Hey, it's Michelle, and I'm back from a week off with four true ghost stories that cover more paranormal ground than almost any other episode in the early archive.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana, returns with a new addition to her paranormal household. Regular listeners already know about Little Rachel, the ghost of a girl who burned to death in a Christmas fire and followed Cindy home after she donated toys to her memorial. This time, Cindy introduces us to a second entity that also followed her home from a visit to Mitchell, Indiana. This one has taken the shape of a crab. It has piercing blue eyes. It hides under the bed and glares at her. Cindy's home is becoming quite the gathering.

Dave from Kansas City calls in with a sleep paralysis experience in his first apartment that crossed the line from dream state into something he still cannot fully explain. He was pulled into a paralysis episode where the bathroom and closet doorways were filled with solid black, and a whispered voice called his name as if moving toward him. Three loud bangs on his door woke him into a half state where he got up and found two figures in his living room, shaped like humans but made entirely of TV static. They attacked him. He chanted "Jesus help me" until they stopped, and he woke fully in his bedroom. He got up, found his front door had been unlocked all night, walked outside, and discovered four police vehicles surrounding the adjacent complex where a man had murdered his girlfriend in the night and had been running through the streets.

Brittany from Riverton, Utah, calls in with a haunting connected to her great-grandmother Ruth, a feisty and fiercely protective woman who collected things her whole life and was buried with some of her most beloved possessions. When the family cleared out her great uncle's house after his death, a couple hired to help took several items home with them. Two nights later, the husband called Brittany's husband and said he needed to give the items back. A woman named Ruth had appeared in his dream and told him she did not want him to have her things. He had never met Ruth. He did not feel good about keeping them. He gave them back. Brittany now keeps several of Ruth's items in her cabin. Ruth has not come to ask for those ones back.

Sidney from Nebraska calls in with a haunting from her teenage years in California, where her family rented a house she felt was wrong from the first moment she stepped inside. A large figure walked past her bedroom door while she was home alone unpacking. A woman in a dress appeared in the mirror that faced the closet in her parents' room. Sidney told her parents. They dismissed her. Years later, after they moved out, her parents finally told her what they had never mentioned while they lived there. Every single night that woman came out of the closet, walked to her father's side of the bed, and put her hands on his feet to wake him. Every night. For the entire time they lived in that house.

Elijah from Moscow, Idaho calls in about a new neighbor named Deborah, a recently divorced, entirely unremarkable woman who slowly began speaking in different voices, wandering the neighborhood at night claiming to hear people screaming her name, and scratching at the thin duplex walls. The situation culminated with Deborah marching in place on Elijah's stairs, breathing heavily, eyes rolled upward, answering every attempt to say her name with a single demonic-sounding word until she finally screamed "Satan." After being pushed outside, she banged her head rhythmically against the door for several minutes before walking backward down the stairs and disappearing around the building. It was one of the only times in Elijah's life he's ever called the police.

Nicole from Anchorage, Alaska calls in about a camping trip on a remote island near Homer, an area known among cryptid researchers for unusual activity. Alone by a bonfire, she was overtaken by a sudden, overwhelming sense of dread and the specific thought that she wasn't going to make it out of there. Later in her sleeping bag, she felt a breath against her ear and heard her own voice whisper her name, at the exact moment her dog leapt up, hackles raised, barking more aggressively than she'd ever witnessed. Locals later told her the area is known for skinwalker activity.

LaSondra from a small town south of San Antonio calls in about an eerie feeling that had followed her since moving in with her partner. While showering, she felt a full hand drag down the length of her spine, from her upper back to her hips, and instinctively swatted it away, thinking it was her partner joining her, only to find the bathroom empty when she finished rinsing her hair, with both sliding glass doors still shut.

Edwin Covarrubias host of ⁠Scary Story Podcast⁠ and ⁠True Scary Story⁠, recounts his time managing a hostel in Baños de Agua Santa, Ecuador, shares his first full apparition sighting, a man standing behind the reception desk who vanished the instant Edwin stepped closer, later identified by staff as Chiquito, a presence multiple employees had already encountered throughout the building. What followed included flickering lights that resisted every repair attempt and, weeks later, an entire restaurant's worth of light bulbs discovered deliberately unscrewed just enough to prevent them from working, in a building formerly owned by a convent of nuns. Staff eventually made a small offering to the building itself, after which the activity stopped entirely.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this Halloween episode has three true ghost stories that each land in a completely different register. One is frightening and unexplained. One is terrifying and possibly deserved. And one will break your heart. All three are real.

James from Greeley, Colorado, calls in with a true ghost story from when he was six years old, living in a foster home in Loveland. While parents watched a swim meet at Thompson Valley High School, a group of ten kids snuck into the empty dark gym. They started running around. Then every folded chair in the room flew into each other and crashed at once with nobody near them. Every child bolted for the same door simultaneously. James and his brother were last out. They turned and looked through the small window in the gym door and saw a bloody handprint smeared down the glass. When they told the parents, the adults assumed the children had knocked over the chairs themselves. James was six. He knows what he saw.

Erica from San Diego calls in with a story about what happens when you invoke something you were raised never to name. Her grandparents had Native American roots, and Erica grew up with the specific cultural warning that speaking of flesh pedestrians and shapeshifters draws their attention. On a camping trip to Palomar Mountain, her father started joking about shapeshifters near the observatory at the top of the mountain. A friend threw a rock at a deer. They laughed and got back in the minivan to drive down. Halfway down, the brakes failed completely. The minivan hit sixty miles an hour with nothing to stop it. Her father tried a dirt bank on the side of the mountain. It almost flipped them and did not slow them down. It felt like more than gravity was pulling them. With fifteen yards of guardrail left before a sheer drop, he pushed the passenger side into the rail and ground them to a stop ten feet from the end. Erica does not think it was a coincidence. Her father was the one talking. The passenger side was the side that hit the rail.

Vicki from Hammond, Indiana, calls in with the kind of true ghost story that does not frighten you so much as it stays with you. Her older brother drowned in Lake Michigan when Vicki was nine. He had been living in the basement of their family home. Months after the funeral Vicki came home from school alone and heard the kitchen wall phone ring. The cordless phone in her hand did not ring. Only the kitchen phone. She ran to answer it. Nobody was there. She hung up and walked back toward the bathroom. In the hallway, she heard her brother say her name as clearly as if he was standing right behind her. She knew it was him. She did not turn around. She ran into the bathroom and sat with her back against the door until her mother came home. The kitchen phone was near the back door that led down to the basement, where her brother used to live. She believes he was trying to draw her to him to say goodbye. The portable phone in her hand never rang. Only the one by the door to his room.

 Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's four calls include a phone booth that kept ringing at the same time every day, a ghost hunting show crew member who got an answer he never expected, a psychic who pulled a very specific name out of thin air, and a staycation that ended with two people fleeing a hotel room in the middle of the night. (This episode is formally known as "Real Ghost Stories For Walking the Dog On A Lonely Night - Mixtape Vol. 7")

Roc from Orange County returns with a story from his grandparents' motel in Pomona, where he witnessed a drive-by shooting outside a phone booth as a child. Nights later, at exactly 3 am, a man appeared at the window, visible to Rock, his grandmother, and eventually his grandfather before vanishing entirely. The activity became so persistent his grandmother finally had curtains made. Years later, kids playing near the same phone booth answered a call that shouldn't have been possible, hearing a staticky voice say "help me" before the line dropped, and the phone continued ringing at 5 pm and 10 pm like clockwork until the booth was eventually removed.

Jacob, who worked on a paranormal investigation show filmed in a historic Denver mansion, calls in about being alone on the third floor while striking equipment after a shoot. Pulling on a cable made a distinct shhh sound, and a delayed echo of the same sound answered from inside a cracked-open closet door behind him, repeating each time he tested it.

Dave calls in about Bobby, a family friend who died in a car accident decades ago and who Dave's skeptical brother swears he heard calling his name at work. Years of unexplained presence in the restaurant's storage attic culminated during a paranormal event when an unfamiliar psychic pulled the specific nickname Bobby, unprompted, and said he was doing fine and still watching over them.

And Artemis from Los Angeles closes the episode with a staycation at a private Bowery Hotel townhouse in New York City. What began as an unsettling atmosphere escalated through a bathtub turning on by itself, repeated sightings of someone just out of view on the stairwell, a window slamming shut on its own, and running footsteps in the hallway, until both Artemis and his ex fled the hotel entirely in the middle of the night. When Artemis called the next morning to apologize for disturbing another guest, staff confirmed no one else had been staying there. The building's history later revealed it had once been an orphanage, and the room itself was the site of a fatal overdose in the early 2000s.

Brittany calls in about waking from a nightmare and crawling toward her front door, only to find four translucent men pressed against the bay windows, tapping deliberately as if they knew she could see them, one trailing behind, pushing a bicycle. Her legs turned to lead as she crawled past them to reach the stairs, and when her family checked outside, there was no possible way anyone could have left the area unseen.

Jimmy, who's spent years working on paranormal television productions, calls in about a haunted Chicago tattoo shop where he went looking for tools in a pitch-black basement. Backing away from a coworker, he felt himself step directly onto someone's feet and get shoved from behind, despite being completely alone. A psychic later identified that exact stairwell as a heavily trafficked supernatural corridor.

Yamari returns with a story from a post-breakup hike with her mom and sister, where the sound of distant drumming followed them along the trail as darkness fell. Research that night revealed a local legend about a woman murdered on that mountain alongside her husband, said to still play the drums searching for him.

Michelle shares her own story from a road trip stop at a Best Western in Fresno, California, waking to find a man hovering inches from her face before he vanished instantly, and her boyfriend at the time admitting he'd seen the same thing moments earlier.

Leah from California calls in about waking at 3 or 4 am to find a man in Victorian or Edwardian dress sitting in her desk chair. When she waved her hand through him, he dissolved into the air like scattering dust, gone completely by the time she turned the light on.

Beth from rural Kentucky calls in about a baptism photographed on instant film in the early '80s, long before digital editing existed. Across a sequence of photos, an unusually tall, long-haired figure appears standing among the congregation, moves position between shots, and vanishes entirely by the final photo. No one who attended the baptism remembers seeing him.

Yamari from Lancaster, Pennsylvania calls in about a sixth-grade sleepover Ouija board session that spelled out "axe, killed, woman" after being mocked for inactivity, followed by every candle in the sealed basement extinguishing at once and a shadow figure appearing above an unlit fireplace, holding something raised overhead. In the second, years later, Yvonne felt three distinct finger flicks on her arm while alone in a room, the last one hard enough to hear and feel, followed by a dream in which her sister told her to look behind her, revealing Yvonne's own body beside a pool.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has three true ghost stories that cover three completely different kinds of contact between the living and the dead.

Christina is the host of Espooky Tales on the Scary FM Network, and she calls in with a true ghost story from her childhood in Oakland, California, that began as mockery and ended with a bruised tailbone and a lesson she has not forgotten. She was eleven years old. Her nine-year-old brother had always insisted he could see shadow people, and Christina and her twin were not taking him seriously. They were sitting in their father's trailer behind his car shop when her brother pointed out shadow people standing next to Christina, and she started fake punching the air where he was pointing. Her brother said they don't like it when you do that. The chair was pulled out from under her. All four legs had been solidly on the floor. She had not been leaning back. Something pulled it while she was sitting on it, and she fell hard. Her brother looked over and said see I told you. Their father's response when they ran to his office was that they should be more scared of the living than the dead. Christina was more concerned about her injured tailbone. Carla calls in with the shortest and most quietly devastating call in the early archive. She is living with the love of her life, who passed away in 2020. The love did not end. The presence did not leave. She has everything on film. She describes it as a gift that keeps on giving, and she means that without any irony. There is nothing more to say about Carla's story because Carla said everything that needed to be said in the time she took to say it. Some love stories do not end.

Nellie from Clinton, Illinois, returns with a true ghost story rooted in her Mexican grandmother's warnings about what happens when you sleep in the wrong position. Her grandmother called it el muerto, the dead getting on top of you. Nellie was eighteen years old, sleeping on her stomach on an ordinary weekday morning, when she felt something heavy climb onto her back. She opened her eyes and tried to look behind her. A dark shadow was there. It put its mouth near her ear and growled, a low sound that was half laugh and half something she cannot describe even now. She could not move. It lasted a few seconds, and then it was gone. Nellie grew up hearing her grandmother's warning and wondering if it was true. At eighteen, she found out. The experience of el muerto, a heavy presence pinning a sleeping person while a dark figure looms and growls, connects to sleep paralysis accounts documented across Latin American cultures for generations and shares remarkable similarities with the Old Hag phenomenon in European tradition, the Kanashibari in Japanese culture, and the shadow figure encounters reported across nearly every culture that has ever tried to explain what sits on people in the dark while they sleep.

Hey, it's Michelle, and this week's five calls include a doppelganger with a scorched face that vanished mid-laugh, a HomeGoods mansion with its own resident ghost, a weeping shadow no one could identify, a brother who wasn't home appearing at the foot of a bed, and a red balloon that burned to reveal an unexplainable coin. The episode was formally known as "Real Ghost Stories For Cleaning the House- Mix Tape 3"

Roc from Orange County calls in with a years-long haunting at his parents' house in Fontana, starting with roof noises everyone dismissed and escalating into a string of family losses and a series of pets that never survived long. The centerpiece of his story is an entity that appeared as his mother, sitting on the bed crying before its face was revealed scorched and its eyes turned white, cackling before vanishing entirely, while his actual mother was confirmed by phone to be at Costco the entire time. What followed was months of activity centered on his little sister, a Victorian-dressed child spirit named Sophia the family eventually traced to a local legend, handprints and footprints appearing on wet cement and windows, and a night the family found her hiding under the bed beside a dark figure. Multiple religious cleansings failed before sage finally worked.

Sleeping with her head covered as a habit, twelve-year-old Nelly heard a woman weeping directly beside her bed, distinct from her mother's voice, visible only as a dark shadow standing over her.

Yvonne from the Philippines returns with a story from her late teens, watching what appeared to be her brother slip into her room and duck at the foot of her bed in a familiar prank routine, only to vanish completely when she checked, with no possible hiding place beneath the bed. Her mother confirmed her brother had been out of the house since that afternoon.

And Edwin Covarrubias, host of True Scary Story and founder of ⁠Scary.fm⁠, closes the episode with childhood memories from his family's first house, starting with a dark blue, jacket-like shape floating in a bathroom corner, followed by a mysterious red balloon his father found and burned, revealing a rice-like texture and an unidentifiable old coin at its center. Hey, it's Michelle, and this early episode has three true ghost stories that are each stranger than the last.

Phil from Chattanooga, Tennessee, calls in with his fourth story for the show, and this one is rooted in one of the most disturbing real-life scandals in Georgia history. Phil picked up a young man home from the Marine Corps who told him what had happened the day before when he tried to take a shortcut through the woods behind his house to his grandmother's. He got deep into the trees and stopped. Something felt wrong. Shadow figures appeared behind him. Then in front of him. Then, when he turned a full circle, they were all the way around him. The woods in question were the grounds of the Tri-State Crematorium in Noble, Georgia, where owner Brent Marsh was discovered to have stored over three hundred bodies in a barn rather than cremating them. A neighbor's dog dug up a skull. The FBI, the TBI, and state and local law enforcement descended on the town. The pond was drained. The property was demolished. Nothing can be built there. The bodies that could be identified were taken to Atlanta. The ones that could not were not. Phil says you can fact-check it. He is right.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana, calls in with a true creature encounter from the 1980s that her family has never forgotten. One evening, the power went out across the house. The dogs ran from the room in fear. Her mother opened the living room drapes and found a six-foot creature covered in black hair standing at the sliding glass door, growling, snarling, and slapping the glass as if trying to break through. Her father identified it as a Dogman and ran to his bedroom for his silver coin chest. He presented it to the creature through the glass. It howled and ran into the darkness. Michelle's research confirmed that the Michigan Dogman has been reported by over a hundred witnesses since disc jockey Steve Cook recorded a song about the legend in 1987 as an April Fool's joke and began receiving calls from listeners who said they had seen exactly what he described.

Hendel from Long Island, New York, calls in with three nights at a hostel in Los Angeles that built from unsettling to impossible. On the second night, a girl in the bunk room laughed loudly for fifteen minutes, and when Hendel turned on her phone light discovered the girl's head was now at the opposite end of the bed from where the laughter had come, her body completely switched with no way to have done it silently. On the third night, Hendel woke at 1 AM to the entire room shaking violently for twenty seconds. Every bed. Every object in the room. The next morning, the hostel reception had no idea what she was talking about. There was no earthquake recorded in Los Angeles that night. No geological sensor registered anything. Hendel is willing to dismiss one incident. Two incidents on consecutive nights with no explanation is something else.

A ghost who did not know she was dead and had a message she needed the living to hear. Two ghost hunters who used a black mirror and brought something home without realizing it. A four-year-old girl in Queensland, Australia, who looked up and found a Tall Man standing in her doorway, and has been thinking about him ever since.

Cindy Ketron from Avon, Indiana, calls in with a true ghost story from a trip to Hollywood with her grandparents after graduating high school in 1977. Walking along the Pacific Ocean one evening, they were approached by a woman in a long white evening gown carrying white leather sandals who seemed lost and confused. Cindy and her grandmother were both psychic, and they recognized her immediately. It was Marilyn Monroe. She did not know who she was or where she was. When Cindy told her, she regained her composure and delivered her message. She did not commit suicide. Somebody else did it for her. Then she walked back down the beach with a man whose face they could not see and disappeared into the sunset, leaving a trail of footprints in the sand. Michelle's research confirmed that Marilyn Monroe's spirit has been reported across Los Angeles for decades, in her home, on the Santa Monica Pier, and in the ladies' rooms of hotels across Hollywood.

Adam from Decatur, Illinois, is a twenty-year paranormal investigator who always dismissed the question of whether something might follow him home from a haunted location until the summer of 2016. He and his friend Jake visited a house with a history of murder, suicide, a major fire, and construction on top of a Native American burial ground. They used a black mirror for scrying, experienced nothing unusual, and drove home in opposite directions, arriving back at roughly 1 AM. Adam got out of his car and was hit with an overwhelming feeling of absolute silence and the specific sensation of someone standing directly behind him. He turned around. Nobody was there. His phone rang immediately. It was Jake calling from his driveway six minutes away, asking if Adam was home and why it was so completely quiet outside. Two people. Two driveways. The same silence. The same presence. The same moment.
