  • S2 E31: The Watcher House

There is something really special about finding your "dream home". The moment you step inside you can quickly imagine your future inside it's rooms. The love that you will bring to the home, and potentially some of things you will change to truly make it yours.

If you've ever bought a home...you'll know - the home buying process can be a stressful time.
You can do everything you can on the front-end prior to moving in to make sure you're making the best decision...but, that doesn't always mean you've made the right choice. At some point things may begin to fall apart...

For the Broaddus family it happened pretty quickly after they purchased 657 Boulevard in Westfield, New Jersey in 2014.

It was only three days after their purchase when they received the first of what would become a series of strange, creepy, and terrifying anonymous letters in their mailbox from someone who called themselves "THE WATCHER".

First the letters just seemed weird. But, later they would make reference to the Broaddus children's names, details about items inside the house that were far too difficult to see w/o intention, and eventually threatening enough to get local police, private investigators, and even the FBI to look into them.

Join us this week as we explore the incredibly odd and off-putting TRUE story of THE WATCHER HOUSE.

Thank you so much for listening, don't forget to tell your friends to check us out, and as always... BE RAD!

  • S2 E30: Welcome Back Tyler

    The prodigal son returns!

This week we welcome back co-host Tyler Bence after a multi-week hiatus from the show because of the TOP SECRET project he has been working on.
We dive into the project as much as we can for now, that he's been working on with writer Jeff Lemire (Sweet Tooth, Moon Knight, Essex County, The Nobody).

Plus we catch each other up on what's been going on for the past month. Everything from what we've been reading and watching to approaching some of the episode topics we discussed while he was away.

Join us this week as Tyler defends the truth behind what his actual skills would be in a zombie apocalypse, his thoughts on the Churinga Stone, The Hand of Glory, and why having guests on a podcast can be so hard.

Everything feels back to normal now that the gang's all here. Thanks so much for listening and supporting our show - it truly means the world to us.
Don't forget to tell your friends to check us out, and as always... BE RAD!

  • S2 E29: The Hand of Glory

When you begin to dig into our very own human history - it turns out that the truth can ABSOLUTELY be radder than fiction!

This week we dive into the strange and the macabre as we explore an ancient item that was said to hold magical powers...
We discuss the bizarre origins, folklore, and fascinating story of THE HAND OF GLORY.
Back in medieval Europe, it turns out it was rather commonplace for people to get their hands lopped off for committing various crimes. Some of these obviously make sense (if these punishments are believed to be derived from the Code of Hammurabi) but, some of the reasons people were chopping off hands back then...well, let's just say 90% of our University bar population would have been in danger.

It's no wonder then, that at some point someone discovered a use for all these "extra appendages" laying about in pub window sills or fireplace mantles.

But, buried within this story AND this week's episode is an incredible connection to a case we discussed in a prior episode.
This was a completely unexpected discovery during the research for this episode.

You'd never guess that somehow we begin discussing The Hand of Glory - only to end up knee deep in espionage, the Tower of London, Nazi spies, and a murder mystery that we may have actually solved ON THIS SHOW.

  • S2 E28: The Churinga Stone

Can objects hold supernatural power? Can they perhaps be the focus of paranormal activity? We've talked about some interesting objects before on our show like the Dybbuk Box (S2 E5), that seemingly wreaked havoc on whomever had it in their possession.

But, in this week's episode - we tell you a story that honestly, is one of the craziest accounts that we've come across since we started this podcast.
We are going to dive into the realm of Australian Aboriginal lore. Today, we recount a first hand story of the incredibly rad and incredibly strange things that happened to a man who found something while on an early morning hike in the Blue Mountains.
This is a story about trusting your gut when you get that feeling that you should just leave things as they are...undisturbed...and as they were intended.
With our current level of technology, industry, and advancement it is easy for us human beings to arrogantly think we have it all figured out in 2022. It makes it easy for us to look upon ancient belief systems or ancient ways of life as "primitive" or "uncivilized".
But, there are ancient totems and artifacts that can (and will) prove otherwise.
Hopefully this story and this week's episode will serve as both a guide and a warning if you ever encounter something while exploring the wilderness, regardless of where you are in the world.
Thank you so much for listening, don't forget to tell your friends to check us out, and as always... BE RAD!

  • S2 E27: The Mysterious Mrs. Brown

This past week was spring break for us here in north Georgia where the That Would Be Rad headquarters is located.

So, Woody packed up his kids, turned off his phone and headed out for some cryptid hunting, comic book reading, and site seeing adventures with his family.

Tyler is inky knuckles deep in a top secret comic book project that has been commanding the majority of the 24 hours we have in a day - especially as the deadline for the project approaches. Although we CAN'T WAIT to tell you all about it - we can't...

To give the illustrating half of our duo all the extra time he needed - Woody decided to sweet-talk this week's special guest into joining him for cocktails and a conversation. A conversation that touches on nearly all aspects of what That Would Be Rad has come to be known for.

Join us this week and get to know THE MYSTERIOUS MRS. BROWN - as we talk about what skills Woody & Tyler will bring to a zombie (or zombie-free) apocalypse, the tragic truth about The Crow, quantum mechanics, and looking like a lunatic together in public.

Put your hands together, raise a glass, and welcome this week's special guest host Ann Brown.

  • S2 E26: Ask Us Anything

Ever since we started this podcast we have received questions, comments, ideas, theories from listeners via comments on our social media channels, direct messages, or emails.  Whether it's simply a message to thank us for what we do or, an expanded discussion on one of the topics we discussed previously on a show, topics you want us to cover in future episodes, or even just random questions - we are always grateful.

This week, we thought we'd dive into the mail bag and answer some of the questions listeners submitted so that everyone can ultimately get to know us better.
We talk about everything from what our favorite cryptid creature is, what the horror franchise we would easily survive, where to listen to all of our music, and even our updated/expanded ideas on the simulation theory.

Thank you so much for listening, don't forget to tell your friends to check us out, and as always... BE RAD!

  • S2 E25: Paul Amadeus Dienach - Chronicles from The Future
In 1924, Paul Amadeus Dienach a German language teacher living in Greece, became gravely ill.
He was dying of tuberculosis, and he wanted to return home, for one last time, to his country of origin Switzerland before he died.
But - before he left, he gave hundreds of pages of his own handwritten notes to his favorite language student Georgios Papachatzis.
Dienach thought translating his notes would help Papachatzis in his study of the German language. They said goodbye and never saw each other again.
Papachatzis began to translate the pages…as he did, he wasn’t sure if he was reading the greatest novel he’d ever laid his eyes on, or the rantings of a lunatic. There were whole passages about a coming nuclear war, colonizing Mars, and a global government. Sections about flying vehicles, holographic technology, devices that resembled things we use today on a daily basis (like an iPhone) and EVEN contact with alien life.
Papachatzis thought what he was reading had to be a science fiction novel.
But as more and more of the text was revealed, Papachatzis was shocked at what he discovered. This wasn't a novel at all.
This was actually Dienach's personal diary. Dienach wrote about how he went into a coma and woke up 2000 years in the future...in the year 3906.
Join us this week as we tell his story...a story so much more complex and intriguing than just "time travel"...a story that absolutely blew our minds.

  • S2 E24: The Batman

In all honesty, this week we had an entirely different show researched, planned, and ready. BUT, after heading to the movie theater to watch the brand new released THE BATMAN...we had to turn on our mics and talk about this film immediately.

Both of us being comic book fans/nerds since our youth, Tyler being a comic book artist, and both of us being GIANT-SIZED fans of Batman we knew we couldn't wait until this movie was "streaming" at home.
We really had to see if Robert Pattinson could pull it off...

If you haven't seen THE BATMAN yet then please don't listen to this episode until you do - we discuss all aspects of the movie...what we liked, what we didn't like, and spoiler-filled plot points. CONSIDER THIS YOUR SPOILER-WARNING FROM THAT WOULD BE RAD.

You'll have to listen to this week's episode to hear what our final verdict of the movie was but - no matter what we can certainly tell you now.

Don't wait to watch this movie at home when it's streaming. Spring for the IMAX ticket, see it on a BIG screen, with excellent loud sound. The cinematography, soundtrack, and sound design deserve the best venue.

  • S2 E22: Max Headroom & The Mystery Soda Machine

It was Sunday night November 22, 1987 during a typical Chicago Bears highlights show when suddenly the broadcast signal was disrupted...the screen went black...and then a strange figure appeared on viewers television screens.

There was hardly any sound, but the image was still frightening. The figure bobbed around in front of a spinning background as a buzzing noise played. Dressed in a rubber mask and wearing sunglasses, the mysterious intruder looked like TV character Max Headroom.
The screen scrambled and the broadcast signal returned - leaving a stunned Dan Roan looking dumfounded on screen.
But this was just the beginning...

Meanwhile on the other side of the United States - a mysterious soda machine began to baffle Seattle residents. Although initially it looked much like most soda machines, it had a single button that simply read "mystery".

Thirsty customers who were brave enough to press the "mystery" button were both surprised and delighted at the resulting rare flavors of soda that dropped down.
Over time every button of the machine turned into "mystery" buttons...all of them dispensing sodas unavailable or not sold in the US market.
Despite its ever growing popularity - no one has ever seen who stocks the machine...and then a few years ago it disappeared completely.
A note was left in it's place that read "went for a walk...need to find myself".

Join us this week as we talk about 2 of our favorite pre-internet mysteries - both from an era that we all love so much.

Thank you so much for listening, don't forget to tell your friends to check us out, and as always... BE RAD!
