20 min - MURDERED: Michael Menson
This week we'll be talking about the terrible murder of Michael Menson.
In January 1997, a couple of weeks after Christmas, Michael had an appointment at Chase Farm Hospital to attend a “ward round”. This type of appointment was nothing out of the usual for Michael and he travelled to and from his appointment on a London bus, just like many times before.
In the early hours of the morning, Michael got off the bus in Edmonton, North London.
A short while after, an off duty firefighter was driving home along the North Circular road when he spotted a man, stumbling along the side of the road and on fire. This man was Michael Menson.
Michael was in a severe state of shock with third degree, full thickness burns to his back, buttocks and thighs. Two weeks after the incident, Michael died from his injuries.
Sophie tells us about the police investigation and the prejudice and racism that Michael and his family were up against.

Today boys and girls we are going to be talking about Dorothea Montalvo-Puente who was a sweet little 71 year old lady with a pixie cut of white hair and a big gummy grin who ran a boarding house at 1462 F Street Sacramento California in the 1980s. Picture a sweet lady of just 5ft 2” in height with big thick brimmed glasses, her big gummy smile and a pretty floral dress and holding a nice pink umbrella and you’re not going to be far wrong when it comes to how she looked.
Although it was a run-down part of Sacramento at the time the house on F Street was filled with Spanish music, love and laughter and Dorothea would take in residents who nobody wanted. She worked with the social security and placed the alcoholics, drug addicts, the destitute and the mentally troubled and she would take care of them in her own special way.Now has anyone heard of the address 1462 F Street before because it is quite famous. No?
Well, you might know it from wonderful tv programmes such as the home improvement programmes Murder House Flip OR the House is Innocent - Dorothea Puente Murder House Remodelling.
That is right boys and girls, Dorothea Puente, our sweet little old lady was a convicted serial killer who ran a boarding house in Sacramento CA in the 1980s. Dorothea would take in the waifs and strays of society, look after them and then poison them before burying them in her yard all the while carrying on cashing their social security cheques.
Dorothea herself was dubbed the death house lady and killed at least 9 victims and maybe as many as 15 and she buried 7 of them in her own back yard.

Graham Frederick Young was born in North London on Sept 7th 1947 and he was son to Fred and Margaret and younger brother to 8-year-old, Winnie. And young Graham’s formative years were eventful to say the least! He was only 3 months old when his mother died on Christmas Eve-Eve as result of spinal tuberculosis.

Shirley Hitchings escaped to Bognor Regis after being haunted by a mysterious being nicknamed "Donald" when she was just 15.
In what became one of Britain’s longest and most terrifying accounts of a haunting, Shirley and her family appeared to be plagued by the spirit.
Objects would fly around rooms, and fires broke out spontaneously. Mysterious messages were even left around their home in 63 Wycliffe Road, Battersea.
