As much as I love recording in Bali, it has it's challenges. It feels that nowhere is safe from the screeching sounds of an angle-grinder, loud motor bike, barking dog, or in this case a generator from a large truck pumping water. Half way into this episode there is some pretty significant background noise. I did my best to 'soften' it in editing, however, I've never been the best audio engineer...however, Augusto's words and messages are clear and easy to understand. An enjoyable episode, filmed and recorded on the roof-top terrace of Mana Restaurant in Uluwatu in Bali,  as a 6-8 foot swell unloaded across that mystical stretch of reef. Augusto and I check-in, talk breath-holding, managing stress under duress, his Peruvian roots, free-diving experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.

Oh man, I love Slippery Surfa. I never use the word "juxtaposition" however, it really is the best word to describe him. Surfer to his core, yet somewhat of a juxtaposition to the stereotypical surf culture norms of either:
a) being a laid back, soul surfing , spirit-animal
or
b) clean-living, mobility-training, paleo, breath-working enthusiast who is chasing the world tour dream.
He might be none, or all of those stereotypes, running alongside and refusing to be categorised. A familiar, yet colourful contrast.
Slippery raps about surfing, the activity he has done his whole life, and it is done with an urban street vibe...beachside. He grew up in the south-swell magnetic Sydney suburb of Cronulla, NSW, Australia; an area rich in slabs, whale migration, sharks, and crowds, crowds for days. And it seems like everyone who surfs around there rips too.  Only the white sharks survive apparently.
Maybe Slippery is a product of his environment? Maybe he is just a man who follows his heart? Either way, he is unique as fuck. Yes, he is easy to judge on the surface, however, a humble, kind, focused, man lies within and it is immediately obvious if you spend any significant amount of time with him.
Best surf rapper alive? Maybe. Rad human? Definitely.

This week, past guest, musician, singer, songwriter, founder of the docu-series Bent Planet, and long-time friend, Mr Athron joins me live and on location in Canggu, Bali. I don't say this often, but this might be one of the most profound, unique and poignant episodes I've recorded to date. There was magic in the air, on the largest full moon of the year and Athron taps into some deep memories from my childhood which catch me off-guard. Overall, he takes me on a journey through some of his psychedelic revelations, we discuss the importance of storytelling in society and culture, he gives us an update on life since finding his biological family and much more. Garrett Stratford-Cutler is a self-described alpha heterosexual (insert sarcasm here please), Wellbeing Teacher at an international private school in Bangkok Thailand, friend, and kind-soul.  I worked with Garrett at the Green School in Bali many years ago and needless to say, he was my kind of weird and we became good friends immediately.
