  • 29 A Sloppy Bucket Of Fourth Raters - Armageddon

Episode 29: A Sloppy Bucket of Fourth Raters - Armageddon (29th November 2020)

'The Podcast That Knows how to Build a Shelter, Avoid Fallout, Wrap Dead Loved Ones in Polythene, Bury Them, and Tag Their Bodies.'

    This episode:

The End is Nigh! An aghast Neil & Vince look back at the complete horrorshow of 2020, and in an effort to cheer themselves, they discuss the happier topics of nuclear annihilation, pandemics, and extinction event climate change.

Protect and Survive! Neil has his heart broken in a one-horse south western town, and Vince gets all excited about umlauts.  We cower in our Anderson Shelters as we hear the air attack four minute warning, and as we’re transported back to our local pub in 1984 we wonder why  Denim-clad young women went mad for poodle-haired pretty boy millionaire soft rock stars, instead of us.

  • 28 The Smell of Cordite Kazoos - Halloween Special 2020

Episode 28: The Smell of Cordite Kazoos - Halloween Special 2020 (25th October 2020)

‘The Podcast that warns you to beware the moon and keep t’ path.'

    HALLOWEEN SPECIAL!

As Jeremy busies himself in the lightning-lashed laboratory of his crumbling East European castle, stitching together a monster Bono out of body part of his U2 band mates, Vince and Neil are free to run around in silly spooky costumes (or in Neil’s case, his everyday wear), scaring the neighbourhood because they ain’t afraid of no ghosts (though they are irked by double negatives).

As nefarious Neil ‘Bonemaker’ Barrett fondly remembers the wilds of Devonshire, Sigourney Weaver glammed-up to the nines, and the smell of illegal fireworks in the autumnal night, and Vampiric Vince ‘Scarifier’ Stadon is haunted by Ray Parker Sr, the Hound of the Baskervilles, and beef and tomato flavour cupasoups, in this terrible, spooky, extra long Halloween show, the diabolical duo tackle the running order of the White Album; the Americanization and commensurate commercialisation of the pagan celebration of Halloween; and the moral and ethic considerations underlining the thematic meanings of, err, T’Pau.  But scariest of all, In Jeremy's absence they flail around in complete ignorance of facts, misremembering everything and generally bringing the Overrated Podcast to a new low.

The artists we discuss and rate on this show are Ray Parker Jr, T’Pau, Rockwell and Warren Zevon.  As always, The Beatles are our final topic of discussion.

  • 27 The Power of Don Corleone Compels You! - Film

Episode 27: The Power of Don Corleone Compels You! - Film (31st August 2020)

‘The Podcast, or El Podcasterino, that’s not into the whole brevity thing.'

As Jeremy takes his annual holiday to Summerisle, Vince and Neil stock-up on exorbitantly priced popcorn and drinks and sneak off to the movies to watch some old favourites.  Vince discusses the eee eee eee eees and tinkly tinkly tinkly tinkly tinks of late 70’s/early 80’s horror film synth scores, and reminisces about being tangentially involved in a pirate film smuggling operation from Amsterdam, and as Neil finds himself in the middle of a Dudester cult that drink White Russians and abstain from bowling on the Sabbath, he rhapsodizes over Michael Mann’s blue colour wash, and the music revolution ushered in by the Sony Walkman.

Then, both men try to rate Paul McCartney on an LSD Spectrometer, and take a juicy bite of Forbidden Fruit.

    The films we discuss:

Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid

    The Big Lebowski

    The Exorcist

    Manhunter

    Magical Mystery Tour

  • 26 George Clinton for President! - 1993

    Episode 26: George Clinton For President! - 1993 (7th June 2020)

'The  podcast with no no, no no no no, no no no no, no no with no limit.'

As our overrated time machine pitches up in 1993, Vince gets tetchy over grammatical accuracy and travels to the city limits in the name of Dr Who, alienating Meatloaf fans along the way.

Neil rewrites history and canvasses for p-funk in the White House while narrowly avoiding setting fire to Jason Kay’s hat.

Jeremy gets misty eyed (and soft hands) as he washes Massive Attack’s dirty dishes. We concur that 1993 will not feature on the next volume of ‘Vince’s Pissed Up Classics’, and Neil revokes Mr Blobby’s helicopter licence.

The artists we discuss and rate on this show are 4 Non Blondes, The Velvet Underground, Freak Power and World Party, with honourable mention of The Beatles amongst others.

  • 25 The Boon Ultimatum - Silver

Episode 25: The Boon Ultimatum - Silver (19th April 2020)

'The complicated podcast that no one understands but its woman.'

    This episode:

In this 25th edition of the show, we welcome ex pat and old school friend Neil to the team. Vince opens a fascinating window on his eating habits during lock down, Neil calls for clemency for U2, Jeremy changes his tune (and rating), and Vince gives faint praise.

Unlike the Trump administration, Neil presents the show with provable statistics and eschews the use of household disinfectant as a medical antidote. We discuss the benefits of adding his findings to the daily Covid briefing and Vince ponders a name change for Hawkwind.

Jeremy sings for his supper (and doesn't give up the day job), and Neil deems that all Jim Diamond memorabilia circa 1983 should be made obsolete.

The artists we discuss and rate on this show are U2, Hawkwind, The Rolling Stones, Jim Diamond with honourable mention of The Beatles amongst others.

This episode:  We aint wastin’ no more time

We walk down the only road we’ve ever known and ride the storm of the century all the way back to 1987, where Toxic Waste Mutant Villains are all the rage, and everybody wore espadrilles (even and especially the Toxic Waste Mutant Villains); We unearth Alexander O’Neal’s unreasonable backstage rider for any and all gigs played in Skegness; we haemorrhage (even more) listeners after we criticize Robin Williams’ friends, ideas and lifestyle; Jeremy invents an Aussie ‘Poodle Rock’ band called Ayres Rock, and nominates Van Halen (short-term) lead singer Sammy Hagar to become Bristol’s next Mayor; and Vince goes crown bowling with the cast of Dirty Dancing.

    This episode:

We stick it to The Man!

In our special Christmas Show - featuring no Christmas songs - we feed Hall and Oates to white tigers live on stage in LA (after Jeremy has insulted them); Vince prepares a “How to Bluff Your Way Through Bob Dylan” guide so that he can converse knowledgeably with his father-in-law over Christmas dinner; we unveil our new, controversial line-up of Christmas entertainment; and Jeremy drops more bombshells than the Luftwaffe.

    This episode:

We hold up two digits to our listeners as we play the numbers game!

We determine the standard distance pop stars are prepared to walk to see their lovers; Jeremy explains why he automatically rejects any emerging or rediscovered artists who are popular and acclaimed until he’s had plenty of time to think about it; Vince invents a giant-slaying football team for a nondescript rural west country village; and as we reinvent Martin Shaw as a vet who blows the lid on global conspiracies involving injured field mice, we take bogus physician Dr Hook to task for his shallow values and tedious paranoid behaviour.
