There will be some great fireside chats and panels at this year’s TV of Tomorrow Show in San Francisco on June 12th and 13th. For example, Colin will discuss the evolution of the TV viewing experience with Jennifer Prenner, GM and Head of Marketing, Amazon Fire TV, Google’s News Initiative with Rebekah Dopp, Principal, News and Local Media--Global Partnerships, Google, and free ad-supported TV (FAST) with a group of industry experts.

Jon Geigengak, Principal and Founder of Hub Research, joins us to discuss data from Hub’s new report, The Best Bundle.

Chapter 2: Personal TV bundles today (2:50)

Jon discusses what Hub’s latest report has to say about the services in people’s entertainment bundles. Pay TV still matters, but SVOD services have become a critical component as well.

Chapter 3: What makes people happy about their bundle? (9:15)

Is wasn’t so long ago that people’s entertainment package was their pay TV subscription. All the new services that people are using today had me wondering what made people happy about their bundles. According to Jon, it all boils down to choice.

Chapter 4: What makes people sad about their bundle? (14:15)

Having lots of choices is both a blessing and a curse. We explore some of the pitfalls of building a personal TV bundle.

Chapter 5: The role of aggregator (19:00)

Jon outlines the opportunity for SVOD aggregators like Comcast X1 and Amazon Channels.

Chapter 6: Pricing, free ad-supported, and the opportunity for Disney+ (23:25)

There are signs that people are slowing the adoption of SVOD services because of the aggregate cost. Is this an opportunity for free ad-supported? Will cost be a problem for Disney+ even though it will come to market for only $7 a month.

Chapter 7: The value of live TV in an on-demand age (29:30)

Jon says the death of live TV is exaggerated. However, he does believe that we are witnessing the death of live TV being the default viewing mode.

  • Radio ITVT: "The Attribution Effect" at TVOT NYC 2018
ITVT is pleased to present an audio recording of the TVOT NYC 2018 session, "The Attribution Effect: How Advanced ROAS Analysis Will Change More than Just Media Buying" The session was described in the show brochure as follows:

"Attribution, though still in many respects in an early stage of evolution, is transforming how advertising is bought and measured, as well as valued.

But as the ability to more accurately understand the impact of spend versus outcome advances, and as television advertising is increasingly transacted on this basis, what will the full spectrum of effects be not only on advertising, but on television itself?

The modern commercial pod is predicated, to a significant extent, on delivery of reach and frequency to an audience. If that is no longer the primary objective of media--to deliver an audience, but more so to deliver an outcome--how will creative need to change to accommodate this more effectively? Does a commercial pod in linear television in this future still make sense? How might programming and content itself need to evolve?

Jeff Greenfield, COO and Co-Founder of C3 Metrics, will help you get ahead of this revolutionary curve by looking at both the short-term and long-term impacts that 'The Attribution Effect' will bring."

It will also debate which--if any--of these developments have been overhyped. Panelists will examine such recent and imminent innovations as voice control and personal assistants, use of artificial intelligence and machine learning to provide programming recommendations and even to drive entire programming line-ups, personalization of both programming and advertising content, and--thanks to such phenomena as self-driving cars and the rise of ride sharing--the possible emergence of the automobile as television's 'new living room.'" • Radio ITVT: T Time Discusses Boom in Antenna TV and ATSC 3.0 Rollout
New data shows antenna TV use is on the rise, particularly among people already watching Internet TV. ATSC 3.0 promises to bring broadcast TV into the Internet family. When will it arrive?

Tim Hanlon, CEO of the Vertere Group, joins us this week as we look at the present and future of TV broadcasting in America.

Chapter 1: Britbox arrives in the UK (1:30)

Britbox, a collaboration between the BBC and ITV in the UK, has been very successful netting over a half-million US subscribers. Now the service is to launch in the UK, but isn’t all the content already available through BBC iPlayer and ITV+?

Chapter 2: Stunning growth in antenna TV use (5:40)

Mr. Hanlon explains why he thinks antenna TV is enjoying such a strong resurgence. We also discuss the Nielsen data that describes the phenomenon.

Chapter 3: Unbundling and rebundling (9:30)

How antenna TV is becoming an essential part of people’s TV bundles.

Chapter 4: Locast and Aereo TV (12:30)

Locast is a non-profit helping people tap into their local broadcast channels. We discuss the differences and similarities with now-defunct Aereo TV. Mr. Hanlon talks about two other services helping people leverage antenna TV.

Chapter 5: Why broadcasters should help bring personal bundles together (15:00)

The big challenge for consumers is bringing together all the different video services they use into a simple interface. We discuss several solutions and why broadcasters aren’t stepping up to help.

Chapter 6: Why broadcasters aren’t waiting for ATSC 3.0 (18:30)

Sinclair launched STIRR online when it promised to do something similar leveraging ATSC 3.0. Why did Sinclair decide not to wait for the new broadcast standard to arrive? Mr. Hanlon wonders why broadcasters haven’t been more aggressive in creating a unified experience themselves.

Chapter 7: On the timetable for ATSC 3.0 rollout (24:30)

The FCC mandated ATSC 1.0 during analog switch-off. There is no such compelling reason to switch to ATSC 3.0. What does that mean to the roll-out?

Chapter 8: Why Amazon is providing an antenna TV DVR (28:30)

We discuss why Amazon delivered the Recast antenna TV DVR and some other OTA DVR solutions.

Chapter 9: Why local broadcasters are behind with local ads (34:20)

Mr. Hanlon discusses why local broadcasters can’t deliver addressable advertising and how this is hurting them with local ads.

ITVT is pleased to present an audio recording of the TVOT NYC 2018 session, "Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence for the OTT Universe." The session was described in the show brochure as follows:

"Machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) have progressed in the past year to become a leading feature of virtually every major equipment vendor in the professional video industry, from capture to post-production to stream analysis. The value of systems that can perform sentiment analysis, curate and deliver personalized content, provide predictive analysis, and automate content compliance is growing, as OTT content--including short-form mobile content--surges across devices. Every corner of the OTT landscape--from telco operators and broadcasters, to pure-play streamers--has specialized ML and AI needs, and providers are seeking solutions from leading players, including Microsoft, Google, and Amazon, but increasingly from smaller, niche technology companies that have innovative plays for specific applications.
