Come back with us to the start of the year. Christmas had not long been, Santa had not long visited the TCS HQ and all of us were bestowed with comics goodies and ready to show them off and talk about them.

Now cast your mind back to the start of 2020. The Folks here at the pod went through their “Intention Fails” the comics in which they bought with reading being the number one priority, then it never happened. Well, we revisit those top 3 intention fails of ours and see how we got on. Did we manage to read them? Do we have more for the comic year? What are stuff do we waffle on about?

You’ll have to listen to find out. Here on…

[First off, We want to just apologise as somewhere in the recording there are some background sound issues. You get used to them pretty quickly, but just to make you aware.]

We are getting on the hot topic items here at TCS this time. We are talking “Environmental Messages” in comics and we have some absolute belters as well. We cover all aspects and ways in which creators have tackled this extremely important topic. Some serious, to the point, more informational and even fun. It really does show you though that the environment has been on creators minds for some time and how we should have always been taking this shit seriously.

Before we go deep on that though, we have a right good laugh. Get ready for some mad tangents in this one.

“GABBA GABBA HEY, CREEP!!”

This time is very exciting indeed.

Our Tom sat down to have a chat with the wonderful comics creator Derf Backderf! You will have heard us mention his titles many times before on the podcast, such as Punk Rock and Trailer Parks, My Friend Dahmer, Trashed & his newest entry, Kent State: Four Dead In Ohio

Covering everything such as Star Wars, the weather, touring/travel, music and of course comics. Derf was such a pleasure to speak to and hopefully we will speak to him again in the future.

In the mean time, don’t forget to check out all the places you can find Derf

“You can never have enough spunk!”

It’s all coming to an end. Well… The incredible web comic Sarararara is at least. We caught up with our pal (and recent Doctor) Olivia Hicks about wrapping up Sarararara, what it feels like, taking a closer look at some of the pages, themes, how it was produced and the future of, hopefully, a physical collection.

It was so good getting a chance to catch up and make sure everything was ok. We had such a great laugh and we even discussed more of Olivia’s recent comics work along with her new job as ‘Junior Graphic Novel Editor’ for ‘Rebellion’

What can we say, Olivia works F***ing hard.

Just to note that this was recorded just before Christmas 2020 so Olivia can now be found at @droliviahicks on twitter and Sarararara has now come to an end.

So if you haven’t read it yet then go check it out! Google Sarararara.

HO! HO! HO!

Get ready because not even distance can stop the TCS crew from having their Christmas party and catch up.

We delve into what we have been reading this year and what we would consider out favourites of 2020. There is also a bit of general chatter as always but we mainly stick to the comics this time surprisingly.

It’s been a funny old year and we even had a bit of a break near the tail end of it to recharge and bank some more episodes. We have had to adapt to the new way of doing the show but we have plowed on and continued to enjoy talking comics and having you all listen. So thank you. A very Merry Christmas to you all and a Happy New Year.

Cheers!

Hello! Hello! Welcome to another edition of That Comic Smell.

This time we take a look just outside the world of comics to find those writers, artists etc that have made comics but are very much known for other things. We find famous, authors, actors, chefs, scientists, wrestlers, musicians and many more, all dipped and continue to dip their toes into the wonderful world of comics.

We also must mention that there are some audio issues here and there throughout the episode but it doesn’t take away from the great chat that we had.

There are some huge names and some real surprises during this topic.

We also take a moment to praise our very own David for undertaking a tremendous task lately involving all the past comics titles we have discussed.

Just a nice short one today fro everybody. We do a spotlight on Dark Horse Comics. A company that has always been consistent In getting out comics. So much so that they often are forgotten. We delve into some of their back catalogue, a little on the not so pleasant side and discuss where we know them from mainly. All in all it’s great to focus on a publisher that isn’t the usual big two.
